My sister rented this at Hollywood Video, and I really enjoyed this film. It's very low budget, but the actors are great, the characters are lively and colorful, and it's well written. Don't be turned off by the box art - this is a good film to watch if you love movies.
Those of you who remember The Young Riders will be quite excited by this Travis Fine film, especially if you get the DVD which contains an introduction by him as well as a full length commentary track. (OK, I admit that's why I bought it.) Low-budget or not, it's like watching another great 80's teen movie, which was the general idea in the first place. Plot themes: Would-be rock star in band has serious crush on most popular girl in school and is shy about making a move. Changes also take place when an eccentric artist is pursued by a seemingly normal guy with artistic tastes very similar to hers. And then there are also the guys who just have no clue what they want to do.
Go ahead! Watch it! Don't judge it by it's exterior artwork. It's much better than that!

Now this isn't a groundbreaking film. No cinematic wonders were created. But when its over it leaves you smiling. Its the classic "It'S the of our high school years...what are we going to do with our lives" movie. This one centers on the kids who weren't the jocks but who weren't the geeks...the OTHERS if you will. It bolsters some strong performances and some genuinely touching and funny moments. It makes good use of its independent roots and reminds that "independent" doesn't have to be pretentious or hard to understand. Simple...straighforward...and enjoyable.

A charming little film, with quality actors (Rhys is superb) and very impressive dialogue. Perfect film for a quiet night in. Nothing outstanding, but very sweet and funny at times. The comedy element is a bit underused in the film, but it is clear that all the actors and the director have a lot going for them. Worth a look, if only in order to support quality independent filmmaking!
