The Venice Film Festival will honor Australian director and screenwriter Peter Weir (Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show, Master and Commander) with its Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 81st edition, running Aug. 28 to Sept 7.
The decision was made by the board of la Biennale di Venezia, based on a proposal made by festival director Alberto Barbera.
“The Venice Film Festival and its Golden Lion are part of the folklore of our craft,” said Weir. “To be singled out as a recipient for a lifetime’s work as a director is a considerable honor.”
Said Barbera: “With a total of only 13 movies directed over the course of 40 years, Peter Weir has secured a place in the firmament of the great directors of modern cinema. At the end of the 1970s, he made a name for himself as the main man behind the rebirth of Australian film thanks to two movies,...

Cobra Commander #2 teases the early introduction of an Energon Universe of a powerful character – though which one remains to be determined. The Commander's powerful, bulletproof bodyguard could possibly be classic Joe antagonist Nemesis Enforcer, or perhaps even Cobra-La ruler Serpentor, with the uncertainty adding another mystery to the Energon Universe era of G.I. Several years back, Pedro Pascal and Bruce Campbell starred in the same film, and it is a fun, humor-laced jaunt through the jungles of Colombia inspired by the popular spy series Burn Notice. Released in 2011, Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe is a movie-length iteration of the Jeffrey Donovan-led show whose pulpy approach to intercontinental espionage is greatly enlivened by a keen sense of humor and the ever-sardonic Bruce Campbell in the lead as the wily Navy Seal Axe. 'Commander' actually. Pascal had a number of guest parts on popular TV shows to his name circa the release of the film, and his significant supporting part here serves as a prime indicator of the powerful screen presence he would consistently put to use in major productions years later.

As a long term fan of Magic: The Gathering, I have loved seeing the new “Universes Beyond” series that Wizards of the Coast has been promoting lately. With incredible IP’s like Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who and Warhammer 40,000 being introduced in casual formats, players who have never shown an interest in Magic: The Gathering before are suddenly much more keen to see what the hobby is all about.
One of the best ways to enjoy Magic: The Gathering (Mtg) is via a format like Commander which is a two to four player game that usually favours three or four players, and which lends itself to a very casual group rather than a more serious tournament format. Because it is casual, Commander games allow players to choose from wide varieties of cards that span years and even decades since the Mtg product line first launched. Specifically in relation...

Destiny’s Child is one of the biggest, most influential R&b-pop girl groups of all time.
The legendary troupe first debuted in the late ‘90s, delivering hits like “No, No, No,” “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name” that sent them skyrocketing to superstardom in the music industry.

Skybound Entertainment's new G.I. Joe titles are inspired by Jonathan Hickman's successful X-Men reboot, which has shaped Marvel's mutants. The new Duke and Cobra Commander miniseries will tell one big story, while being designed to be read independently or together. The Energon Universe's G.I. Carl Davis, who composed the scores for The French Lieutenant’s Woman, the BBC miniseries Pride and Prejudice and perhaps most famously Abel Gance’s epic 1927 silent film Napoléon, has died. He was 86.
Davis died Thursday after suffering a brain hemorrhage, his family announced.
“We are so proud that Carl’s legacy will be his astonishing impact on music,” they wrote on Twitter. “A consummate all-round musician, he was the driving force behind the reinvention of the silent movie for this generation, and he wrote scores for some of the most-loved and remembered British television dramas.”
Born in Brooklyn but living in the U.K. since 1961, Davis was hired by documentarians Kevin Brownlow and David Gill to create music for the 13-hour 1980 miniseries Hollywood: A Celebration of the American Silent Film and for Napoléon.

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 8 - "Surrender."Star Trek: Picard season 3 is yet to feature Kestra Troi-Riker (Lulu Wilson), the daughter of Captain William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis). Kestra debuted in the Picard season 1 episode "Nepenthe," a precocious and whip smart young girl who spends her time hunting bunnycorns and chatting with old starship captains. Her connection to the young android Soji (Isa Briones) is one of the episode's highlights.
As Star Trek: Picard season 3 begins, Riker is surprisingly estranged from his family, as his grief over the death of his son Thad had begun to overwhelm him, and even began affecting the empathic Troi. Riker and Troi were both captured by Captain Vadic (Amanda Plummer) and they seemed to largely reconcile their issues while sharing a prison cell aboard the Shrike. However, it's still not made immediately clear where Kestra is.

At 15, 65 star Ariana Greenblatt is already an old pro.
She’s had a varied and prolific career as a child performer, and she’s especially well-versed in the art of acting opposite CG characters, whether that’s Josh Brolin’s Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, Sam Rockwell’s gorilla in The One and Only Ivan or the titular monsters in Love and Monsters. In her latest film, 65, from A Quiet Place writers Beck and Woods, Greenblatt plays Koa, the only other survivor of Commander Mills’ (Adam Driver) interstellar expedition that somehow crash lands on Earth during the prehistoric era of dinosaurs.
So Greenblatt’s ability to nail looks of awe and wonderment, as well as sheer terror, came in quite handy when asked to look at a stick and imagine it’s a T-Rex.

The main cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation is back for Star Trek: Picard season 3, but there are several recurring Tng characters that could, and should, still appear. Starring Clone Force 99, a group of mutant clones, Star Wars: The Bad Batch is effectively a spiritual successor to The Clone Wars. It is set during the Dark Times of the Empire's reign, when the dark side of the Force was dominant and the light of the Jedi seemed all but extinguished. It's unknown how many Jedi survived Order 66, but those few who did were most certainly not safe; Darth Vader and his Inquisitors scoured the galaxy looking for them, killing any Jedi they could find.
