Whether it's overlooked historical Westerns or even Zac Efron movies, K-dramas — South Korean live-action scripted television — take their inspiration from a myriad of sources. For the 2018 mystery series "Ms. Ma, Nemesis," the Korean show was heavily influenced by classic British author Agatha Christie. More specifically, as evidenced by its title, "Ms. Ma, Nemesis" was based on the 1971 novel "Nemesis," the final book Christie wrote starring her famous recurring detective Miss Marple. And while "Ms. Ma, Nemesis" goes beyond the 1971 novel, its adaptation of one of Agatha Christie's best books makes this K-drama stand out.
"Ms. Ma, Nemesis" stars Kim Yunjin as a wealthy heiress who is falsely convicted and incarcerated for the murder of her daughter. Escaping from prison to track down the real culprit and clear her name, the woman decides to use her deductive crime-solving skills in solving other cases. She does this by working under an assumed name,...

Last month, we reported on the tragic death of Aubrey Plaza’s husband, Jeff Baena.
The talented director took his own life at the age of 47.
Understandably, Aubrey has been keeping a low profile in the weeks since.

Robbie Williams v. Furiosa v. Beloved Aussie Christmas Song v. Demon Possession. That’s the general gist of this year’s Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (Aacta) film nominations. The satirical musical bio-pic Better Man achieved the most nominations (16), but Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and How To Make Gravy (15 each) and Late Night With The Devil (14) are not that far behind. The nomination total for Better Man is a record breaker, so the fact that three other films are very close to its indicates that the number of films that managed any nominations this year is low. There’s also a more significant artistic precedent that has been set this year amongst the acting nominees which we'll discus.

Moana 2 didn’t waste any time asserting its dominance at the box office, as the animated sequel brought in an impressive first-week total of $248 million domestically (per Box Office Mojo). The highly anticipated follow-up to Disney’s Moana (2016) is also spearheading a record-breaking, post-Thanksgiving weekend combined with all the other film titles, which are led by Moana 2, Wicked, and Gladiator II.

Additionally, all the films over the weekend are predicted to bring in a total of $129 million (per Deadline), which surpasses the post-Thanksgiving weekend record of $119.7 million set six years ago when Ralph Breaks the Internet ($25.6 million), The Grinch ($17.9 million), Creed II ($16.6 million), and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald ($11.4 million) all basked in their lucrative numbers.

When thinking of movies that made a mark in history, American Beauty definitely comes to mind. The 1999 film is still remembered today for exploring the search for deeper meaning in life and shining a light on male vulnerability. Wes Bentley was one of the actors who gained the most from the project, and ever since, his work has been highly praised and in demand.
Wes Bentley in Yellowstone (Credits: Paramount+)
What’s most interesting is that even after 25 years, he’s still closely associated with it. The actor is currently part of the cast of Yellowstone, one of the most popular series today, but what many people don’t know is that American Beauty played a key role in landing him that part. It seems Bentley is still reaping the rewards of the film to this day.

When it comes to anime, few things are sweeter than romance. My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999 has one of the best takes on a slow-burn romance between a high school boy and a college girl. With only 13 episodes, the absence of unnecessary drama and filler characters has contributed to the anime’s reputation as one of the top rom-coms.

Not to mention, the season finale of My Love Story has left fans unsatisfied and craving more. Although there’s no official confirmation of Season 2, fans remain hopeful for a prequel, even with the manga’s extended hiatus. Unlike many iconic shoujo anime, My Love Story strikes a perfect balance of romance and comedy. Amid all the commendation, My Love Story nearly damaged its most beloved character due to a lack of clear direction.

It’s no secret that The Rookie has some pretty badass characters, but who is the most badass out of the bunch?
To many, it may be up for debate.
But we have our own thought process on how we’d rank these The Rookie fan favorites when it comes to badassery.
(Disney/Raymond Liu (ABC))
Whether it’s mental fortitude, fearlessness, a knack for taking bad guys down or out, or attitude, there can only be one right answer, as far as we’re concerned, regarding the most badass of the bunch.
But that doesn’t make getting to that top answer any easier.
Let’s get into it, and make sure you tell us below if you agree!
13. Quigley Smitty (Disney/Raymond Liu (ABC))
Smitty is notoriously an underachiever on the series, and he’s known for his comic relief.

Chicago’s Beach Bunny are back with a new song, “Clueless,” about the one thing in this life that’ll never resolve — the passing of time.
“Clueless” is a charming indie pop-rock meditation on aging and memory, which singer/guitarist Lili Trifilio wrote back in February while “reflecting on the passing new year.” The track arrives with a music video, directed by Bertie Gilbert, in which a surprise birthday party for Trifilio turns into an existential conundrum and surreal time wrap, complete with fading photographs and a cake with numbered birthday candles that keep changing.

Baby Talk was a notorious flop TV series due to numerous issues. The cast and crew faced turmoil, leading to multiple re-castings and executive disappointments. The show suffered from lackluster writing and a flawed premise, failing to resonate with audiences.
The 1989 family film Look Who's Talking demonstrated the appeal of a good comedy gimmick if done correctly. The television show it spawned, Baby Talk, exposed all the limitations, selected by critics as the most objectionable TV show for 1991. If you grew up in the '90s, you are probably more than a little familiar with the tried and true TV viewing block called Tgif (Thank Goodness It's Friday).
The venerable, family-friendly schedule consisted of a lot of various half-hour comedies. Schmaltzy perhaps, they earned extended runs through solid writing and endearing characters, the foundation laid by the classic roster of Full House, Family Matters, and Perfect Strangers. Talk about an identity crisis!
In a wonderfully funny and completely original comedy, French star Chiara Mastroianni in a bit of an existential crisis mode decides one day to morph into her very famous father, the late great Marcello Mastroianni. In a search for her own identity she discovers more about herself, her father, even her equally famous mother Catherine Deneuve who surprisingly consented to play herself and discover truths about her relationship with her ex-finacé (he died in 1996) that had never been made public.
Playing tonight in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival, where the entire family has appeared many times as fictional characters, this time it hits close to home, but always with a light touch as Chiara drops her own persona and hits the town as if it were Marcello Mastroianni back in Fellini’s 8 1/2. Black suit, hat, moustache, large glasses — she’s all in.

Montreal-based filmmaker Meryam Joobeur made an international splash with her Oscar-nominated “Brotherhood,” winning considerable acclaim for a 2018 short about a rural Tunisian family wracked with heartache once the eldest son returns home after fighting for Isis. Premiering in competition in Berlin, Joobeur’s feature debut “Who Do I Belong To” builds on the same premise and keeps the same cast, but the filmmaker does not see her latest film as an extension or reimagining.
Instead, “Who Do I Belong To” reframes the narrative around a more female perspective, focusing on the family matriarch Aisha (Salha Nasraoui) who is torn between relief, grief and guilt when only one of her two escaped sons comes home. What’s more, he returns with a pregnant Syrian bride, unspeaking and unsettled beneath a full-body niqab. The feature also works in new tones, playing with magical realism and full-blown horror to better explore the story’s darkest corners.

Secret Invasion director Ali Selim explained why less is more with the Marvel Cinematic Universe miniseries as the show's episodes gradually shortened throughout the season.
Speaking with Variety, Selim said the shorter episodes were a part of his "practical evolution" of the show and its story, with Episode 6, "Home" clocking in at less than 40 minutes to round out the Disney+ series, diverting from the typical jam-packed show closer. "It's really just practical exploration and the practical evolution of a story," Selim said. "It's written one way; actors start performing it, and it becomes something slightly different; and when you start filming the performances, it becomes something slightly different; and then when you go to edit it, you realign yourself."

For veteran actor Samuel L. Jackson, one film from the 90s immediately comes to mind as perhaps his most underrated movie.
In a new interview with Vulture, the Secret Invasion star reflected on the many films of his career. During the conversation, Jackson was asked about his movies that didn't get the reception from filmgoers that he'd hoped for at the time. That had Jackson naming One Eight Seven as an important film he was proud of only for the drama to get largely ignored when it was first released back in 1997.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Secret Invasion episode 5, "Harvest."
Marvel Studios may have hinted at two prominent MCU characters being in serious danger, thanks to some major reveals in Phase 5's Secret Invasion. Samuel L. Jackson returned as Nick Fury in Secret Invasion, with the series marking his first solo project in the MCU, despite his debut in the franchise's very first project. Secret Invasion has included many twists that have changed the landscape of the MCU significantly, including revealing Fury's marriage to a Skrull, several unexpected and tragic deaths, and outing characters as Skrulls in disguise. Though more subdued than previous episodes, Secret Invasion episode 5 was no different, potentially spelling bad news for two major MCU characters.
Secret Invasion's premiere episode set the tone for the entire series, opening with a mysterious scene which marked the return of Martin Freeman as former CIA Agent Everett K. Ross.

The following contains spoilers for Secret Invasion Episode 4, "Beloved," now streaming on Disney+.
Nobody is safe on Secret Invasion. Marvel's latest Disney+ series pits Nick Fury against the rogue Skrull Gravik, who has assumed control of all Skrulls based on Earth in order to take the planet from humanity. Gravik is driven by a belief that his people have been betrayed by Nick Fury and Carol Danvers, as well as his belief that humans are a violent, self-destructive species that deserve to be wiped out. He has already been seen going to extreme lengths to realize his vision for world domination, but his methods may well have exposed the hypocrisies that will be his undoing.
Episode 4, "Beloved," ended on what is perhaps Secret Invasion's most devastating death yet, when Gravik used his shape-shifting abilities to get close to Talos in the middle of a combat zone and then killed him in cold blood.

The following contains spoilers for the first four episodes of Secret Invasion, now streaming on Disney+.
Secret Invasion star Dermot Mulroney recently revealed that he doesn't know how the Disney+ limited series will wrap up its Skrull-centric storyline.
Speaking with TVLine, Mulroney -- who stars as U.S. President Ritson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series -- revealed that he couldn't tease the July 26 finale because he has no clue how the series will conclude. "To be truthful, I haven’t seen it. And I haven’t even read all of the pages because I only ever saw the ones that had Ritson on it," the actor explained. "I know what the elements are going to be, so I guess you could safely say you can expect one of those sequences where each of the storylines are culminating and they’re cutting back and forth, Godfather-style. They’re all coming to a climax.

Secret Invasion has introduced a new level of wariness in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as infiltration of rogue Skrulls in the world's governments creates tension with the masses. But to make matters worse, they've also managed to assume the life of at least one Avenger, James Rhodes. For now, it's unclear how long the Skrull known as Raava has taken Rhodey's identity, but she's done considerable damage as an accomplice in a dirty bomb detonation.
In Episode 4 of the series, "Beloved," Rhodey set up an assassination attempt on President Ritson, which couldn't have been achieved had Rhodey not worked his way up the ladder. In fact, Rhodey's seat as the president's right hand should've been the biggest tell that this version of the hero was not genuine. That's because, as history has shown, Rhodey's best trait was...
