    Great surf movie

Just saw this at the beach, down in Newport. Larry showed it up on the screen in the street. Great sound track. A really bad plot, with little acting.

So what made this movie good? The surfing and the sound track. The soundtrack was just awesome. 30 seconds into the move, all the beach kids were sold. Kept us all the way through

Unlike other surf movies, this was almost all about the surfing. Just showing waves, with a bare minimum of plot and substance, just for humor. If you like to watch waves being ridden, check this out.

    Understandably forgotten

When the surfing documentary "The Endless Summer" became a hit in 1966, the next few years saw a number of other surfing documentaries hitting theaters, "Blue Surfari" being one of them. Today it is almost forgotten and quite hard to find, but upon seeing it it's easy to figure out why it's drifted into obscurity. Unlike "The Endless Summer", it doesn't give off a big love of surfing, mostly coming across in a routine and mechanical way. The scenes away from the surf come across as phony and a real forced attempt to generate humor. The characters on screen don't display any personality, nor do we get into their heads. As for the surfing footage, some of it is okay, but it's marred by a generic background musical score as well as a narrator who simply won't shut up and let the images and music do the talking. Maybe die hard surfers might find something here, but those who have never hit the waves will wonder why anyone would find this entertaining.
