Classic tale of love, family and life. Spectacular performances by all. Very romantic but not sappy. A must see if you are the romantic type or a Holly Hunter fan.
Widower Honora Swift (Gena Rowlands) lives on an island in Puget Sound with her mother, daughters Georgie Symonds (Holly Hunter) and Clare (Frances McDormand). Georgie is married to Nick Symonds (Bill Pullman). The ladies have always stayed behind while their men go off to their jobs. Nick flies to Seattle every day. The marriage hits a few road bumps. Georgie falls for photographer Mark Constable (Julian Sands).
This TNT movie has plenty acting power. Maybe it has too much and the movie feels scattered among them. This wants to be about the marriage and it also wants to be about the mother daughter relationships. The tension could be higher especially with the marriage. The story keeps pulling back from blowing it all up. It is still nice to see all these great actors.

It's a story about families and relationships, sounds cliche yet it delivered a deep and enjoyable entertainment. When a family wound or trauma is overcome there's nothing more that can give happiness in life. Understanding and forgiveness is hard but brings long term rewards. Even if the story could feel sappy at times since there were those reactions that lead to happy ending, it still proves that a harmonic family living is something people desire deep down if we are honest with ourselves. This simple yet deep movie reminded me that a life (or God) gives you set of cards and it is up to you how you play with them. A warning: The right choices may lead to happiness. It is scary but this is exactly what Bible teaches us. How to give love and receive love. A mastery of those, may lead to a meaningful life. The stage can be the world or just your own family over generations.
