        Distinctly underwhelming

CRACK SHADOW BOXERS is an example of the kind of work that Shaw Brothers star Ku Feng did when he was moonlighting outside of his better-known studio fare. Here he's playing one of a couple of good guy beggars who travel the villages peddling their cheap medicine and performing kung fu. Soon enough they meet up with a gang of bandits and the story goes from there. While this film does feature a wealth of fight action, much of it is unremarkable, passable at best. There's a predominance of goofy humour of the lame slapstick variety, and even Feng himself indulges in this. A few familiar faces in the cast don't add up to a distinctly underwhelming experience.

        Hilarious!!

This is the funniest, martial arts movie, you will ever see. Please don't hesitate to watch this movie, it is awesome. really!the action is non-stop and the laughs keep coming. great acting, Awesome martial arts action, great storyline. A very watchable movie. Very enjoyable. Follow the adventures of two unlikely heroes as they constantly find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. I would describe this film as an oriental version of Laurel and Hardy. Very entertaining for fans of martial arts films as well as comedy fans, not a movie to be missed. A very unique film I have never seen another film like it. I highly recommend it to anyone.

        A breezy kung fu yarn.

Over in the U. S., you had your comedy westerns, in Italy, many of the spaghetti westerns were touched with comedy, so when kung-fu movies became a dime a dozen, and Bruce Lee clones, Jackie Chan cheese clones, and drunken beggar So clones became passé, the kung-fu genre needed a break every once in a while, and so the Shaw Brothers gave us breezy, unforced humor (unlike Jackie Chan's cliché forced humor, not all serious and outrageous acrobatics, and with a tidy little story to boot. It's nice to see a kung-fu classic where the whole introduction isn't choreographed nonsense and the whole story is about, isn't my kung-fu is stronger or better than yours, isn't an ending where the good guy is in mid kick or mid punch delivering the death blow to the bad guy, etc. Yes, this movie has your standard stock actors you see in hundreds of other kung-fu movies of the time. There are some truly memorable people in this film who make it that much more enjoyable. For reference, think of a low budget version of James Garner's Support Your Local Sheriff, just kung-fu and a little breezier. Almost a little every western where a nobody or a couple of nobodies come into town and save the town from the bully lecherous group. And these two heroes are some of the least unlikely. I'd rather watch this than another Disney/Star Wars/Marvel/Pixar clone/remake movie.
