Most experts would agree that porno films are sexist by definition (perhaps a handful of exceptions exist, maybe the work of feminists like Candida Royalle), but THE PONY GIRLS hit me as certainly misogynistic. And it was apparently directed by a woman (who was into bondage cinema),. Maybe I'm too particular (or the one angry viewer who still cares about such niceties).
Story takes place on a horse ranch, where the owners are pretty full of themselves, especially in their attitudes toward women. Dave, a wrangler, declares "Cowboys always work in teams", as he defends the local preference for gang-banging (in the original meaning of the term, not the re-definition in the Hip Hop era).
Film gets underway with a half-clad blonde sexily grooming a donkey. Filmmaker Katrina Lee does not go the bestiality or even teasing-bestiality route, though I'm sure she was aware of the suggestiveness of the barnyard setting for sex.
With cowboys riding around in a corral, the footage almost suggests we're watching a real movie, but it soon devolves into porn. Billy gets injured, and the aforementioned Candida Royalle (then an actress, not yet directing her own projects) claims to be a former nurse and heals him with a blow job.
Meanwhile the girl with the donkey is joined by a sexpot for some lesbian action, aided by handy dildos stocked in the barn for just such an occasion. A pretty young girl (who reminded me of Sue Peters) shows up in short shorts (de rigeur dress for equestrians in this film) for a $10 riding lesson, and gets humped by her instructor, thereby earning a $5 discount (yuck, yuck).
A busty Black girl Tina arrives and wants to buy a $5,000 horse, with sex as a bargaining chip. She has to service both ranch partners, resulting in an overflow of cum. A young girl gets a horse from Joey Silvera, and when she doesn't return he goes looking for her. He finds her sunbathing (pretty nipples exposed) and humps her at a sort of picnic. An owner arrives and takes over from Joey, shooting another huge load of cum.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, a guy helps Candida groom a white horse, and they hump on its back for a bit of novelty. An Oriental gal and a cowboy have sex in a horse van driving away, as Dave Dudley's hit "Six Days on the Road" plays. This is the point at which owner Dave (he of the Peter North money shots) demands his turn at the Oriental girl.
The mainly unknown female cast and sex scenes are satisfying but the film's overall tone is off-kilter, probably on purpose. I suspect that making enough junkers like this one convinced Candida to take charge and make her own erotic films. As far as my sexism charge against Ms. Lee the director, just remember that in her major films the trail-blazing director Lina Wertmuller cast Giancarlo Giannini as the sympathetic protagonist for the audience to identify with, and Mariangela Melato as the villain you love to hate.
