    Timeless classic comedy

No spoilers as it is a fun plot you will enjoy discovering for yourselves.

All star cast, great script, well paced, lovely scenery, clear camera work and excellent production values for the time. All the right ingredients: Good clean fun, suits all ages, a charming romantic interest, many well drawn, credible and interesting characters. Comedy as natural as the air you breath.

I loved this and am sorry the rights seem tangled up, preventing a re-release on TV or DVD. It deserves both! I confess to having a rosy memory of it but think it will age as well as I recall. Heard vague rumours (as much as you can as an outsider) that it may get out again one day soon?

    they're a wine mob now

Funny and charming, this vintage comedy (literally) from Australia was conceived and produced as a sort of follow up to the very successful immigrant comedy THEY'RE A WEIRD MOB which broke records in cinemas across Australia in 1966. The same lead actor, the wonderful low key and handsome Walter Chiari, and a major roster of (now) famous Aussie TV and stage actors make this wine making comedy set in the glorious vineyards of Australia's Hunter Valley a rustic jaunt back to the world of 1970. Written and directed by American B movie and sitcom/variety show comedy team Marc Daniels and Charles Isaacs ensured a workman like craftsmanship was applied, yielding palatable results. If British it would be an Ealing comedy (or something like The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain) or a farce like Buona Sera Mrs Campbell, or today a bit like SIDEWAYS. Either way it is good wholesome fun for sensitive adults and for Aussie audiences, a chance to play spot the actor when they were unknown. Other films made by the same producers like 1972's SUNSTRUCK with Harry Secombe re treading familiar Weird Mob territory were equally as successful.

This effervescent comedy leaves a sweet aftertaste.

This warm-hearted film combines physical and verbal comedy into a fine blend which is pleasing to the palate. Although the fish-out-of-water plot may at first seem to be old wine in a new wine skin, the uniqueness of the central characters keeps the bouquet fresh and full bodied. The lightness of the direction is matched perfectly with the richness of the main character, Brother George. Squeeze A Flower promises to leave a warm, sweet aftertaste, so sit back, relax and enjoy this excellent vintage.
