I decided to take a chance on this one and boy was I wrong! The writing and directing were terrible and it's clear why this person didn't do features after this.
There is talent in the cast, I think Donnie is a decent actor, but not in this movie. Ernie is also a solid actor, but not here. Tony Todd was mis cast and misused and Shemar Moore and Sally Richardson are always eye candy. Nia Long also didn't impress me here.
The premise is decent, but the execution is terrible. Also, for a movie about the record industry, the soundtrack sucked.
Another red flag was the title change. Both titles are terrible, but anytime you change the title of a movie, you are running from bad box office or bad reviews.
I never laughed, but I don't recall any jokes. I was never on the edge of my seat, unless it was to leave the room and I never felt like this movie was going anywhere. No idea how this movie got made, but OMG, Hot Buttered Garbage!!!

This movie wasn't half bad. It had a decent story and a long list of of good actors, some that were known at the time and some better know after. There are veterans like Ernie Hudson, Tony Todd, Tiny Lister, Robert Miano, Nia Long, and James Russo along with rising stars (at the time) like Shemar Moore, Terrence Howard, Donnie Wahlberg, Sally Richardson-Whitfield, and Donald Faison. Everyone does their best. It was just as poorly put together flick. The director hardly has done anything before or since, and for a good reason. Still worth a watch for a B-movie. The performances keep you from hitting fast-forward, nothing award-winning but most of the talent knows what kind of movie they're making. The two that stand out the most are Ernie Hudson, clearly channeling Suge Knight, and Terrence Howard, who has some of the best line readings of the cheesy cop dialogue.
This is dumb. Don't even rent it. I fell asleep 30 minutes into it. It is just some unrealistic movie about some guy on a power trip. He thinks he can kill anyone in his way. The sad part is, with America anyways, you can usually make a movie about killing that a lot of people like, but they couldn't even make the killing exciting in this movie. Never see this piece of garbage.
I happened to catch this movie last night on tv. Nevertheless, it was sunday and I live in a town where tumbleweeds are more lively than the actual citizens. Anyway, this movie was pure unadultered crap. The direction was crap, some decent acting, and the sets looked like those of a shitty american soap opera. This movie was a joke, if I kept on watching it was because my only other option was some Martha Stewart show, and i Can't put up with that since my liver is about to give up on me. Well, skip this at all costs, it is not worth a penny.
Not a 4 stars but familiar faces makes for a nice one time watch.

- GoofsFreddy pulls up in a Dodge Viper at Carmen's house. When they try to get away, Freddy hits his panic button to his car and the car explodes; the car is no longer a Dodge Viper. Looks like a Ferrari body kit.
