Director Eddie Rodriguez alias Elmo Smith kept the pace moving with this Cop vs Drug Dealers, with an Island invasion, film. The two leading men (Romano Kristoff) as Detective Nick Carpenter and (Jimmy Bridges) as Detective Pete Logan, who has a likable propensity for Meowing, have a bit of chemistry even with the dubbing. Our Detectives are out to break up a drug ring and rescue Nick's girlfriend Stella (Ingrid Erlandson) who was good albeit in a small role. The high body count, fast pace, and decent dialog, for a Z film, makes this one a must watch for Z or even B action fans. Tough Cop's could have been better with a few more lady's in the cast as it is all men all the time and yes it's noticeable especial when Detective Pete decides to Meow. Z movie stalwart (Mike Monty) enjoys strong dubbing as the irascible Chief Caruso, and Kenneth Peerless as the creepy villain Fatcat thrashes about while screaming at his army all the time looking like a poor man's George Carlin. There are a lot of fun references to the pop culture of the time with Detective Pete's attire straight out of Miami Heat and even a small omage to Raiders Of The Lost Arc.
