Since its end in 1997, "Married... with Children" has maintained a legacy as one of the strangest and longest-running television shows of its kind. The Fox sitcom was, on its face, a standard multi-camera sitcom about a dysfunctional family and the colorfully zany characters that breezed in and out of their suburban enclosure. At the same time, it bucked contemporary genre conventions, daring to push the boundaries of acceptable behavior for sitcom protagonists while leaning into the surrealist subgenre -- which, relative to the tamer landscape of TV back in the late '80s and '90s, surely must've surprised some audiences.
And yet, as odd and abrasive as the show could be, the series was reliably anchored by a powerhouse cast of comedic actors at the top of their game. This included Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, and Christina Applegate, all three of whom have been receptive to revive the series...

There are filmmakers who start big and get bigger, their project mushrooming ever larger as new ideas, characters and scenes enter their landscape.
Then there’s Tim Fehlbaum.
The Swiss writer-director — he previously made two indie sci-fi films — started really big. He was going to capture from every angle that fateful day of Sept. 5, 1972, when eight terrorists from the Palestinian militant group Black September infiltrated Munich’s Olympic Village and attacked Israeli athletes, killing two and taking nine hostage. (All would end up dying.)
Police officers, Olympians, journalists, civilians, government diplomats — Fehlbaum and his co-writers Moritz Binder and Alex David would cut between them all, creating a Rashomon for the Olympic era. The seismic event — a brazen act of evil on the world’s biggest stage — demanded a big cinematic treatment. Fehlbaum would give it nothing less.
But then a little voice called financial reality piped up. “We had a...

I first remember 9-1-1's Peter Krause appearing on my television screen when I was about 10. Sports Night, where Krause portrayed sports reporter Casey McCall opposite Josh Charles's Dan Rydell, first aired at 9:30/8:30c on Tuesday, September 22, 1998, and shows like Home Improvement, Spin City, The Hughleys, Dharma and Greg, and NYPD Blue rounded out ABC's Tuesday night line-up. While NBC was a tough competitor -- Will & Grace was so popular so quickly that NBC ran reruns of the brand new comedy on Tuesday nights -- Sports Night held its own for two seasons and then went on to become a bit of a cult classic, or maybe a hidden gem, if one really wants to get particular.

There are few character types on television whom it would seem quite as exhausting to be as the only guy who knows how to get things done on a Taylor Sheridan show. From Kevin Costner on Yellowstone to Jeremy Renner on Mayor of Kingstown — and now Billy Bob Thornton on Sheridan’s new drama Landman — these men are perpetually running from one crisis to the next, all of them someone else’s fault, no one else seemingly having the first clue how to solve them.

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 12, Episode 7 of “The Masked Singer,” “Who Are You Fest Night,” which aired November 13 on Fox.
It may have been a wipeout, but surfer Bethany Hamilton told Variety that she still enjoyed her brief appearance on “The Masked Singer.” Hamilton was the latest celebrity to be unmasked, revealed to be the star under the Macaron costume as the show’s Group C competition got underway on Wednesday’s episode.
“I wanted to originally do ‘The Masked Singer’ just because I thought it would be fun,” Hamilton said. “I sing to my children every day and thought maybe I’d get better at singing. And it’s also an opportunity to encourage people, and that’s what my life is all about.”
Among the show’s panelists, Rita Ora got it right, naming Bethany Hamilton — and Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg agreed. Ken Jeong though it was Gypsy Rose Blanchard.

The following contains light spoilers for Frasier Season 2, now streaming on Paramount+.
I don't like sitcoms -- because most of them don't make me laugh. Their jokes aren't funny, their characters are too broadly drawn, their stories are predictable and I find laugh tracks to be both annoying and vaguely insulting. The only sitcoms I've loved in the last few decades are Sports Night (which wasn't a traditional sitcom), a Bravo series called Significant Others (that was almost totally improv), NewsRadio and Wings.
The folks who created Wings -- the late David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee -- also created Frasier. And roughly 20 years after the last episode, the Frasier revival on Paramount+ is something of a unicorn. It retains the coziness and structure of a traditional half-hour comedy, but it isn't beholden to the format. It has a wonderful depth of character and storylines that justifies doing a revival in the first place.

The Masked Singer season 12 Group B has three exceptional singers left who will compete in the Group B finals on '60s Night, and, because they're all so talented, I'm convinced that the panelists will ring the Ding Dong Keep It On Bell at the end of the episode, and there won't be a double elimination. Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 12, Episode 3 of “The Masked Singer,” “Soundtrack of My Life Night,” which aired October 9 on Fox.
I don’t want to wait, for “Masked Singer” to be over/ I want to know right now, who will it be?
You’re in luck, Dawson. Revealed on Wednesday night’s edition of “The Masked Singer” were two eliminated celebrities: Singer Paula Cole, whose hits include “I Don’t Want to Wait” (used famously as the theme song for “Dawson’s Creek”), as well as “Black-ish” star Marsai Martin.
Cole was revealed to be the star under the Ship costume, while Martin was singing under the guise of the Woodpecker.
Panelist Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg figured out the Ship was Paula Cole. Ken Jeong though it was Alanis Morissette. Robin Thicke named Amy Lee from Evanescence. Rita Ora said it was Sarah McLachlan.
“I did not know about the show,” Cole told Variety.

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 12, Episode 2 of “The Masked Singer,” “Footloose Night” which aired October 2 on Fox.
Wednesday night’s “The Masked Singer” reveal was an emotional one for “Community” star Yvette Nicole Brown, who was unmasked as Showbird on episode 2 of Season 12. As Brown was taping the episode she was also dealing with some personal matters involving the care of her father.
“Some of it felt heavy because I’m singing, but I’m thinking, ‘is daddy Ok,’” she told Variety. “But by the time I was revealed, I was able to kind of let that all out. Plus I got to surprise Ken, and it was everything that I hoped it would be!”
That’s “Ken” as in “The Masked Singer” panelist Ken Jeong, Brown’s “Community” co-star who of course guessed her right. Among the other panelists, Robin Thicke agreed with Jeong, while Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg thought it was Taraji P. Henson.

“The Masked Singer” returned to kick off season 12 on Wednesday night, and ironically enough “kick off” is a pretty good metaphor for the first contestant that was eliminated.
The night began with a special appearance by season 8 contestant William Shatner, who sang under the knight mask during his stint on the show. On Wednesday though, he was just himself, taking the stage to introduce a performance by panelist Rita Ora, returning for her second season.
From there, things proceeded as usual, with the first group of contestants taking the stage for their own performances. In the end though, it was Leaf Sheep that saw an early elimination, and under the mask was… John Elway, formerly of the Denver Broncos.
See? Kick off, kickoff…we told you! Sure, Elway was a quarterback, rather than a kicker, but it still counts. And with that, season 12 of “The Masked Singer” is officially underway.

The acclaimed screenwriter, Aaron Sorkin, apologized for HBO's 3-season drama, The Newsroom. The Newsroom chronicles what happens behind the scenes of a fictional cable news channel called the Atlantis Cables News. The HBO original series covered events from recent history that news channels were reporting. Given that the series used real-life events as its source material, it's no surprise that it was highly controversial and was heavily criticized.
Aaron Sorkin has worked on several projects, including The West Wing, The Social Network, and Sports Night. The Newsroom isn't considered Sorkin's best work, seeing as it wasn't popular with critics and the writer himself. Although the award-winning writer has expressed grievances with his work on the show, that doesn't necessarily mean that the political drama doesnt have redeeming qualities.

The following contains spoilers for Frasier Season 2, Episode 1, "Ham," debuting Thursday, Sept. 19 on Paramount+.
When Paramount+ announced the Frasier revival, it was a big surprise -- and a big challenge to dive back into Frasier Crane's classic sitcom world. Frasier Season 2 feels like a love letter to that traditional sitcom model, while displaying the growth that TV viewers expect from a second go-around. Kelsey Grammer is still the unquestioned star of the show, but the other characters are beginning to find their groove.
Season 2, Episode 1, "Ham," has everything that fans think of when they consider popular sitcoms. That can be both good and not so great, depending on the scene, but it's clear that the creative team knows and loves the genre. It takes an unexpected and ridiculous premise and gets every inch it can out of it, while finding a way to give Frasier's son Freddy some real development.

On Sept. 5, 1972, millions watched a tense international hostage situation unfold live on ABC television, as members of a militant Palestinian faction calling itself Black September infiltrated the Olympic Village in Munich and held the Israeli team hostage. In “September 5,” we watch the sports crew of an American TV network step up to the challenge of covering such a monumental event. For better or worse, their decisions made history, as the incident fed on media attention, and ABC became the first network to broadcast an act of terrorism on live TV.

Some '90s sitcoms, like Townies, struggled to differentiate themselves from more popular shows, leading to their cancelation. Shows like Hangin' With Mr. Cooper and Two Guys and a Girl had unique elements but still faced cancelation due to low ratings. The affection for many '90s sitcoms persisted into the subsequent decades, but a few series have been neglected. The Og 9-1-1 continues to dominate ratings and the conversation.
After moving to ABC, the veteran drama returned to form with an action-packed opener and engaging and thought-provoking character-driven hours throughout the season.
9-1-1 has always been known for its emergencies, but the heart of the series has always been with its incredibly diverse cast of characters.
The star-studded ensemble has (mostly) stayed intact throughout the series run, which is almost unheard of in today's TV landscape.
As 9-1-1 Season 8 gets ready to premiere in the fall of 2024, we're looking at the dynamic cast that brings the stories to life and the complex and captivating characters they play.

Colleagues and friends gathered today at the Motion Picture & Television Fund to celebrate the life of venerable Deadline labor reporter David Robb who died in December at age 74.
There were many stories, “Dave-isms” and great impersonations of the gravelly-voiced journalist in speeches from people who had worked with him or spent countless Friday poker nights together.
Robb’s passion for poker was front and center at the event, put together by Robb’s widow Kelly Robb, where the round tables were decorated as poker tables. They also were adorned with books from David Robb’s personal library for attendees to take home.
One of the “Dave-ism” coined at the Friday poker nights was literally called “The Dave,” which the gang called the nine in a deck of cards, with the hearts one called “The Dave of Love.

Darren Dutchyshen, the longtime television sports anchor with Canada’s The Sports Network, has died. He was 57 years of age.
“He passed as he was surrounded by his closest loved ones. His sharp wit remained until his final moments, classically delivering plenty of jokes — most of them pretty good and all of them inappropriate,” the Dutchyshen family said in a statement on Thursday.
Tsn, where Dutchyshen had been host of its Sportscentre show since 1995, did not give an immediate word on the cause or place of death for the popular sportscaster. But Dutchyshen first announced he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2021 on X, formerly Twitter. That forced him to sharply reduce his on-air duties at Tsn.
“Darren Dutchyshen was a legend of Canadian sports broadcasting, a great teammate and an essential part of Tsn for the last three decades,” Stewart Johnston, senior vp, sales & sports at Bell Media,...
