      Initially, René Hervil, was to direct. He wrote the script and even scouted for locations in the Basque Country, but due to Huguette Duflos' theatre contracts, filming was advanced and as Hervil was busy shooting "Le crime du Bouif", he had to be replaced by Julien Duvuvier.
