You may have seen and/or heard Patrick Warburton in dozens of iconic roles over the years, but it’s his latest work as a stand-up comedian that’s given him “one of the most amazing years” of his life.
At age 60 and after more than 30 years in film and TV, the actor is set to tape his first stand-up special, “Still Catholic,” on June 7 in Los Angeles.
“It’s just been a wild ride this year. I have been touring non-stop and I had never done this before. I wrote and I performed and it’s been an incredible year,” he told TheWrap. “I’ve never known this kind of autonomy. I’ve always been told what to do and what to say, how to say a word, and that all changed.”
“There’s a part of me that’s like why did you wait ’til now? But there...

As a childless adult, sitting in a natural wine bar killing time before an early evening showing of the live-action children’s film Lilo & Stitch is a uniquely humbling experience. Even more humbling is showing up lightly buzzed to that screening of Lilo & Stitch.
But, not unlike orange wine, nostalgia is a powerful drug.
This weekend, a dog-like blue alien and precocious 6-year-old, each with their own set of behavioral issues that no amount of gentle parenting could ever solve, just supplanted Tom Cruise, one of our last bona fide movie stars, not once, but twice over. With its $182.7 million at the domestic box office, it bested Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and then beat out 2023’s Top Gun: Maverick as the holiday’s top opener of all time.
It’s unsurprising that a family film over a long, hot Memorial Day weekend was able to reach these heights.

Disney has a new stage show coming to Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort called “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.”
Now we have a look at the show thanks to The Concrete Wanderer on YouTube.
Villains are caught in mirrors around the stage, with some characters coming out in physical form to perform.
The video focuses on the Magic Mirror’s song, which is catchy, but reminds me of a song from the old Disney Channel holiday specials.
It’s about 15 minutes long.
Some are complaining about the show being screen-heavy, but it’s likely the best way for Disney to get something new out quickly while controlling the costs. Meanwhile, Universal is coming at them with much more advanced shows. But Disney had to do something quickly, and they did.

The Emperor’s New Groove might not have received the love and attention it deserved when it first came out, but the film has since become pretty culturally significant and a gold mine for memes. It is generally considered that while Disney might have made a lot of money leaving its 2D animated era behind, it was largely a downgrade from the artistic genius of that time in the history of the company.
The Emperor’s New Groove, much like Treasure Planet and Atlantis: The Lost Empire, might not have managed to achieve the success of their more well-known counterparts, but that does not mean that it was not a brilliant comedy that people have begun recognizing in recent years.

Even though it aired for seven seasons between 1997 and 2003, "Just Shoot Me!" isn't as appreciated as it should be. While it's rarely considered to be one of the best sitcoms of all time, "Just Shoot Me!" was a strong part of NBC's late-'90s sitcom lineup, following the lives of employees at a fashion magazine, namely the outspoken Maya (Laura San Giacomo) and her boss and father, Jack (George Segal).
The show's supporting cast also includes lots of great comedians, as well as a slew of guest stars like Joe Rogan, Jessica Walter, and Mark Hamill. It's even produced one of the greatest sitcom episodes of the past 30 years with "Slow Donnie," a season 3 episode featuring David Cross pre-"Arrested Development."
Whether you agree "Just Shoot Me!" is an underrated sitcom that you should check out or not, its cast has gone on to do quite a lot since the show ended.

When discussing the films of Walt Disney Animation Studios from the 21st century, "Meet the Robinsons" is often overlooked. That is a shame, because it is one of the studio's most underrated films, telling a sincere sci-fi coming-of-age story filled with equal parts laughter and thoughtfulness. Although the film was a box office disappointment, grossing $170.5 million over a budget of $150 million, it received generally positive reviews from critics. It has also garnered some notoriety online, with fans of the film who were children when it hit theaters 18 years ago, now revisiting it and in some cases, sharing it with their children.
"Meet the Robinsons" showcased an exciting sci-fi world, and given its prominent use of time travel, utilized clever story mechanics to explore different eras in time, particularly the year 2037, which, *gulp,* we are closer to now than we are to 2007. “One more time: animation is a medium, not a genre. Animation is film,” Guillermo del Toro said last year. IndieWire couldn’t agree more, and yet animation — an art form that requires the most precise control of the cinematic medium — is continually disrespected.
Infamously, 2022’s Best Animated Oscars presentation featured several jokes about the nominees that, in the words of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, framed “the five Academy Award nominees for Best Animated Feature as a corporate product for kids that parents must begrudgingly endure.” The directing duo called upon the Academy to do better by animation. And this year’s ceremony largely delivered, with less jokes that belittled animation as kiddy stuff and a sterling speech from del Toro himself for his acclaimed stop-motion feature adaptation of “Pinocchio.”
Pixar and Studio Ghibli tend to spring to mind first when discussing great animation, but there’s a world beyond those two giants.

Fans and critics have been in agreement recently that Disney's once masterful storytelling and even animation quality has faltered. With releases like Wish and Mufasa: The Lion King not surpassing the certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and scoring in the lower-mid-range on IMDb and Letterboxd, seeing the quintessential castle logo before a film doesn't indicate that it will be a truly magical adventure anymore.
Even though films like Mufasa and Moana 2 were financially successful, more and more discourse online and among communities emerges every time Disney releases a cash-grabbing live-action film or an animated film with significant story blunders and even unfinished-looking animation. Now is a better time than ever to revisit the classics that made audiences fall in love with Disney. Even though it's bittersweet that Disney may never get back to this point, their legacy in animation must be acknowledged and honored.

Bless the poor, unfortunate soul who has to deal with a Disney villain. The studio's catalog is filled with conniving characters that are so sneaky and cruel that they could easily find their way into the nightmares of children and adults alike. Many of them make up /Film's list of top 20 Disney animated villains. However, not all villainous characters are the same. While some may make us squirm, there is a whole other class of Disney villain that offers more laughs than screams, and that's the characters that make up our list of the 10 worst animated Disney villains.
The laughs that these awful villains create often stem from big oversights that create loopholes for heroes and plots that never had the potential to succeed in the first place. The missteps and misguidance should really lead them to consider a new career path. Nonetheless, many of them are still entertaining. However,...

When Will Finn's and John Standford's animated musical Western "Home on the Range" was released, it came with an elegiac announcement. Disney, you see, had been struggling throughout the early 2000s. The 1990s renaissance was over, and much of the studio's more recent output was either failing critically or commercially. Films like "Fantasia 2000," "The Emperor's New Groove," and "Atlantis: The Lost Empire" were only modest successes, while films like "Dinosaur" and "Brother Bear" were coming and going without much notice. The studio's clunky sci-fi epic "Treasure Planet" notoriously lost buckets of money, which didn't inspire confidence. It didn't help that DreamWorks was attracting huge animation audiences with films like "Shrek" — a notoriously anti-Disney movie.
As such, to appear competitive, Disney announced that "Home on the Range" was going to be the studio's last-ever traditionally hand-drawn feature film. After that, it was to be 100% CGI. Animation purists panicked, feeling...

John Goodman sustained a hip injury during the production of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s latest film starring Tom Cruise, which has delayed filming in the U.K. for Warner Bros, Variety has confirmed.
“Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
Variety exclusively reported in October that production for Iñárritu’s untitled project was to kick off in the U.K. in November. The film is the director’s first English-language movie since 2016’s “The Revenant,” which earned Leonardo DiCaprio his first and only Oscar. Iñárritu also serves as producer and penned the script with Sabina Berman and “Birdman” co-writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris. Plot details remain under wraps.

If you think "Seinfeld" was all about its fab four of Jerry Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander, and Michael Richards, I envy you. This means you have nine unwatched seasons of sitcom genius waiting for you on streaming. If there's a "Seinfeld" fanatic in your life, you probably know about frequently recurring characters like the weaselly Newman (Wayne Knight), George's eccentric parents (Jerry Stiller and Estelle Harris), and standouts like the Soup Nazi (Larry Thomas), but do you know about the deadpan majesty of David Puddy?
Portrayed by Patrick Warburton (to the consternation of his father), David Puddy first appeared in the classic season 6 episode "The Fusilli Jerry." Puddy is Jerry's friend and mechanic who violates an unwritten guy rule when he steals Jerry's coital "move" while having sex with Elaine. Today, The Emperor’s New Groove is a cultural touchstone. Its quirky humor and countless quotable moments have turned the 2000 film into a mainstay of internet culture. It’s one of Disney Animation Studio’s many retrospective post-renaissance hits, but it almost failed to make it to theaters.
Despite its now-iconic peculiarities and many subsequent spin-offs, Mark Dindal’s hilarious masterpiece barely escaped the budgetary axe. Originally called Empire of the Sun, the project was originally headed by Roger Allers and Matthew Jacobs. Notably, neither name appears in the credits’ directorial section. That discrepancy is just one of many pieces in the tenuous tapestry that is The Emperor’s New Groove. Unlike its characteristically smooth animation, the now-beloved Disney film suffered a wild, rocky development journey. In fact, its original version barely resembles the final product.

Bob Dylan has won a variety of prestigious awards in his lifetime. The iconic songwriter and musician scored his breakout hit with his 1963 sophomore album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan and is known for songs such as "Like a Rolling Stone," "The Times They Are a-Changin'," and "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall." Some of the most iconic Bob Dylan albums include 1975's Blood on the Tracks and 1997's Time Out of Mind as well as the 1965 albums Bringing It All Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited, for which he initially drew controversy for bringing electric instrumentation into folk music.

With the box office smash Moana 2 crushing box office records, Disney has added another monster musical to their filmography. Few companies are more associated with the genre than Disney. Not only do they win big prizes in film, but Disney Musicals have taken over Broadway for years at a time. Moana 2 will still pocket several hundred million dollars before it’s done. That, as well as the impending release of Mufasa, make this the perfect time to look back over the best Disney Musicals in history.
Of note, this is a contentious discussion, to say the least. There are dozens of movies and musicals to choose from, all with valid rationales behind their inclusion. This required some hardline rules, which eliminated a few movies in the process. To qualify, we required four songs, sung for the purposes of plot by a character in the movie, to be eligible for inclusion.

“Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” the third entry in Sony’s animated web-slinging trilogy, has tapped Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson to direct.
They have been part of the franchise’s creative team since 2018’s “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” with Persichetti serving as part of the original film’s directorial trio and executive producing the 2023 sequel, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” and Thompson working as the production designer on the first film and joining the directorial trio on the second installment with Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers.
“We have had the immense privilege of being part of Miles’ journey from the very beginning, and directing the conclusion to his story is beyond exciting,” the duo said in a statement. “The creativity and care poured into every minute of this project has been truly inspiring. We have crafted what we feel is a very satisfying ending, and we can’t wait for fans to experience it.

In today's age of the internet, memes are a language. Knowing the most current memes and being able to use them appropriately counts as eloquence. The appropriateness of a meme obviously depends on the juncture of a conversation in which it is used, usually eliciting laughter from the callback or reference to a memorable instance of pop culture. From movies and celebrity interviews to song lyrics and comic book panels, any audiovisual piece of work can become the source of a meme if a moment from them is consistently referred to across various contexts.
The popularity of a meme can often even have a profound impact on its source material, from generating buzz about a movie by becoming viral to keeping a show relevant, like Friends memes that prove it is still relatable. The best memes of the movie Ma, for example, have undercut the movie's suspense and horror for viewers,...

Back in the day, you could just throw any old bullshit into the end credits of a movie. In fact, filmmakers were fond of splicing the funniest bad takes into the infinite scroll, because why not? It was just some noise to play while people filed out of the theater. Now, we’re all used to hanging around for the post-credits scene, so we pay more attention, and it turns out some end credit choices are completely unhinged.
“So I watched Edge of Tomorrow yesterday for the first time,” Redditor TheAlmightyTapir told r/Movies, “and it was a good action/sci-fi movie. I liked it. And the ending was nice right up until the credits kicked in with, ‘Iiiiiiiiii Need To Knoooooow Now!’ It was incredibly jarring, and it got me thinking if there are any other movies out with an incredibly poor/random choice of music in the end credits.

As Disney announces what the new Villains Land will be like, it just proves why a 5th gate would be better for Wdw!
D23 had a lot of big announcements for Disney World. Among them was the transformation of Frontierland into a Cars-themed area, getting rid of the Rivers of America, which has not been a popular decision.
There's also the confirmation of the long-rumored Villains Land, which does make sense. An area dedicated to Disney villains is logical, and the artwork is unique, showcasing it. We now have a bit more info courtesy of D23 Brazil as Disney Parks head Josh D'Amaro announced which villains are coming to the land:
The Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland); Jafar (Aladdin); Lady Tremaine (Cinderella); Yzma (The Emperor's New Groove); Cruella de Vil (101 Dalmatians); Captain Hook (Peter Pan); Gaston (Beauty and the Beast); Mother Gothel (Tangled); Ursula (The Little Mermaid); Hades...

As denizens of Blockbuster Video will be able to attest, the mid-1990s to early 2000s saw a massive glut of animated straight-to-video sequels and prequels to many of Disney's known animated features. There were sequels to "The Fox and the Hound," "Bambi," "Cinderella," "The Little Mermaid," "The Lion King," "Lady and the Tramp," "Atlantis: The Lost Empire," "The Emperor's New Groove," "Mulan," "Pocahontas," "Tarzan," "The Jungle Book," and even "Brother Bear." The sequels all came when there was a change of leadership at Disney, and the studio tripled-down on the mandate to make as much money as possible.
The only people who watched these movies were nostalgic Disney-obsessed adults who viewed them as a scientific curiosity, and sought to use them as talking points in long-form online articles. Very occasionally, the films were rented from Blockbuster by anyone who happened to be seven years old when the sequel in question was released.

Recently, I had the opportunity to review a new book by Disney director Stephen Anderson. Anderson is perhaps best known for directing the 2007 cult classic Meet the Robinsons and the 2011 Winnie the Pooh, which was the last entirely hand-drawn feature from the studio. Before those films, he was with the studio for quite some time, working on movies like Tarzan, The Emperor’s New Groove, and Brother Bear.
Now, he takes us on a journey back to when the company’s future was uncertain due to the death of its founder, Walt Disney.
The book Disney In-Between: The Lost Years 1966-1986 gives a deep dive into what is commonly known as Disney’s “Dark Age.”
The first few years of the company after Walt’s death were somewhat stable, mainly finishing up projects that Walt was already involved with. But after that, things started to feel like they had lost their magic touch.

When Lilo and Stitch was released in theaters in June 2002, nobody could have expected it to be the complete hit Disney animation needed. After a successful run in the '90s known as the Disney Renaissance with films like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King, the animation studio hit a rough spot in the early 2000s. The studio had high-profile disappointments like The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and the film following Lilo and Stitch, Treasure Planet, would be one of the biggest bombs in the studio's history.

John Goodman is a recurring actor for the 2000s era of Disney and Pixar movies, with some titles emerging as smash hits and others as mediocre installments. Goodmans recognizable voice is perfect for big and friendly characters, namely several of Disneys best animated fathers or paternal figures. The characterization provided by Goodman at least improved if it did not entirely transform the movie into something worthwhile.
After making his Disney debut in The Emperors New Groove, Goodman got the attention of Pixar, then still in its era of an uninterrupted streak of hits with a history of casting well-known actors. However, Goodman has not entirely escaped being in unnecessary Disney sequels or spinoffs, predictably resulting in lackluster installments. Goodmans Disney career of main characters and cameos, some of the best Pixar movies and the worst, illustrates how he became someone Disney loves to work with.

Several highly rated cult classics from the 2000s failed at the box office due to changing audience expectations and poor marketing. The rise of major franchises in the 2000s contributed to the box office struggles of many praiseworthy films. Some huge flops, like Ali and Treasure Planet, were victims of bad timing, coinciding with other releases.
A handful of movies that have come to be considered among the best cult classics of the 2000s flopped at the box office in their time. While the oversaturation of certain genres and the advent of streaming services has given rise to many major box office failures in the 2010s and 2020s, a few of the biggest box office bombs of all time are from the 2000s. The 2000s proved to be a tricky decade for some praiseworthy movies, with competition from major franchises and new advancements in filmmaking leaving old-school movies in their dust.

Chris Sanders' and Dean De Blois' 2002 animated film "Lilo & Stitch" was released by Disney and was part of what might be considered a "low" period in the studio's history. Disney had a series of bangers in the 1990s, a period often referred to as the Disney Renaissance. That period came to an end in 2000 with the release of "Dinosaur," however, a technology experiment featuring life-like dinosaurs realized in CGI. That was followed by multiple expensive bombs, one right after the other, and almost all the films (from "Fantasia 2000" in 2000 through to "Bolt" in 2008) were costly misfires.
Only two from the period stand out. Mark Dindal's slapstick comedy "The Emperor's New Groove" and "Lilo & Stitch." The latter is deeply beloved by the children who saw it in 2002, and appreciate both its warmth and its weirdo edge.

Disney movies have a magic of their own, and the 2000s animations are a class apart. The 2000s themselves were an iconic era, and the lightness and fun of Y2K are even making a comeback. Disney's style of animation, the sweet storylines, and the nostalgia are unparalleled, and somehow, the newer animations don't quite cut it.
This decade had its fair share of good and not-so-great films, but all of them were full of heart. In fact, some of the movies from the 2000s have gone on to become iconic Disney animations, such as Ratatouille and Up. Per Deadline, Malick will be reprising her role from the first two seasons as Julianne Walters, the new prosecutor for the night shift at the Manhattan Criminal Court. Another day, another former Disney creative leaves the studio to join another. This time, it is Don Hall, perhaps best known for his directorial work on films such as Big Hero 6, Moana, and Raya and the Last Dragon.
When he joined the studio his first major project was 1999’s Tarzan. He would go on to work on films such as The Emperor’s New Groove, Brother Bear, and Chicken Little.
He eventually climbed the ladder and wrote the screenplay for 2007’s Meet the Robinsons. His directorial debut finally came with 2011’s Winnie the Pooh. He would make back-to-back hits with Big Hero 6 in 2014 and Moana in 2016. His later films, such as Raya and the Last Dragon and Strange World, however, left much to be desired.
In addition to writing and directing, Hall would also be part of the creative leadership team on films such as Zootipia, Ralph Breaks the Internet,...

The legendary orange tabby gets a 2D-looking makeover for “The Garfield Movie,” the fully animated origin story (voiced by Chris Pratt). That’s in stark contrast to Garfield’s hyper-real look in the previous live-action/animated hybrid movies (voiced by Bill Murray).
In the reboot, the lasagna-loving Garfield is abandoned as a kitty by his scruffy street cat dad, Vic (Samuel L. Jackson). Then he forms a family with Jon Arbuckle (Nicholas Hoult) and pup Odie (Harvey Guillén) and is reunited with Vic for a dangerous adventure. This involves a revenge plot, a dairy heist, and a train chase finale featuring weaponized Italian food, as well as flat camera work evoking the comic strip format.
Director Mark Dindal (“The Emperor’s New Groove”) was game for an origin story with untapped vulnerability, and selected Pratt after watching the actor profess his love of snack food and laziness.

The upcoming Garfield Movie features an ensemble cast led by Chris Pratt, with Samuel L. Jackson and other talented actors. Despite past lackluster Garfield films, this new installment has already shown promise with strong international box office numbers. Chris Pratt's track record in blockbuster films suggests he could potentially elevate Garfield into a lucrative franchise.
There have been several notable voice actors who voiced the iconic animated cat Garfield before Chris Pratt took the role in The Garfield Movie. The Garfield Movie will be the first feature film about the lasagna-loving and Monday-hating feline protagonist since 2006's Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (directed by Tim Hill), which was a sequel to 2004's Garfield: The Movie (directed by Peter Hewitt). Despite the decade-spanning popularity of the Garfield character, both films received poor reviews from critics, with the 2004 movie earning an abysmal 14% on Rotten Tomatoes and the sequel getting a score...
