Before Ben Affleck reasserted his franchise credentials with The Accountant and its follow-up, the recently released The Accountant 2, he'd previously made an attempt to appeal to the dads of America with The Sum of All Fears. Affleck played the popular CIA analyst Jack Ryan in the movie, based on Tom Clancy's book of the same name. It was Affleck's only time playing the character, who'd go on to be rebooted twice again. The Sum of All Fears debuted recently on Netflix, and immediately made a dent on the viewership charts.
According to FlixPatrol, The Sum of All Fearswas the seventh-most-watched title worldwide on Netflix on June 23, earning a total of 193 points. It has accumulated a total of over 500 points so far this month. Directed by Phil Alden Robinson, The Sum of All Fears was produced on a reported budget of $68 million and released back in 2002. As geopolitical tensions rise across the globe, Netflix viewers are turning to a Tom Clancy political thriller. The Sum of All Fears, the 2002 adaptation of Clancy's 1991 novel about a terrorist attack on American soil, has risen to #10 on the Netflix streaming charts. The film features Ben Affleck as the third big-screen portrayer of Clancy's analyst-turned-action man, Jack Ryan. Ryan had already been featured in three films: in the first, The Hunt for Red October, he was played by Alec Baldwin, while in the subsequent two films, Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger, he was portrayed by Harrison Ford.
Although all three films were solid box-office hits, the series was rebooted to feature a younger leading man in the form of Affleck; likewise, the book's plotline was altered to make the grizzled veteran Ryan into a wet-behind-the-ears rookie, confronted with an unimaginable crisis on his first week on the job as a CIA analyst.

This year, viewers can enter the world of Tom Clancy in a way they never have before. The first-ever animated series based on the late military thriller writer's work, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, is coming to Netflix. While updating the rest of their animation slate, the streamer has announced that the series will premiere this fall. The series is based on Ubisoft's Splinter Cell video game franchise, which began in 2002 and centers around Fourth Echelon, a fictitious black-ops division of the National Security Agency. Led by Sam Fisher, Fourth Echelon is an elite strike team that emphasizes stealth above all else.
The original Splinter Cell game is considered one of the greatest video games of all time, and has been followed by a number of sequels and tie-in novels. A film adaptation was in the works for many years: Tom Hardy was cast as Fisher, while Doug Liman was attached to direct,...

Michael B. Jordan took on a role in the Tom Clancy movieWithout Remorse that has mostly gone overlooked, but according to a former Navy Seal, it includes some very realistic fighting scenes. Clancy is best known for writing the Jack Ryan books that ended up being made into movies, starting with The Hunt for Red October. The Jordan movie, Without Remorse, exists in that world.
Without Remorse follows the Jack Ryan supporting character John Kelly (also known as John Clark). In previous movies, Willem Dafoe (Clear and Present Danger) and Liev Schreiber (The Sum of All Fears) portrayed the character, a black ops soldier who will get his hands dirty, so Jack Ryan doesn't have to. However, the Without Remorse novel is mostly an origin story for the character, as he seeks revenge for his wife's murder.

Ben Affleck & Jon Bernthal's $101 Million Action Movie Becomes Streaming Hit Shortly After Its Debut
Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal's action movie, which made over $101 million at the box office, becomes a streaming hit shortly after its debut. After his Oscar win for Good Will Hunting in 1997, Affleck established himself as an action star during the late 1990s and early 2000s with roles in Armageddon, Reindeer Games, Pearl Harbor, and The Sum of All Fears. Affleck further established his action persona with his role as Batman in the Dceu moviesBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.
Bernthal, on the other hand, also has an equally established action persona due to his superhero role as The Punisher, debuting in the second season of Daredevil in 2016, starring in spin-off series The Punisher from 2017 to 2019, and recently reprising the role in 2025 for the MCU series Daredevil: Born Again. John Krasinski, who portrayed the titular CIA analyst in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, has teased the forthcoming feature film and explained how it differs from the hit TV series, which aired on Prime Video from 2018 to 2023, and ran for four seasons. The movie was confirmed to be in production in February, with Krasinski reprising his lead role, but aside from one image to mark the beginning of filming, the project is quite elusive. Thankfully, the franchise's main star has now provided some insight into what fans can expect from the spin-off.
Krasinski is the latest actor to bring Jack Ryan to the big screen, following previous interpretations by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Clear and Present Danger), Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears), and Chris Pine (Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit), but he admits that it's "a whole different ballgame" to shooting the series. Having completed two full weeks of release, Amazon MGM’s The Accountant 2 is on track to hit the coveted $100 million mark at the global box office. The action sequel passed an important milestone domestically, but it still trails its predecessor, The Accountant. Also directed by Gavin O’Connor and starring Ben Affleck, The Accountant was released nearly a decade ago by Warner Bros. It emerged as a surprise box office hit and developed an even bigger fanbase on streaming and transactional platforms.
The first film’s success on home video is probably what prompted a sequel. Affleck certainly needs a more grown-up franchise at this stage in his career, after having tried and failed twice in the superhero genre. He also played the fan-favorite Jack Ryan in The Sum of All Fears in 2002. In the last few years, Affleck has mainly starred in streaming releases. The handful of theatrical movies...

The summer of 2002 kicked off a whole new era in spy movies, but not in the way Hollywood expected. You see, three spy movies were coming out that year, and only one of them was predicted to be a hit. They were the Ben Affleck Jack Ryan flick, The Sum of All Fears, his pal Matt Damon’s The Bourne Identity, and Vin Diesel’s XXX. In fact, all three of them made money, but The Bourne Identity, a notoriously delayed and troubled production at the time, became a classic. The movie everyone expected to be a hit, XXX, did fine, making $142 million, which was a tidy sum. Still, given that it was expected to be the biggest hit of the summer, Hollywood insiders considered the film a disappointment. The end of the film promised that Xander Cage would return, but the time XXX: State of the Union hit theaters three years later,...

Ben Affleck says that Field of Dreams star Kevin Costner was just "being kind" when he said he remembered him and Matt Damon on set. The two young actors were extras in the sports film's Fenway Park scene.
In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Affleck responded to Costner talking about the impression he and Damon made while on set. "Kevin is being kind saying he remembers us because we were not memorable," Affleck said with a laugh, adding: "It's sweet of him to say that, but I’m pretty sure he remembers the actors with lines." Previously on Jimmy Kimmel, Costner recalled Affleck and Damon as being 'on fire' while working on Field of Dreams in the late 80s.
Affleck also shared a story of a time when Costner impressed him and Damon while they were filming. "I remember we thought we knew that actors were kind of fraudulent.

Plot: After his friend is killed while trying to track down a missing woman, Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) attempts to solve the murder. When the trail leads to the dangerous world of human trafficking, he’s forced to contact his deadly, estranged brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal) for help.
Review: It’s taken nine whole years, but here we are with a long-awaited sequel to The Accountant. For my money, the first film ranks as Ben Affleck’s best-action vehicle. While his superhero roles and other stabs at franchises, such as his turn as Jack Ryan in The Sum of All Fears, never panned out, The Accountant was a different story. The role of Christian Wolff seemed tailor-made for him. In the first movie, Wolff, who worked as a forensic accountant for the mob, was revealed to be something of a do-gooder, using the information he learned from jobs to help...

Ben Affleck remains one of the most recognizable actors working in Hollywood. Some of his most notable early movies include Dazed and Confused (1993), Chasing Amy (1997), and Good Will Hunting (1997), the last of which won him and Matt Damon a Best Screenplay Oscar. With the release of Michael Bay's Armageddon in 1998, though, Affleck became more than just a talented actor – he became a movie star.
Following Armageddon, Affleck played the lead in Pearl Harbor (2001) before playing iconic Tom Clancy hero Jack Ryan in The Sum of All Fears (2002). That led to the infamous Daredevil in 2003, which was not well-received, but Affleck remained a compelling leading man, appearing in hits like The Town (2010), Argo (2012), and Gone Girl (2014). He even went on to earn praise for his performance as Batman in several Dcu movies. Not long after his debut as the iconic Caped Crusader, though, Affleck appeared in an action thriller that...

A critical movie in the Jack Ryan franchise, The Sum of All Fears, is now available on Paramount+. It's a must-watch before John Krasinski's new Jack Ryan film arrives.
Ben Affleck stars as a younger Jack Ryan in The Sum of All Fears. The film was a reboot of the franchise, based on Tom Clancy's 1991 novel of the same name. Affleck took over the lead role from Harrison Ford, who previously played Jack Ryan in 1992's Patriot Games and 1994's Clear and Present Danger. Morgan Freeman starred alongside Affleck as Dci William Cabot.

In the first few years of the millennium, studios were finally getting hip to the fact that superhero movies, done in a comic-accurate way, could be big at the box office. Bryan Singer’s X-Men opened the door, but it was Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man that made the genre a no-brainer. One studio that was eager to get in on the comic book movie action was 20th Century Fox, which produced X-Men. They managed to get the rights to one of Marvel’s most enduring superheroes, Daredevil, producing a film that was solid, if unspectacular, when it came out on Valentine’s Day in 2003. The movie marked Ben Affleck’s first outing as a superhero and proved divisive among fans. Some say it’s underrated, while others say it’s dated garbage. Who’s right? Let’s find out Wtf Happened to Daredevil.

Paramount's Jack Ryan reboot movie, The Sum of All Fears, is climbing the Netflix charts and currently sits at number four. The film was meant to relaunch the Ryanverse with a younger cast, and featured Ben Affleck as the famous CIA analyst. The cast was stacked, with Morgan Freeman as Dci William Cabot, James Cromwell as President Fowler, Phillip Baker Hall as Defense Secretary Becker, and Liev Schrieber as fan-favorite John Clark.
Phil Alden Robinson (The Field of Dreams) directed The Sum of All Fears, and it opened on May 31, 2002, not long after 9/11. The film follows Ryan as he tries to stop nuclear war from breaking out between the United States and Russia, following a nuclear bomb going off in Baltimore. The villains are re-worked into Austrian neo-Nazis who want war to happen so they can create a new fascist state in Europe.

Few things are as arbitrary and unpredictable as the titles that reign over Netflix's weekly streaming charts. It certainly makes sense for new films or shows to climb up the popularity ladder, but oftentimes, titles of a dubious variety make it to Netflix's Top 10 list. Recent examples include the painfully mediocre Dylan Sprouse-starrer "Aftermath," or the barely interesting Cameron Diaz action comedy, "Back In Action." Then there are those that make a sudden resurgence on Netflix for no discernible reason. Such is the case with the 2002 spy thriller "The Sum of All Fears," which is currently sitting at #8 on this week's Top 10 Netflix movies list (via FlixPatrol).

Happy Friday! Welcome to another rundown of what’s new on Netflix over the past seven days. It’s been a relatively quiet week for new arrivals, but there were definitely a few hidden gems. Plus, Netflix cleared the Original deck for its highly anticipated Robert De Niro limited series, Zero Day. Here’s a look back at everything new and what’s been trending in the Netflix Top 10 this past week.
We should also discuss a couple of re-additions and very quick removals on Netflix this week. Interestingly, Trump: An American Dream was abruptly removed from the service yesterday globally, and after only a day, it’s back, albeit without Netflix Original branding. I have no idea what happened here. It wasn’t scheduled to be removed and from first glance, nothing has changed with it – bizarre. Also, One Piece fans can rest easy; the two specials...

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan star John Krasinski has shared an image of himself as the titular character in the upcoming movie. While the Amazon Prime Video show ended in 2023, last fall it was announced that the streamer, Krasinski, and the show's producers were moving ahead with a film. And the movie is already in production in Dubai, according to Krasinski's Instagram post.
The image sees Krasinski as Ryan dressed in black while holding a rifle, standing with the city behind him. The actor wrote:
"So. Good. To be. Back! #JackRyanMovie is off and running!!! Huge thank you to all the inCREDible folks here in Dubai for letting us kickoff in epic fashion in your beautiful city! Here we go!!"

Over the years, Hollywood has delivered an abundance of memorable on-screen partnerships -- Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, among many others. Over 30 years after their first collaboration, it's probably safe to add Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to the list.
Together, the dynamic duo have produced memorable entertainment aplenty, putting their remarkable chemistry to good use in everything from Kevin Smith's "Dogma" to Affleck's "Air." These guys have teamed up on nearly a dozen projects, even for a brief cameo or minor supporting role. Recently, their partnership has intensified with the aforementioned "Air" and Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel," it's a shame they haven't found more films to work on together over the years, because these boys are wicked smaht.

Over several decades, the character, Jack Ryan, has become one of the most famous spies in American fiction. Drawn from Tom Clancy's political thriller novels, Ryan has now appeared in five movies and a TV series, and has been portrayed by five different actors across more than three decades. While his more recent stories have focused on modern threats like terrorism, one of his best movies was set during the Cold War and explored the dangers of nuclear conflict. It may not get as much attention today, but The Hunt for Red October is still a classic film and a great introduction for Jack Ryan.
Released in 1990, the movie centered around the defection of a Soviet naval captain and his attempt to steal a nuclear submarine. The crisis that this event sparks soon brings the United States and the Soviet Union to the brink of war and forces Jack...

Since 1990's "The Hunt for Red October," Tom Clancy has been a frequent pick for adaptation on film and television. The late author's signature brand of technical espionage and cat-and-mouse geopolitics lent itself naturally to the big screen, and the success of "Red October" spawned a whole Clancy franchise.
As is often the case, though, the quality of these adaptations has wavered over the years, with some absolute highs and equally notable lows. This is especially true of the movies and series centering Jack Ryan, Clancy's frequent protagonist. The vast majority of Clancy screen adaptations have involved Jack Ryan, with five different actors playing him in major projects since Alec Baldwin first donned the CIA analyst's mantle in 1990. But how do these different versions stack up against each other? And which is definitively the best?

Studios and networks proceed very carefully when it comes to selecting a release or premiere date for movies and television shows. Obviously, there are some no-brainers: when Marvel comes hurtling into the marketplace with a mega-tentpole like "Avengers: Endgame," you know it's targeting the outset of the summer movie season. But when it comes to a less star-studded effort like, say, "Captain America: Brave New World," it might lock in on a less spectacle-laden time frame like February or March, where there won't be such fierce competition for screens. Meanwhile, with television in the age of miniseries and short season orders, networks and streamers can now use the whole calendar year instead of going heavy in the fall.
It's all a matter of timing. And sometimes all the strategizing in the world can be rendered irrelevant when an unpredictable global event knocks the world off its axis. When the attacks...

As if Splinter Cell fans weren't already in a depressed state, there's one more tough pill to swallow. For those of you longing for a Sam Fisher-fix, keep dreaming. Basil Iwanyk, a producer who's been connected to the live-action adaption for the better part of a decade, has put to rest any hopes of a film. Affixed with the influential Tom Clancy branding, and luring Oscar-nominated writer Sheldon Turner and director Doug Liman (of The Bourne Identity fame) aboard, the Splinter Cell film seemed destined for release in short order.
Back about 10 years ago, then-director Liman eagerly outlined what sounded like the starting point for a wider series, the first film fleshing out the backstory of Fisher and presumably how he met his handler and straight man, Irving Lambert. The Nsa's top-secret trouble-shooter, Sam Fisher, was originally voiced by veteran action-film character actor Michael Ironside. To adapt that character to screen,...

Quick Links Who Is Jack Ryan, Explained Why The Cardinal of the Kremlin Should Be Adapted Next
In late October 2024, news broke that Amazon MGM Studios is developing a new Jack Ryan movie with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media. John Krasinski is set to reprise his role from the studio's hit TV series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, with Wendell Pierce slated to return as former CIA leader James Geer. Although plot details are under wraps, the writers and producers would be wise to adapt Clancy's fourth novel, The Cardinal of the Kremlin.
Published in 1988, The Cardinal of the Kremlin is a direct sequel to Clancy's acclaimed debut novel The Hunt for Red October, which John McTiernan adapted to critical acclaim in 1990. A film adaptation was planned in the mid-'90s with Harrison Ford attached to play Jack Ryan for a fourth time, but it was considered too difficult to film.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan's titular character has gone through a lot, and the next step of his journey is to become president. Amazon MGM just announced a new Jack Ryan movie is in development, opening the door for Jack to end up on the country's biggest podium. Jack is not a politician by the end of the show, but he has good political relationships and makes a name for himself as a hero across the globe.
I've watched Jack Ryan grow over the last four seasons from CIA analyst to globe-trotting secret agent. He has proven himself time and time again, taking down drug cartels and going up against terrorists and dictators, even putting an end to political corruption in other countries. As a former soldier himself, Jack Ryan is the perfect person to be in charge of the country's Armed Forces in the show's universe.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is being adapted into another feature film, this time as a continuation of the Prime Video series. Oh, and John Krasinski’s back as Jack.
Actor turned filmmaker John Krasinski is, according to a new report, set to reprise the role of Jack Ryan for a feature film at Prime Video. It’s a part he first began to play for the streaming platform in 2018, with the thriller series being one of the most successful attempts to adapt Tom Clancy’s novels.
Despite Krasinski’s growing reputation as a filmmaker (see A Quiet Place and If), Prime Video has, Deadline says, managed to lure him back for a movie continuation of that earlier series.

John Krasinski's time as Jack Ryan might be over on the small screen, but it looks like he will reprise his role on the big screen in an upcoming feature film. Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, often just referred to as Jack Ryan, premiered on Prime Video in August 2018 and featured John Krasinski as the title character, a former U.S. Marine officer and Afghanistan war veteran working as a financial analyst for the CIA. The series is based on Tom Clancy's popular book series and featured characters from across the Ryanverse, as fans call it. Jack Ryan ran for four seasons and concluded in July 2023, and was consistently one of Prime Video's best-performing series.
It appears that the Jack Ryan story isn't done yet. Deadline reported that Krasinski is set to reprise his Jack Ryan role in an upcoming feature film for Amazon MGM Studios, where he will also serve as executive producer.

Tom Clancy movies have been a great success in adapting the work of the popular American author, but the best order in which to watch them can be a little confusing. Clancy wrote plenty of stories throughout his extensive career, and while theyre not all connected to each other, some of his characters and stories cross over throughout different series, so it can be beneficial to follow the movies in similar fashion. Clancys works have also been adapted into several TV series, video games, and even comic books.
The authors most famous character is Jack Ryan, a former U.S. Marine and stockbroker who later joins the CIA and leads some hugely important international missions. On streaming, the Jack Ryan TV series ran for four seasons with John Krasinski in the titular role. However, in the several movie adaptations of Tom Clancys works, there have been a handful of actors who have portrayed Jack Ryan.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan has had an unusual history on screen. Alec Baldwin was the first actor to suit up as the CIA analyst, playing him in 1990's spectacular submarine thriller "The Hunt for Red October. That film would have theoretically served as the first of many Baldwin-as-Jack-Ryan films, but the actor was overshadowed by Sean Connery in that movie, and negotiations with Paramount Pictures for Baldwin to return in a sequel got so testy that the studio ultimately replaced him with Harrison Ford in 1992's "Patriot Games." For those who have never seen "Patriot Games," it's the type of movie where a guy sternly says "get me hostage rescue at Quantico, now!" into a phone. We're talking top-tier 1990s Dad Cinema, here.
In the summer of 1988, two years before "The Hunt for Red October" hit screens, Paramount had paid a reported $450,000 for the rights to author Tom Clancy...

Tom Clancy's first Jack Ryan novel was "The Hunt for Red October," a 1984 thriller about a Russian submarine and the CIA Agent, Ryan, who has to assure the U.S. military brass that it might have a friendly Russian defector on board. Jack Ryan worked for the CIA, was a former Marine, and had previously been both a stockbroker and a history professor. He wasn't so much an action hero as a nerdy guy in a suit who could engage in action should the situation call for it. In Clancy's books, Jack Ryan would eventually become president. The Jack Ryan novels became seminal airport reading for a generation, and Clancy authored or co-authored 14 of them before his death in 2013. After Clancy's death, other authors perpetuated the character, and even expanded the series to be about Ryan's son, Jack, Jr. All told, there are 36 novels in the Ryanverse, with...

It’s Cape Fear meets ‘The Burbs in director John Schlesinger’s Pacific Heights. Although you might be fooled by Hanz Zimmer’s score, which sounds a lot more like you’re watching Sexy Beetlejuice than a ’90s thriller. This is pure irony, of course, considering the film stars Beetlejuice himself, Michael Keaton, as a conman who is six feet from the edge and thinking maybe doing murder isn’t so far down.
For those of you arguing silently in your heads that Pacific Heights is not a horror movie, let me go ahead and agree with you. It’s a pure thriller. But imagine this for a moment; imagine somewhere out there is a fresh-off Batman Michael Keaton, sitting in a dark room twirling both a razor blade and a large cockroach through his fingers like some sort of emo fidget spinner, plotting you and your significant other’s demise.
