Why does everyone like this movie so much?

I love Tenchi Muyo, don't get me wrong. It's one of my favorite Anime/Manga series, something I enjoy. However, Manatsu no Eve was a very giant disappointment, especially in comparison to its predecessor, Tenchi Muyo: In Love. The only saving grace for this Anime were a couple of scenes and some tracks on the soundtrack. Mayuka has potential. They threw in Mihoshi and Kiyone for seemingly no reason, however, and they turned Tenchi into a complete jerk. The plot was rather shallow, and Yuzuha, the 'villian' was laughable. I don't know what to say... I'm very disappointed.

A fast paced, emotional romp.

The story is basically that of Yuzuha, a demon, trying to abduct Tenchi, a prince, in revenge for past events. To do this, Yuzuha creates Mayuka genetically from a bit of Tenchi's hair and from her own hair. The arrival of Mayuka, who immediately calls Tenchi "Daddy!", causes a whole chain of events that are lots of fun to watch.

The reason for Yuzuha seeking revenge is told in flashbacks. Although an attempt is made to make Yuzuha appear evil, she actually comes across at times as rather cute, when not grimacing.

Yet Another Tenchi Girl...with a twist.

The girl in question is Tenchi's self-proclaimed daughter, which of course sets all of the other females in a tizzy. A sweet, touching story about the power of love, and also contains quite a bit of character interaction that you might miss if you don't pay attention. Both versions are pretty decent, but purists would definitely want to go for the sub.

A complex mixture of emotions

Mixture of dark and light is the theme; pain mixes with pleasure, hope with fear, love with hate, innocence with evil. The usually upbeat Tenchi series takes a turn into dark, forbidden areas with this movie. Supporting it is a perfectly matching soundtrack.

Manatsu no Eve only fails in its shortness. At an hour's length, it moves too fast and misses opportunities for deeper development. Much like the Tenchi Muyo series as a whole, it falls just short of its tremendous potential.

a good title

this is my second favorite of the three. at first, it was kind of hard to understand what was going on, i mean, with the little demon. i knew about mayuka and all, but that little goblin girl kinda threw me off. anyway, the animation is good as always, the character development is as good as the first movie, and the story is interesting, throwing some more aspects of yosho's past. overall, manatsu no eve is a good tenchi movie to see (hell, its better than the third one!).

Even though this is the second Tenchi Muyo movie it is not considered canon to the OVAs, Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, or the other two Tenchi films by most of the fans. Naoko Hasegawa, one of the writers of the 1st OVA, is the only person involved with the making of Tenchi to consider this film canon. She consider it canon to the 1st OVA and the Mihoshi Speical.

Crazy credits
During the credits, we see everyone watching Washu re-creating Mayuka, the rebirth of Mayuka, and Washu holding baby Mayuka in her arms. And as she promised in the movie, Sasami and everyone celebrated Christmas with Mayuka.
