    Good film

I really liked the movie. I have also read the book, and even though they have definite differences between them, I still think that it was a good film. I happened to see the movie on a Saturday morning, when I was looking through the guide. Since I had read the book before I saw the movie, I had presumptions as to what it would be like. I have to admit though, that it did have a good amount of similarities to the book (which I liked as well).

    Excellent

I enjoyed this film very much. I can't wait to see it again. It was typical but excellent in it's own way. I am looking for a time that it is on so I can tape it. I wish that they would put it out on tape. The actors are excellent and should be in more movies.

    Pleasant

I generally like this kind of movie - young female lead, romantic, historical setting, with a fantasy/mystical element. This movie didn't disappoint but it also didn't leave much of an impression.

My biggest gripe is that it was too rushed. The lead character's 24 hour deadline meant there wasn't much time to develop relationships. This was especially problematic with the love interest (Lucy/Robert) and we're forced to take it as love at first sight. I thought they did well with the Lucy/Nellie friendship though. My other minor gripes was that the lead actress was too old and I thought she wore an obvious wig.

But, the acting was pretty good. I like Rutger Hauer playing creepy guys. And I thought Judy Parfitt added credibility to the movie. It appeared to be set in a real historic house/castle. I appreciate that the movie didn't try too hard or get too sentimental and it made its point in a very straight-forward manner.

    Very pleasant movie

I watched this by chance on a cold winter's afternoon. It turned out to be a treasure beautifully filmed and acted. One of those old fashioned movies with no sex or violence etc.The story was very predictable..but who cares?. I predict a bright future for Emily Hamilton who played Lucy.I gave it 9/10.

    Sweet and wholesome

The Ruby Ring, another story of a rich spoiled girl learning a lesson as to what is really important. I loved this movie! Of course I knew the ending, anyone with brains would know the ending to this movie, but it was an enjoyable ride. Emily Hamilton plays Lucy, the rich girl and Christien Anholt (Relic Hunter) plays Robert Langley, the boy she falls in love with when her ruby ring transports her back in time. I'm not going to tell you all about the movie, because they're all the same, but I will say this one was good. No sex or nasty stuff, no bad language so it's actually good for the kids too! Watch it, you'll enjoy it.

    • Trivia
This movie is based on the book "The Secret of the Ruby Ring." However, the book is set in Ireland and also tells of the troubles Irish citizens had during 1885. The movie changes this to have the only problem be Lucy's time travel and other storylines involving the members of the castle.
    • Goofs
When Lucy travels back in time, she is mistaken as a new scullery maid, yet she performs a number of chores that are either a housemaid's duty, such as making up fires and taking away breakfast trays, a laundress' duty such as taking down the linens and folding them which would never be done in a manor house without ironing them first or a footman's duty such as serving at an outdoor picnic. The only duty that Lucy performs that would be considered a scullery maid's duty would be plucking the chickens and even then, in a manor house the size of Langley Castle, that job would fall to a kitchen maid.
