      Faithful Marianne.

The title may mislead the viewer :Marianne's lovers do not love a woman ;they try their hand at politics .Marianne has been the symbol of the French Republic since the Revolution ;however ,it was 1870 and the coming of the Third Republic before she started appearing in the form of statues in town halls (her faces were notably Brigitte Bardot's and Catherine Deneuve's.) She has also become a symbol of feminism....

.......which she was not in the fifties : "you cannot understand ,it's politics" a man says to his wife!!!

A wealthy industrialist decides to stand in the legislative elections ; but his accountant has the same idea, because his boss always looked scornfully at him; when he was elected ,he would resign from this work. Overnight ,they become enemies ,and ,to make the matters worse, the tycoon's son falls in love with the employee's daughter.

There are some funny moments ,notably the meetings where each candidate tries to spoil the party .Note that the rich's party is a good oxymoron : "the progressive conservatives" ;and that the ending is a bit reactionary , for the man from the people's generous ideas do not seem to convince the electors.
