Its Tough Being A Trooper On Tatooine.

Its not easy patrolling hostile Tatooine territory & laying done the law but someones got to do it! This fly on the wall documentary follows a group of Stormtroopers on patrol & their encounters with scum & villainy. Welcome to Troops!

This is probably the most well known of all the many Star Wars 'fan-films' & deservedly so as it is a highly entertaining spoof of Cops & the innumerable reality police shows clogging up our telly schedules. These guys are just ordinary Joes doing their job, & what a job! Jawas dealing in stolen droids, domestic disputes between moisture farmers & their wives are all in a days work for these hard working representatives of the Empire.

Unlike some fan-films this has a real high-budget feel to it helped by the authentic costumes, decent acting, locations & familiar fly-on-the-wall filming technique. Of course, this is a must for Star Wars fans with revelations about certain events in A New Hope. However, those not familiar with the films may still find this an enjoyable mickey-take of real life cop shows.

Complaints? It isn't long enough! After ten all to quick minutes your going to be hungry for more real-life adventures of those misunderstood & underappreciated galactic law-enforcers the Troops!

    A masterpiece of spoof

This film is so cleverly funny it's hard to explain. You could quite easily fit this into Star Wars IV A New Hope as it explains a couple of things within the film, including who really killed Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru. It also has the thumbs up from George Lucas. If you are a true Star Wars fan you must download this film at all costs. Every Star Wars fan MUST own a copy of this movie!!!!!!

    Hilarious parody

Troops is an awesome parody of Cops and Star Wars. I downloaded it off the Internet and, though it took very long to download, it was worth it. Troops fills in the holes of Episode IV, by explaining what really happened to the Jawas, Uncle Owen and Luke's Aunt. It's also hilarious to see the stolen droid is none other than MST3K's Tom Servo. This is a must see.

Funny even if the second half is noticeably weaker than the first

Captain Jyanix Bach joined the Imperial Guard when he saw the news and liked the direction that the Empire was taking. Stationed on patrol on Tatooine he spends his time mainly breaking up fights and looking into minor crimes. This episode of Troops follows him and his unit on several calls; as ever the identities of the "innocent" parties are digitally concealed.

Everyone knows this film, even if they haven't seen it – it sounds like a really good idea for a really funny short film. Indeed for the first half that is what it is – it puts normal life into the extraordinary galaxy of Star Wars. The whole Jawa thing is pretty funny and had me laughing regularly. The second half of the film though is much more about connecting to the Star Wars story and it is this focus that makes the second half less funny, although it is still amusing enough to do for the few minutes it is on. It is all still a good idea though and fans will love it because it is a good spoof, just don't expect it to be as hilarious as you have heard it is.

Overall, a good fan film that is funny enough to support the short running time. It may not be as clever as it would like to be but is amusing and, for a good-looking film made by fans and available for free, it is worth seeing.

Couldn't believe how good it was!

When I first saw it I couldn't believe this was done by an "amateur crew". You can actually believe it could be some lost footage of the original Star Wars film. Lucas should give these guys a job doing the new sequels. Excellent, hilarious and great fun for everybody. Can't wait for the sequel.

    • Trivia
George Lucas, upon seeing the film, was so impressed he declared that the movie was really "lost footage from Star Wars". He would later hire writer Steven Melching to be one of the head writers of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) and writer/director Kevin Rubio would also co-write one episode of the series. Rubio would also created the humorous parody Star Wars comic series Tag and Bink, about two screwups who stumble their way through the events of the saga, which proved so popular among fans that the duo were originally going to appear in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) but their scene did not make the final cut.

Capt. Bach's name is misspelled as "Bauch" in the end credits.
    • Quotes

Captain Jyanix Bach: I joined the Empire about six years ago. I remember as a kid, you know, watching the holographic images and being excited about the new direction that the galaxy was taking. So, when I was old enough, I went down to the local recruitment center, you know, and signed up. And I've been here at Tattooine ever since. Most people would call this the ass end of space, but I like the small town feeling you get around here. I mean, we know everybody. Everybody. And I feel like I really make a difference here.
