Featured review
This is the last short or feature Inspector Willoughby. Does he go off with a bang? Well, no but neither does he go off with a car crash. To begin with, animation is defiantly not as good as the previous shorts, but still perfectly Serbia be. Les Klines's animation is especially of noticeably better quality here than in other shorts from this period. The background for the setting, with colors that fit India. Additionally, I don't feel that this is racially insensible, since Willoughby is helping to find an elephant for a Raja, so that checks out. Anyways, the cartoon itself has some decent moments of intellect and some funny moments, like the scene with the elephant feet. Though, Willoughby's seems oddly more stupid here than on previous shorts. The thief is fine in the context of the situation, though he could've just as easily stolen some crops and it little would've changed. The highlight of this short is the whole Indian rope trick. It's surprisingly is amusing and makes for a great end to the cartoon. All in all, while not as bad as the "Maltese Chicken", it's still not a great short. Sad to see this is how the great master of mystery ends his series off. At least we got some solid shorts, including the great "Hyde and Sneak".
