A Little Bit Too Far Fetched...

What if you knew what a Dog was really saying and thinking? Maybe it could earn you millions as it does in this film. A neat plot, with a good way to portray it. The acting is a little stiff by everyone, except Kirk Cameron and Noble in the film. They were MUCH too good actors/actress' to get a role in this silly film. I must say that Kirk Cameron did a wonderful role in this film, and acted his part perfect. He also knew how to act a Dog, which isn't easy. For some people, this movie may be a little Far Fetched, but all together, it is a good, funny, entertaining movie, with Kirk Cameron as a great actor! Don't bark up the wrong tree, just sit back and watch a good fun movie with all.

    A great bit of fun

I came across this movie completely unintentionally one Sunday afternoon last month, while flipping channels, and saw Cameron on his hands and knees, panting and growling with a manic look in his eye. It threw me, and after I got over the initial cringe of watching a grown man act like an excited dog, I settled in and had a fun hour. He actually does a passable job of "channeling" a dog, and I can definitely imagine his kids giggling and laughing at the sight of him...which is worth the possible indignities. :) There was one scene, in particular, that I was hooting at, however. At one point, the lawyer that Noble (his real-life wife), is playing, rubs the dog's stomach while the man is "channeling" the animal. Cameron's reaction is priceless; it's not just the dog reacting, it's the man, too. Had a great time. It's not deep, and it's rather silly, but it's a lot of fun.

    One Weird Dog Movie

Even before Disney Channel became a lot more of a laughing stock when it comes to movies, it used to be a simple collection of kids films. And for this as a debut, it is pretty weird. But honestly, not in a good way. You Lucky Dog has debuted Disney Channel Original Movies in a confusing and uncomfortable start. At first, I thought it would just be a your typical dog movie. But it was actually more than that, just a series of craziness whenever John acts like a dog apparently when Lucky gets excited. Which would make the jokes at best, a hit and miss. And it would affect how when I say confusing, I'm talking about the story. The actors have shown they were having fun with this film, but the characters are pretty childish. And the editing shows this belongs as straight to television quality. But it is rather harmless and couldn't really be angry with this because it is something kids will love. But if you want to see what a Disney Channel movie debut is, then I guess I won't stop you. Even if Lucky is worth millions, I'd rather spend time with normal dogs instead.

    Enjoyable movie

Cameron does a great job in this TV movie. It is so hilarious to see a grown man acting like a dog. When you think about it, it can kind of make you laugh before you even see the movie. It has some great acting, and so this makes it an enjoyable movie to watch.

    Talk about chewing the scenery

You Lucky Dog is the film where Kirk Cameron chews the scenery, literally. Something actors love to do in the figurative sense. Is this why he accepted this Disney film.

Cameron plays a dog therapist because as a kid he could read the mind of a canine. But he grew out of it and then began just faking it to pay the rent. One fine day he gets a rich man Hansford Rowe as a client who dies thereafter. Because he liked Cameron and his dog Lucky liked Cameron he left his estate to the dog with Cameron as his guardian with Chelsea Noble as the lawyer for the estate.

But he also has three worthless relatives who were cut out of the will, John DeLancie, Taylor Negron, and Christine Cavanaugh. They also have a lawyer whom jokes are made about in Granville Van Deusen.

Cameron has bonded with Lucky so well that not only does he read his mind, but when he gets excited Cameron starts reverting to the canine himself. It's that behavior that Van Deusen is hoping to get the will overturned in a trial right out of Mister Deeds Goes To Town. You know how that went.

You Lucky Dog gets over the top in many places, but it's still a decent enough film. I wonder why Kirk Cameron didn't continue with the Disney studio?
