The Indigenous Cinema Alliance (Ica) heads to the Berlinale and European Film Market with a bolstered lineup this February as it celebrates 10 years of promoting Indigenous film and television.

Three works by Indigenous directors – Wrong Husband, White Ochre and Akababuru: Expression of Astonishment – are playing in the Berlinale’s Generation sidebar, while Wilfred Buck’s Star Stories, an immersive experience with Ininew astronomer Wilfred Buck will have a special presentation in Forum Expanded.

There will also be market screenings for Māori-language historical drama Ka Whawhai Tonu – Struggle Without End; Manitoba-set comedy-drama Lucky Strikes, and episodes of drama A Sámi Wedding.

The alliance, formerly known as the NATIVe Indigenous Cinema Stand, has officially partnered with the EFM since 2015.

Here's the backstory behind Criminal Minds serial killer Cat Adams, played by Aubrey Plaza. CBS historically has good luck when it comes to producing hit procedurals, from CSI to NCIS and their many, many spinoffs. One of their most popular arrived in 2005 with Criminal Minds, which follows an elite team of FBI profilers who hunt down vicious serial killers.

Most episodes saw the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) having to deal with a new killer (or killers) with unique motives or methods, including the nightmarish likes of Tim Curry's "Prince of Darkness" or C. Thomas Howell's George Foyet, Aka "The Reaper." However, among all the Criminal Minds guest stars, one of the most well known remains Aubrey Plaza. Plaza's character, Cat Adams, is one of the most popular UnSubs to have appeared on the show - especially since she was the intellectual rival of fan-favorite Bau agent Spencer Reid.

Once again employing the blended style of live-action and stop-motion he defines as “meta-scope,” writer-director Eddie Alcazar returned to Sundance Film Festival this year with the premiere of his sci-fi thriller, Divinity. Starring Stephen Dorff, the black and white film is set in an uncanny world where humans have become hooked on a serum called Divinity, a creation set in motion by the ambitious scientist, Sterling Pierce (Scott Bakula), who devoted his life to unlocking the secrets of immortality. Dorff, who plays Sterling's son Jaxxon, has forged a career in Hollywood since the mid-80s, appearing in genres across the board, from blockbusters like 1998's Blade (pre-mcu era), to the lesser-known gems like Entropy.

Brooklynn Prince also stars in the film, which is currently in post.

Wyatt Rockefeller’s UK sci-fi Settlers has acquired distribution in key territories through sales agent Film Constellation.

New deals for the film include the UK (Vertigo Releasing), Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy (Koch Films) and Australia and New Zealand (Rialto Distribution). Negotiations for further territories are ongoing; the film sold to IFC Midnight for the US in April, with a release set for this summer.

The publisher describes the project as the story of Henry Hanks, a “likable, average everyman who will become responsible for destroying the world,” under the influence of Kako, a seemingly unstoppable chaotic force that exists throughout the multiverse — a force that he swears to destroy, no matter the cost.

Do you know the difference between justice and punishment?  Thomas Jane does and he proved it to the relatively small audience gathered at a Comic-Con panel for Raw Studios.  In an intimate setting in a small convention room that wasn't titled Ballroom 20 or Hall H, Jane ran the show for the independent studio presentation.  Their projects included a Bad Planet videogame adaptation of their comic series with gaming studio Red Flag, a short conceptual film for a Western they're producing called A Magnificent Death from a Shattered Hand and, to the delight of Punisher fans in the audience, a fantastic short film featuring Jane as the Marvel anti-hero.  That was awesome enough, but a special guest star also joined the presentation: Ron Perlman, who recently proved how great a human being he is, had a small cameo in the film.  Hit the jump for a recap of the Punisher short film featuring Jane and Perlman.

Jj Abrams’ “Star Trek” reboot is warping fans into a certain future of fresh adventures for the gallant crew of the Starship Enterprise. With writer/director Sofia Coppola’s (Lost in Translation, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette) Somewhere playing in limited release, I was recently able to sit down with Stephen Dorff to talk about making the movie. In Somwhere, Dorff plays “a bad-boy A-list actor stumbling through a life of excess" when his 11-year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) unexpectedly arrives to live with him. Most of the film takes place at the Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood and like all of Coppola’s movies, the film moves at its own pace. After a string of family-centered flicks including Race to Witch Mountain and The Game Plan, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is returning to the world of action. According to the trades, the wrestler-turned-actor has signed on to star in Faster. Johnson will play an ex-con bent on avenging the death of his brother, murdered 10 years earlier when the two were double-crossed during a heist. Tony Gayton (Murder by Numbers, The Salton Sea) wrote the script. Phil Joanou, who directed Johnson in the football drama Gridiron Gang, will helm the flick.
