Dune 2000

This is a remake of a Dune game made a long ago. This now has FMVs to give you mission briefs and further the story. Controls are a lot better too. Since this is from Westwood it uses the C&C engine which is great.

I'm a huge fan of strategy games and Dune 2000 is no exception. I love the fact that you have to create concrete so you can build your buildings without the worry of getting damage by the sand and wind. It may not seem like much but it adds to the strategy and gives it kind of a unique feel to it. Also beware of the Sandworms. If you ain't paying attention your harvester will become a snack and before you know it, you are out of funds. The Sandworms like the concrete, add more strategy and uniqueness to the game.

The only problem I do have with Dune 2000 is that all the basic units like the trike and the tank all look the same with only minor changes in the stats. Sure there are some unique units like the Freeman and the Mammoth Tank. But it wasn't enough for me. Nevertheless, it is a good little game.

Look. It's not the books. And there is a bit of monotony in some of the cutscenes for the factions. Despite this, i did like the Ordos storyline, again not being true to the books. I'd happily watch this again.

I am currently playing it for PlayStation. Heck of a good game and solid storyline. It even has Gimley from Lord Of The Rings. Fascinated with every Mission. Very Difficult though. Hard to get all the way through without cheating. I rate it second to Command and Conquer Red Alert. Solid 8. P.S. it is a long campaign as there are 3 sides so if you are interested in playing it i'd Set aside a good month.

This game's cutscenes set the tone of what is quintessentially and magnificently Frank Herbert's Dune. The 80s film set the stage for an interpretation of the books and the likes of this game and the latest film installment carry that legacy.

The cast, script and direction are extraordinary for what is essentially a PC game that not many would have played. If you're a fan of the books, I strongly recommend playing this. I particularly like the addition of the insidious and devious Ordos house, who balance the noble Atreides and evil Harlingen houses well. The game plays out very much like a sci fi fantasy film. Highly recommended.

This is like Dune 2, 2.0! It's a real time strategy game which expands on the original Dune 2. The graphics are better and this time there are live action video clips and a more compelling storyline. The writing and acting are top notch. The music is very much Dune-esque. The game is rather immersive and definitely worth revisiting, even 25 years on. Frankly I'm still surprised that this game was made so long ago. The cinematic experience is very memorable. I like the addition of the Ordos faction into the Dune gaming universe - while not true to the books, they are a very compelling middle faction that help stir the spice pot!
