One of Hollywood's premier nepo babies (and we say that with love), as the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, Dakota Johnson was always going to be able to have a career in the entertainment industry if she wanted it. And although she's had a few missteps over the years, she's also been in a number of spectacular films.

With an easy charm and a dry sense of humor, Johnson can usually be relied upon to make a positive impression in whatever movies she appears in. She's been acting for 15 years now (not counting a childhood cameo in her mother's film "Crazy in Alabama" back in 1999), so she has plenty of credits in her filmography. But which of her movies are the best of the best? Some are high-profile blockbusters, while others are smaller indies, but they're all top-tier Dakota Johnson films.

“This place looks Disneyland,” says Dakota Johnson admiringly. It’s her first visit to Karlovy Vary, and her attempts to take in the local sights and delicacies have been sadly scuppered by the sheer number of sightseers on the spa town’s picturesque main drag. “It was kind of hard to get around, so I went to the gym instead,” she recalls. She does, however, admit to having tried absinthe — an extra-strong local spirit also known as The Green Fairy — the night before. “It burned my nose,” she says. “Is it healthy? I only had a mouse-sip.”

Johnson has two films at the festival, Celine Song’s surprise sleeper Materialists and Michael Angelo Corvino’s Cannes hit Splitsville, both female-skewed, adult romcoms set in the modern world of relationships. Though she jokes about her dark side (“I would love to play a psychopath”), right now Johnson has found herself in a good groove.

Dakota Johnson is likely to direct her first feature based on a script by an autistic actress she has acted with in a film, wants to continue telling female-centric stories through her TeaTime Pictures, avoid “toxic sets,” measure the success of movies in terms of viewer impact rather than box office and would love to play a psychopath and an action role, the actress said Sunday.

Asked by reporters during a press roundtable at the 59th edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Kviff) in the Czech Republic about whether she will move beyond acting and producing into directing, Johnson replied: “I think I will direct a feature, a very small one, hopefully soon. And it’s really close to my heart and very close to TeaTime. We’re making it with Vanessa Burghardt, who played my daughter in Cha Cha Real Smooth. She’s an incredible autistic actress.

Sean Callery, a fellow composer and friend of Snow’s, also announced his death on Facebook.

“Mark Snow, and one of the most wonderful and talented people I’ve ever known, has passed away,” he wrote in the Friday post. “33 years ago he began mentoring me as an artist. Who knew that I was also at the beginning of a deep friendship that would only grow and evolve over 3 decades along with our graying hair and tighter deadlines.”

Callery continued. “I am so grateful to him for his sage counsel and his laugh-out-loud biting wit. My career got started by an act of generosity on his part 33 years ago – period, full stop. I love you my friend. There will never ever be another like you.

Veteran TV and movie composer Mark Snow has died. A veteran musician and composer, Snow was best known for composing the haunting opening theme of The X-Files, in addition to scoring every episode of the series. Snow turned the main theme for “The X-Files” into a chart hit and one of the most recognizable television themes of all time. He also scored the David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson series for 200 episodes. Other major shows Snow scored included “Ghost Whisperer,” “Blue Bloods,” six seasons of “Smallville,” “Hart to Hart,” and “Tj Hooker.”

The veteran composer wrangled up 15 Emmy nominations throughout his career. Beasley died in a hospital in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska, his son Tyrone Beasley told The Hollywood Reporter. He had been undergoing tests on his liver before taking an unexpected turn for the worst.

The Grammy winner born Marvin Lee Aday died Thursday night surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends, Meat Loaf’s longtime agent Michael Greene told Deadline on behalf of the family. A cause of death is not being released. According to TMZ, the singer died of Covid-related complications.

“We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man,” Meat Loaf’s family said in a statement. “From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!”

The psychological thriller with sci-fi touches follows a Spanish colonel (Banderas) suffering post-conflict trauma, based on a screenplay by Erik Jendresen ("Band Of Brothers").

The $14 million Spanish production, with Spanish actors, was shot in English, backed by Banderas and his production company, Green Moon.

"Unfortunately, to reach large international markets," said Banderas, "you have to shoot in English."

Antonio Banderas has confirmed he will be returning to the director’s chair for his upcoming psychological thriller Solo. The project is based on an original screenplay written by Erik Jendersen.

The sci-fi thriller centers on a Spanish colonel (played by Banderas) who suffers from post-conflict trauma. Erik Jendersen’s top writing credit to date is the excellent Band of Brothers, which further implies this could have several combat sequences.

This film will make Antonio’s third time directing, the first being 1999’s Crazy in Alabama and the second 2006’s Summer Rain but neither were anything more then average. Maybe a project with a bit more to say for itself will do Banderas’ dwindling career the world good in a similar vein to Ben Affleck.

The film will be produced by Antonio Banderas’ company Green Moon Label and will use an almost exclusively Spanish cast although the movie will be shot in English.
