One of Hollywood's premier nepo babies (and we say that with love), as the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, Dakota Johnson was always going to be able to have a career in the entertainment industry if she wanted it. And although she's had a few missteps over the years, she's also been in a number of spectacular films.
With an easy charm and a dry sense of humor, Johnson can usually be relied upon to make a positive impression in whatever movies she appears in. She's been acting for 15 years now (not counting a childhood cameo in her mother's film "Crazy in Alabama" back in 1999), so she has plenty of credits in her filmography. But which of her movies are the best of the best? Some are high-profile blockbusters, while others are smaller indies, but they're all top-tier Dakota Johnson films.

“This place looks Disneyland,” says Dakota Johnson admiringly. It’s her first visit to Karlovy Vary, and her attempts to take in the local sights and delicacies have been sadly scuppered by the sheer number of sightseers on the spa town’s picturesque main drag. “It was kind of hard to get around, so I went to the gym instead,” she recalls. She does, however, admit to having tried absinthe — an extra-strong local spirit also known as The Green Fairy — the night before. “It burned my nose,” she says. “Is it healthy? I only had a mouse-sip.”
Johnson has two films at the festival, Celine Song’s surprise sleeper Materialists and Michael Angelo Corvino’s Cannes hit Splitsville, both female-skewed, adult romcoms set in the modern world of relationships. Though she jokes about her dark side (“I would love to play a psychopath”), right now Johnson has found herself in a good groove.

Dakota Johnson is likely to direct her first feature based on a script by an autistic actress she has acted with in a film, wants to continue telling female-centric stories through her TeaTime Pictures, avoid “toxic sets,” measure the success of movies in terms of viewer impact rather than box office and would love to play a psychopath and an action role, the actress said Sunday.
Asked by reporters during a press roundtable at the 59th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Kviff) in the Czech Republic about whether she will move beyond acting and producing into directing, Johnson replied: “I think I will direct a feature, a very small one, hopefully soon. And it’s really close to my heart and very close to TeaTime. We’re making it with Vanessa Burghardt, who played my daughter in Cha Cha Real Smooth. She’s an incredible autistic actress.

Mark Snow, the Emmy-nominated composer behind the beloved X-Files theme song, has died. He was 78.
Snow died Friday at his home in Connecticut, a representative confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sean Callery, a fellow composer and friend of Snow’s, also announced his death on Facebook.
“Mark Snow, and one of the most wonderful and talented people I’ve ever known, has passed away,” he wrote in the Friday post. “33 years ago he began mentoring me as an artist. Who knew that I was also at the beginning of a deep friendship that would only grow and evolve over 3 decades along with our graying hair and tighter deadlines.”
Callery continued. “I am so grateful to him for his sage counsel and his laugh-out-loud biting wit. My career got started by an act of generosity on his part 33 years ago – period, full stop. I love you my friend. There will never ever be another like you.

A film from Iran that has been kept secret so far to ensure the safety of its delegation, along with Dakota Johnson, Stellan Skarsgård, Peter Sarsgaard and Vicky Krieps, has joined the lineup for the 59th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Kviff).
Known as a popular stop on the film festival circuit for many stars, Karlovy Vary had previously already unveiled a visit from Michael Douglas this year.
The 12th and final film of this year’s Karlovy Vary Crystal Globe main competition program is Iran’s Bidad from director Soheil Beiraghi, which tells the story of young singer Seti who refuses to accept the fact that women in Iran are not allowed to perform in public. “In defiance of her country’s religious laws, she decides to sing in the street,” according to a synopsis. “Her performances quickly gain in popularity, and Seti becomes a star...

Dakota Johnson’s 5 Best Performances Ranked (Photo Credit – Prime Video/Netflix)
Coming from a film background, Dakota Johnson has always been under the spotlight. However, when she made her debut in the industry at the age of 9 in 1999 in a small role alongside her mother, Melanie Griffith, in the lead role in the movie Crazy in Alabama, she didn’t go viral instantly.
In fact, she didn’t appear in any other projects until 2010. She slowly got the hang of how the industry works, and even took part in various projects, where she played small roles. Until she featured in the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy alongside Jamie Dornan and broke the internet. Dakota got her biggest breakthrough with that and proved she has the quality to lead a movie.
But, now she is among one of the most seasoned actresses present in Hollywood. She is currently ruling the movie theatres with her latest project,...

Hollywood was familiar territory to Dakota Johnson. For those unversed, her parents, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, were household names in the industry. Johnson made her debut at 10 years of age in Crazy in Alabama.
Subsequently, she took on shorter roles in films like The Social Network and 21 Jump Street. The actress was constructing her career, but the breakout role hadn’t come yet to her. That was altered in 2015 with Fifty Shades of Grey. However, taking on the role of Anastasia Steele wasn’t an effortless selection. The role came with fame, scrutiny, and a career shift.
But saying yes wasn’t easy. Johnson knew the franchise was massive—but not in a “cinematic masterpiece” way. For better or worse, this role would follow her forever. So, naturally, she needed a second opinion. To help make her decision, Johnson turned to someone she trusted—Emily Blunt.

Dakota Johnson may be Hollywood royalty, but she's a successful actress in her own right, and has earned herself an impressive net worth. She first broke out with her role as Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, which brought her international fame. Since then, she has continued to showcase her versatility by starring in films ranging from indie dramas like The Lost Daughter to psychological horror in Suspiria. While her 2024 film Madame Web was a critical and box office dud, this won't stall her burgeoning career.

Raised on film sets, Johnson made her acting debut at the age of 10 with a bit part in 1999's Crazy in Alabama, starring her mother and directed by her then-stepfather,...

Actress Dakota Johnson is not making headlines this time around for her role in a romantic drama or a gripping thriller. Instead, it is due to her disappointment with the cast of the recently released superhero film, Madame Web. The actress, 34, participated in extensive driving stunt training for Sony’s film, but she was not permitted to do any “crazy things” while working on the film.
During her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Johnson was asked if she was excited to be doing her own stunts in Madame Web, helmed by the British director S. J. Clarkson. The film is based on the same-named character from Marvel Comics. Johnson plays Cassandra Webb, better known as Madame Webb, a clairvoyant with the ability to foresee future occurrences in the ‘spider world’.

Much like Drew Barrymore, Kate Hudson, and Jane Fonda before her, Dakota Johnson comes from an impressive (and talented) Hollywood lineage. Her grandparents are Tippi Hedren, Hitchcock muse and star of The Birds, and Peter Griffith, a Broadway actor. Her parents, of course, are actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, and her former stepfather is Antonio Banderas. Dakota made her big-screen debut alongside her mother in 1999's Crazy in Alabama, but her big break came when she was cast as Anastasia "Ana" Steele in the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey (she's currently filming the second film adaptation of the series with Jamie Dornan). She's also starred in Black Mass and the romantic comedy How to Be Single with Leslie Mann and Rebel Wilson. Aside from showing off her acting chops, Dakota has also blossomed into a breakout style star and made us laugh with her off-the-cuff remarks and...

Dakota Johnson comes from a rich background of actors and actresses and is now starting to truly flourish as one herself. Born on October 4th 1989, the 25-year-old star of Fifty Shades of Grey is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, while her stepfather’s from her mother’s later relationships include Steven Bauer and Antonio Banderas.
Having started her acting career in 1999’s Crazy In Alabama, Johnson has gone on to appear in a number of big movies, such as The Social Network, 21 Jump Street and Need For Speed, but had gone largely under the radar prior to her (somewhat surprising) casting as Anastasia Steele in this year’s adaptation of E. L. James’ incredibly popular erotic novel.

Antonio Banderas has been tearing it up in front of the camera lately. This year alone he's poised to hit theaters in five films, including Pedro Almodovàr's high-flying musical comedy I'm So Excited, Terrence Malick's mysterious Knight of Cups, and the recently wrapped Robert Rodriguez action flick Machete Kills. Perhaps needing a break from performing, or maybe inspired by all the big name filmmakers he's been working with over the past year, Banderas is looking to move behind the camera. And he's taking his long-time wife Melanie Griffith along for the ride. Variety reports Banderas is prepping for production on Akil, a love story he's written, and will direct and produce. This will mark his third directorial effort, following the 1999 dramedy Crazy in Alabama and the 2006 Spanish-language romantic drama Summer Rain. And as she did in the former, Griffith will front her husband's film. Named for its title character,...

Antonio Banderas has confirmed he will be returning to the director’s chair for his upcoming psychological thriller Solo. The project is based on an original screenplay written by Erik Jendersen.
The sci-fi thriller centers on a Spanish colonel (played by Banderas) who suffers from post-conflict trauma. Erik Jendersen’s top writing credit to date is the excellent Band of Brothers, which further implies this could have several combat sequences.
This film will make Antonio’s third time directing, the first being 1999’s Crazy in Alabama and the second 2006’s Summer Rain but neither were anything more then average. Maybe a project with a bit more to say for itself will do Banderas’ dwindling career the world good in a similar vein to Ben Affleck.
The film will be produced by Antonio Banderas’ company Green Moon Label and will use an almost exclusively Spanish cast although the movie will be shot in English.

Gig Patta's Take: With only $14 million for its budget, there will only be a very small sci-fi element to it. There isn't any further details on the project and I've never seen Antonio Banderas other directed films. Does Banderas' "Solo" film project sound interesting to you?Source: Variety...
