    still going strong

Although i did tend to find it the weakest of the 4 live shows it was still very good. The duo never fail to make you laugh and their use of violence as comedy is just pure genius. If you have seen this then watch numbers 3 and 4 as well because they just get better and better. 9 out of 10

    Quick! kill the parrot

I have to say i watched this live in cardiff november 1995 and i laughed so loud Rik & Ade shouted back at me! i find bottom so funny i was in absolutely hysterics as soon as the opening theme tune kicked in. However i would say this is possibly the weakest of the series but there is so much chaos and mayhem in the prison scene you just wont give a damn! Highlight of the show is when the audience applauded Eddies pet parrot, in which Ade edmondson replies "Thats right, give a piece of plasic a round of applause we've been F*****g working our b******S off! tears were running down my face at this point and then Edmondson started hurling abuse in my direction! but lucky for me he was taking the mick of the taff bloke behind me who had spilt his drink all over himself.

One of the best British comedy duos ever!

I've been a fan of BOTTOM and YOUNG ONES for years, since I was 11 to be exact (Im 20 now!!) and I hadnt seen nothing until I saw the BOTTOM LIVE videos!!!!

Okay the second one was a wee bit iffy for me but still I loved it!! The parrot was funny especially when everyone applauded and Ade says "Thats right give the lump of plastic an applause!!".

The way they improvise when something goes wrong (missing lines- Rik's speciality, tripping over wires, doors flying open) is PURE CLASSIC! The improvisation bits always crack me up, leaving me in utter stitches!!!

    Go.....see.......now!!!

    Hilarious, simply hilarious

In my opinion this is their second best live show surpassed only by Hooligan's Island. To sum up the plot, this line from the show says it all: "Stop turning everything dirty, will you, I'm trying to f**k the Queen!" - yes, that's the plot :D The first half of the show is great fun (God save the Quim, Eddie?) but it's the second half that really gets me in tears from laughter. Among other things you will in this half experience Ade getting kicked (for real) in the b******s by Rik (poor guy) which I must admit I giggle about every time. And the later scene with their girlfriends (well ... blow-up dolls, actually) gets me laughing just thinking about it. So if you in any shape or form are into vulgar humor, cricket bat violence and blow-up doll action, this is a show for you. Watch it now! 9/10

Absurd and full of cheap laughs (in a good way)

Live shows based on sitcoms often tend to do nothing more than pick the best lines of dialogue from popular episodes and attempt to squeeze them all into one strange and messy plot. The lives shows of Bottom on the other hand, despite the jokes all being fairly similar in the first place, never take anything directly from the series without it being changed enough to effectively be a new gag. Its still just Eddie thinking Richie is 'queering him up', the pair kicking each other in the balls constantly and pervy remarks being made about Sue Carpenter but Rik and Ade never failed to come up with a new innuendo or a new weapon for testicular assault.

As with the first Bottom Live the plot is minimal and the only major difference is the inclusion of two sets (the flat and the prison cell). As any fan of the series knows however, Bottom, whether it be in the form of a TV show, live performance or even a feature film, shines the most when it is kept simple. Plot heavy comedy can be great but there's nothing wrong with two of the funniest comic actors of the 80s and 90s just doing what they do best - a relentless string of nob jokes, over the top violence and improvised forth wall breaks.

I encourage anyone who enjoyed Bottom when it was new to invest in a box set of DVDs including those of the live shows. Its timeless humour that you'll have ready to brighten your day for decades to come

    • Trivia
Eddie's comment: "..I'm beginning to understand why Stephen Fry fucked off", refers to the play "Cell Mates", where Rik Mayall's co-star Stephen Fry left mid-run in a fit of depression.
    • Goofs
Just after Eddie leaves the cell for his interview with Mr Big, Richie looks through the door's peep-hole. For a brief second, you can see the face of a stagehand before he ducks out of sight.

Richie: [dictating the end of a letter to the Queen] Hey Eddie, SWALK

      Eddie: SWALK?

      Eddie: Well what about NORWICH?

Richie: Sealed with a loving Norwich?

Eddie: Nah, nah. Knockers Out Ready When I Come Home

Richie: Yeah, but shouldn't Knockers be spelt with a K?

      Eddie: Knorwich?

Richie: Of Course! I'm so stupid! That must be where the soup comes from. God I love that advert; 'K-norr! They've got the K-know-how!'

Eddie: Yea, what they really k-need is a good k-nick up the k-nackers.

Eddie: Yes, give me a second

Richie: [taunting] yes, come on, O-X-F

Eddie: Yes, I thought I had it a minute ago
