    An empty experience

For reasons unknown even to myself I'm sort of like this film's biggest enthuasist over here giving a quite high note when it didn't deserve. There was some things and elements in "Nosferato in Brazil" that I enjoyed it.

It's violent, chaotic and specially confusing. But the main issue is that the film drags on and on with the lead characters played by famous late poet Torquato Neto and the girls around him, vampire creatures who walk around planning attacks on new victims and then things change and escalate in a surprising manner.

Considering that back then, in the 1960's, the horror genre was growing with Zé do Caixão (Coffin Joe) and other B-movie auteurs this is considered an underground project that had its fair share of viewers and launched its director's career. But the movie is festival of boredom for the most part since it's silent, filmed in Super 8 (I think) giving the impression of being a home video project rather than an appealing work for a major audience. It's harmless in some ways, it's just a poorly executed thing destined to curious minds. There's nothing there except some bits of violent moments that don't cause much effect these days. 4/10.

Who can explain what is this ?!

I like surreal things, I like Lynch's early films and short animated bizzare stuff, I like Svankmajer's surreal animations ... but this - what is this ?! I can't figure out what author tried except to show bunch of sequences without any sense ... or I just can't find any meaning in this ?

    Sorry, but I don't.

    1/10 from me ...

I Don't Think It's Meant to Make Sense

    Nosferato no Brasil (1970)

    ** (out of 4)

Ivan Cardoso's first film has a vampire (who looks like a hippie) going around Brazil and biting woman barely wearing any clothes.

If you're familiar with any of the later work of Cardoso then you already know that he likes to blend horror and comedy. His most famous film is probably THE WEREWOLF IN THE AMAZON with Paul Naschy but this here, due to its title alone, is also quite popular. I doubt too many people other than the director actually know what it's about but the plot is rather slim to say the least and more than anything I'd say this is meant to not make a lot of sense. I'm sure the Coffin Joe films that were popular around this time were also an influence. With that said, as long as you don't take this too serious then you should be mildly entertained by it. It was obviously done on a very small budget and most of the shots appeared to have been one take only. The film isn't a masterpiece or even very good but it's mildly entertaining.
