I remember watching this show after school in Hollywood, Florida back in the early 1970s. Along with Kimba (which I recently saw on DVD at Walmart) and Speed Racer, Prince Planet was one of my favorites. I remember making a medallion like his with a big "P" on it. It was two-sided with a full power "P" on one side and a lowered powered "P" on the other. I used a marker to color in the power levels. I would run around pretending to fight villains and getting weaker as my power level dropped. The show was cute, innocent, but had a great message about faith in others, acceptance, and friendship. These things are severely lacking in today's cartoons.
My Favorite all time cartoon was Prince Planet, with Astroboy a close second, then Marine Boy, 8th man. What I loved the most was that Prince Planet was innocent... Pure virtue and everything good. When a moral conflict arose where all options were less than perfect, he always chose the closest to perfection. Totally brave and sincere and only used his powers when needed even though in his heart he didn't want to use his powers, but instead he just wanted to be a boy. Now tell me, can you get anymore wholesome than that... Oh BTW! when he wanted to kick Butt, no one could stand in his way. He was awesome in battle. For those who don't know, Prince Planet is now playing online. I don't know if it's against the rules to post the site that plays movies online or not, but the site has been advertised on TV for awhile and is legit.
I remember Prince Planet on TV in Chicago in the mid-70s. My best friends and I were all in love with the main character. I have never met another person who remembers this show, so I'm glad to have found this information! I'd started thinking I was losing it!! :) I used to watch this along with Battle of the Planets and Speed Racer. I wish they would make some comebacks on Boomerang! these were great shows with good characters and usually some morally uplifting message. The Banana Splits were on around the same time, and those have started showing up on cable - Boomerang. I love to see those now and sort of relive the halcyon days of my childhood!
I used to watch Prince Planet in Miami around '70 or '71. My friends and I were obsessed with it. I have asked many people around my age if they ever watched the series, and get a lot of puzzled looks. I don't really remember too many details about the pendant itself, but I do remember he encircled it with his index fingers and thumbs to activate his powers. His worst foes were the Warlock whom I recall as kind of resembling the Joker from Batman, and Quagmire who was a huge man in a black suit that would fling a saw blade at our hero. One time the blade boomeranged and sawed Quagmire's head off, and he regenerated a new head. Does any of that ring a bell with anyone?
Can anybody remember the way that Prince Planet's medallion would be so low on energy and that his ultimate destruction by his enemies was always narrowly avoided be the professor in some laboratory managing to re-energise his medallion and thus saving the day. I can also vaguely remember lightening, laser type bolts coming from the medallion. I'm not really sure if his opponents were killed or temporarily paralyzed. Could somebody please help me with this?

- TriviaOne of many (and one of the first) Japanese anime television series that became popular beginning in the 1960's. Anime, based on the Japanese-style of manga comic books and novels, had a characteristic animation style that usually featured round faces, overly large eyes, choppy animation (apparently due to lower frame rates than 24 or 29.96 fps which is typical for historically smooth animation), inaccurate visual speech patterns, and unusual facial expressions that accompanied short vocal outbursts of surprise or anger. Anime, because it was Japanese dubbed into English, did not have well synchronized audio-video in its speech, similar to the soon to come at the time big martial arts movies featuring greats such as Bruce Lee. Other anime series from this time-frame that also share most if not all of the above animation traits include Astroboy, Speed Racer, and Kimba the White Lion, among others. Many of those same animation styles can also be found in Japanese-based video games including the Final Fantasy series of video games.
