There were a number of similar films made at this time,Rio Rita,The Rogues Song,Chu Chin Chow.
The problem is that very little effort seems to have been made to turn it into anything other than filmed stage play.
Acting is stiff,staging is unimaginative and actors keep on bursting into song. So rather underwhelming.
