Sammy Hagar has announced a new live album titled Sammy Hagar & The Best of All Worlds Band – The Residency. The October 10th release captures Hagar with his all-star band of Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Kenny Aronoff performing at the Dolby Live at Park MGM as part of their Las Vegas residency earlier this year.

Sammy Hagar and his all-star band featuring Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, and Jason Bonham kicked off the “Best of All Worlds” tour (get tickets here) on Saturday (July 13th) at the iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida. As promised, the Red Rocker delivered a set filled with Van Halen classics.

Hagar and company launched the 21-song set with “Good Enough” from Van Halen’s 5150 album. It was one of 12 tunes the band performed from the “Van Hagar” era of Van Halen.

For the biggest night in music, the Grammy Awards consistently struggle to overcome their ordinariness. In previous years, the show seemed to be on a confused search for meaning. Ever since Netflix announced it would be opening a Los Angeles pop-up restaurant, the jokes have been flying on social media. Would the servers use an algorithm to ask, “Since you liked grilled cheese, can we suggest broccoli?” Would you be allowed to share food with your friends or would it be forbidden, like Netflix password-sharing?

But at the preview night Tuesday for Netflix Bites at Short Stories Hotel on Fairfax, it was clear that the seriously delicious menu for the three-month pop-up, inspired by the streamer’s food programming, was no laughing matter. Imaginative cocktails from mixologists, like “Drink Masters” contestant Kate Gerwin, got guests in the mood with concoctions like the Oaxacan on Top of the World, while Netflix co-ceo Ted Sarandos mingled with the chefs. Netflix’s VP of Live Experiences Greg Lombardo welcomed guests, explaining, “We’re always focused on bringing our fans closer to the stories that they love.

Four writer-participants for a DreamWorks Theatricals emerging writers program have been selected to help develop new musical adaptations of DreamWorks Animation films for the theatrical licensing agency Music Theatre International’s catalogue.

The program is sponsored by DreamWorks Theatricals and Mti in partnership with NBCUniversal’s Global Talent Development & Inclusion team. Beginning this month, the selected writers – Krista Knight, Joriah Kwamé, Veronica Mansour, and Kate Thomas – will participate in projects intended for the Mti catalogue.

The program also provides access to various industry professionals and agents via roundtable discussions, master classes, and individual meetings to advance career development.

Eric Binford, the protagonist (antagonist?) of Fade to Black (1980), loves movies so much, he is wholly subsumed by them. When not working in a Los Angeles film distribution center delivering prints to various locations, his life revolves around watching films on a projector in his room, or on TV, or reluctantly sharing a film at the theater with a crowd. Eric, played by Breaking Away’s Dennis Christopher, has no need for human interaction—the shadowy figures in the flickering lights are his only allies.

For those unfamiliar with Fade, it tells the simple tale of a lonely young man with an already tenuous grip on reality whose overwhelming passion for film leads him down a vengeful path of retribution against those who’ve wronged him. Dressing up as his favorite characters from filmdom (Dracula, The Mummy, Hopalong Cassidy, Cody Jarrett), Eric lays to waste those who come between him and his celluloid dreams.

This year’s Venice film festival gets off to a disastrous start with a fact-based thriller that’s light on thrills

Top of the world, ma? The Venice film festival has opened with the true story of an attempt on the summit of Mount Everest in 1996, directed by Baltasar Kormákur who made the action-thrillers Contraband and 2 Guns. It’s a disaster movie that isn’t a total success. Everest is an oddly subdued drama with plenty of ice, snow, beards, mountains, men shouting desperate instructions at each other through their snowy beards, above the deafening high winds. There’s a bit of don’t-look-down vertigo as our climbing heroes are expected to cross crevasses using ladders they appear to have bought from B&Q. And all the while the tremulous womenfolk are pining and whining on the end of a radio receiver or telephone while the heroic guys battle the elements.

Since John Pope first appeared on “Falling Skies” in the series’ second episode, he has been one of the TNT show’s most fun and fascinating characters to watch. In an alien invasion apocalypse, he’s the bad boy looking out for number one, a cynical nuisance, a thorn in Tom Mason’s side. But he’s also been a vital member of the 2nd Mass, loyal to his gang, a badass alien killer, and he even has his heart of gold moments. He’s sometimes an anti-hero character we love to hate — whenever he’s causing trouble within the 2nd Mass as if a war against aliens isn’t trouble enough — but he also comes to reveal struggles and a past that makes him rather relatable. Played by Colin Cunningham, Pope got a love interest in season 4. Sara (Mira Sorvino) has changed Pope, and that’s clearer than ever in the most recent episodes.

Ah, the 1990s. The decade that brought us The Lion King. Titanic. Quentin Tarantino. That wordless bathroom scene in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. Angelo Badalamenti's Twin Peaks. Duel of the Fates from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. In the Mood for Love.

It was a good 10 years for film music, no doubt.

But scratch the surface of 1991 through 1999 and there are tons of good scores ready to spring a surprise on your ears. Some were attached to sorely underrated movies, others were overshadowed by wildly successful ones, and some have simply been forgotten in the passage of time.

Robin Thicke, "Blurred Lines" (Interscope)

Robin Thicke is having quite a moment.

After spending most of his decade-long recording career as one of R&B's journeymen – a sensuous crooner with the occasional crossover hit – Thicke has exploded into pop's consciousness with "Blurred Lines": It's the undeniable song of the summer and may turn out to be the single of the year. The Marvin Gaye-inflected, sex-filled dance groove (and its naughty video counterpart) has become a cultural flashpoint, sparking parodies, commentaries, endless radio replays and an unknown number of hookups.

It's a triumph for Thicke, to be sure – but tricky part of having success is sustaining it. It's not something Thicke has managed that well through the years, particularly after scoring with 2007's smoldering "Lost Without U." Will "Blurred Lines" end up being a transcendent, but very singular moment for the 36-year-old singer?

If it does, it won't be because of his music.

Normally, the simple pleasure of watching Danny Huston chew the opulent-looking scenery of Magic City is enough to get me through most episodes. In fact, the scenery Huston is so fond of gnawing on and his explosive delivery as Ben ‘The Butcher’ Diamond are often the two best things this occasionally languid series has to offer. And as single episodes go, ‘Sitting on Top of the World’ is in no short supply of wholly amazing Danny Huston line readings and the kind of intricate ’60s scenery that likely sold the show in the first place.

As Robin Thicke continues his quest to nab the song of the summer, the singer has announced his sixth studio album will be released on July 30.

"Blurred Lines" is currently enjoying a run at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the album of the same name will serve as a follow-up to 2011's "Love After War." In addition to T.I. and Pharrell, who appear on Thicke's lead single, Kendrick Lamar will duet on a track called "Give It 2 U."

"The album is called 'Blurred Lines,'" Thicke said during a recent appearance on Power 105.1's "The Breakfast Club." "I've realized as I've gotten older that we all think we're living either in a black or white world, or on a straight path, but most of us are living right inbetween those straight lines. And everything you thought you knew, the older you get, you realize, I don't know nothing about this.

Raoul Walsh’s White Heat stars James Cagney as yet another gangster (Cagney being known for other films such as The Public Enemy and Angels with Dirty Faces), Cody Jarrett. Cody runs a gang of criminals that have recently killed four people during a train robbery. When the police come close to catching his gang, Cody admits to a lesser crime and is sentenced to one to three years in prison. He worries that gang member Big Ed (Steve Cochran) is trying to take over and decides to break out of prison.

Released in 1998, "Sittin' on Top of the World" was a major success for Rimes, hitting No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and going platinum. The album gave Rimes hits such as "Commitment" and "Nothing' New Under the Moon."

Releasing her first studio album at the age of 13, the now 30-year-old Rimes is set to release a new album, "Spitfire," next month.

The singer's personal life has been the subject of much media attention in recent years. Rimes married actor Eddie Cibrian in 2011 after she and Cibrian began an affair while married to other people. Rimes has taken to responding to the media buzz on her Twitter page, often attempting to laugh off the scandalous rumors.

With the festive season approaching, here's a rundown of 10 all-time classic Christmas movie soundtracks.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, a sure sign that people will soon start ranking, once again, the best Christmas movies of all time--a crazy thing to do, because we all know it’s still Die Hard. But what about film music? From Vaughn Monroe serenading the end of John McClane’s adventure to Danny Elfman’s Nightmare before the big day, soundtracks are a big part of that seasonal feeling.

And so, as December draws in, here are the top 10 Christmas movie soundtracks of all time. (Probably.)

Tim Burton plays the jokey 'darkness' of his style to totally predictable effect in his latest oddity-comedy

The new film from Tim Burton does something that is rarer than you might think. It whelms you. Its effect is whelming. The film delivers precisely the satisfaction a sympathetic audience could expect from its director, not one degree above or below. The audience is whelmed. It's a whelmer. Tim Burton drives it straight down the middle of the anticipation fairway. You will be whelmed by the Goth style, whelmed by the CGI olde-worlde darkness of the Liverpool-in-1760 prologue, whelmed by Johnny Depp's vampire makeup and quasi-English accent and occasional funny line, and intensely, almost sensually whelmed by the fact that Helena Bonham Carter is in it. This really is a reasonably, moderately, whelmingly good film.

It is based on a cult Us TV show from Burton's childhood that never made it...

Composer Danny Elfman has written the score to Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows," starring Johnny Depp, natch. It probably sounds a little like the music featured here (though you can actually hear it here). However, what's likely a bit more interesting than the original score, is the soundtrack to Burton's comedic '70s-set vampire tale based off a 1960s ABC soap opera about a family tormented by strange supernatural occurrences.

Due May 8th via WaterTower Music, the 11-track various artists soundtrack features Iggy Pop, The Moody Blues, The Carpenters, T-Rex, Alice Cooper and even Johnny Depp doing a spoken-word version of the Steve Miller Band's "The Joker."
