Is there any contemporary actor more iconic than Nicolas Cage? Instantly identifiable and beloved by both mainstream audiences and cult aficionados, it’s hard to believe that there was a time when Nicolas Cage wasn’t considered a bankable leading man. While movies like Raising Arizona and Moonstruck established him as a quirky lead, in 1990, he made an action movie called Fire Birds, which was like Top Gun with helicopters and whiffed at the box office. He had a solid hit as a romantic lead in Honeymoon in Vegas. However, in 1995, the same year he delivered an Academy Award-winning performance in Leaving Las Vegas, he was still considered so minor of a star that David Caruso took top billing over him in their remake of Kiss of Death – which – by the way – was another flop. However, that all changed when uber producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer decided Cage had potential as an action hero,...

Nicolas Cage is continuing to expand his wild filmography by dipping his toes into the western genre. But, it wouldn't be a Nic Cage movie without the actor either delivering one of the most groundbreaking, emotional performances of his life, or one of the most bonkers caricatures you've ever seen. For his new, wild western, Gunslingers, Cage has characteristically chosen the latter.
The first trailer for Gunslingers has now been unleashed, and it's safe to say that Cage is a certified scene-stealer once again. The film is written and directed by Brian Skiba (Guns of Redemption) and is set to be released on April 11. Alongside Cage, Gunslingers also stars Heather Graham, Stephen Dorff, and Scarlet Rose Stallone. Cage plays mad genius Ben, who is guided to a town named Redemption to confront their violent histories. The official synopsis reads:
"When the most wanted man in America surfaces in a small Kentucky town,...

Ladies and gentlemen, I implore you! Please bear witness to today’s Gunslingers trailer and revel in the action and unseriousness of this delightful preview for what looks like an off-the-wall Western starring Nicolas Cage, Heather Graham and Stephen Dorff.
Today’s Gunslingers trailer is the shot in the arm I needed. I’m a massive Nicolas Cage fan, especially when he’s most unhinged. Don’t get me wrong, I love his dramatic roles in films like Pig, Leaving Las Vegas, and Dream Scenario. However, allowing Cage to be at his Cageiest is a cure for what ails ya.
Brian Skiba directs Gunslingers from his own script. The story unfolds in Redemption, where reformed gunslinger Thomas Keller (Dorff) and a mad genius, Ben (Cage), are guided by a spiritual leader named Jericho toward vindication. While wrestling with his inner demons, Keller runs afoul of the Five Points Gang. The confrontation forces Keller’s hand,...

Did Mikey Madison win an Oscar for portraying a prostitute in Anora? (Photo Credit – AnoraFilm Instagram)
The 2025 Academy Awards came and went in a whirlwind, forging legacies for a slew of talents, though it’s the newcomers who galvanize the most intrigue with their ties to the golden statuette. Amid the night’s fervor, one victory stood out — a triumph that spotlights both a fresh face and a storied trope.
Mikey Madison, the 25-year-old dynamo from Anora, seized her first Oscar for Best Actress, outpacing The Substance’s Demi Moore in a twist few had prognosticated. The win, flanked by Anora’s haul of Best Picture, Director, and more, incentivized a floodlight on her nascent Hollywood path.
Maddison’s raw and unapologetic portrayal of the titular sex worker elucidated a character far from cliché, cementing her ascent with a cataclysmic bang. That win didn’t transpire without etching new stats...

Apart from his chart-topping music, Bob Dylan is also known for being quite mysterious. In the past, he has often left people guessing with different stories about his past. Over the years, he has shared several bizarre tidbits about his life. But the most unexpected detail of them all would definitely be the one he shared in a 1966 interview.

In this conversation, the singer casually suggested that when he landed in New York, he had to work as a male prostitute. Whether it was meant as a joke or an exaggeration of the situation, it surely left many with questions.
Is Bob Dylan’s male prostitute story true or just a joke?
Actors often dish out weird and often incorrect details just to get the media off their backs. It’s surely necessary to maintain a bit of privacy for themselves,...

In what was perhaps one of the most significant moments of the SAG Awards, Timothée Chalamet took home the award for best male actor in a leading role for his performance as Bob Dylan in the biopic-drama A Complete Unknown. The win was Chalamet's first major award, with the actor making history by becoming the youngest actor ever to win the SAG award for lead actor. In bagging the award, Chalamet surpassed Nicolas Cage's record from Leaving Las Vegas (1995).
The best actor category has historically been a big-name category, and Chalamet went up against several industry veterans, including Adrien Brody for his performance in The Brutalist, Daniel Craig for his role in Queer, Ralph Fiennes for Conclave and Colman Domingo for Sing Sing. If you thought predicting this year’s Academy Awards would be easy, the Screen Actors Guild Awards just proved otherwise. Voted on by more than 150,000 SAG-AFTRA members, the SAG Awards reaffirmed what has been true all season: Several major Oscar categories remain wide open with just one week to go before the ceremony.
Coming off a dominant showing at the BAFTA Awards, Edward Berger’s Vatican thriller “Conclave” took home the top prize for best cast ensemble. With victories at both the SAG and BAFTA Awards — two critical precursors — the Focus Features drama enters Oscar night in a strong position. This mirrors the trajectory of “Shakespeare in Love” (1998), which leveraged SAG and BAFTA only wins to upset presumed frontrunner “Saving Private Ryan” for best picture.
The biggest competition for “Conclave” still remains Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winning dramedy “Anora,” which surprisingly left the SAG Awards empty-handed. Star Mikey Madison,...

In a “simple twist of fate,” Timothée Chalamet has made history.
Chalamet won his first major awards precursor for his transformational performance as Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s biopic “A Complete Unknown.”
“I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness,” Chalamet said while accepting his award. “I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight. I’m as inspired by Daniel Day Lewis, Marlon Brando and Viola Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So I’m deeply grateful. This doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more fuel. It’s a little more ammo to keep going. Thank you so much.”

Nicolas Cage is an enigma of a performer and has been for quite a few generations now. Next to Willem Dafoe, Danny Trejo, and Hollywood extra legend Eric Roberts, he is one of the most employed men in the business. The result of being extremely employed and constantly working is a filmography that can only be described as a mixed bag. Cage has appeared in some of the most critically panned films of all time, from 2014's Left Behind to 2006's meme-worthy The Wicker Man, all the way to the much-maligned but surprisingly fun Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. Critics have had the upper hand for much of his late career, but there was a time when a Nicolas Cage film meant a surefire opportunity for awards season gold.

Why Did Nicolas Cage’s Wife Patricia Arquette Eat Garlic Before Kissing Ewan McGregor Onscreen? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)
Nicolas Cage and Patricia Arquette were a power couple in the late ‘90s when both were reaching the heights of their careers. But in their golden era, a movie rarely lacked intimate scenes, making the presence of a smooching partner a given.
Cage and Arquette were no exception either. Like Hollywood relationships, they inevitably faced the awkwardness of filming intimate scenes with co-stars. However, they had a unique method to ensure professional boundaries remained intact — garlic.
While promoting the second season of the hit show Severance with Adam Scott, Arquette disclosed her peculiar agreement in a First We Feast video. The Boyhood actress recalled adhering to the pact when filming a kissing scene with Ewan McGregor in the 1997 thriller Nightwatch. “I’m so sorry, but I told my husband [Cage] I was going...

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
Horror movies may not often get a whole lot of respect, critically speaking. For whatever reason, they are often treated as a lesser form of entertainment. It's only the rarest of rare genre offerings that can go on to become embraced both critically and commercially, with Jordan Peele's "Get Out" serving as a shining example from relatively recent times. That's an outlier though. One undeniable truth though is that these movies are a reliable backbone for Hollywood studios, delivering consistent profits against relatively low investments. Good movies, bad movies, it often doesn't matter.
Hardcore horror fans will tell you that the number of bad movies far outweighs the good in any given year. It's about searching for that diamond in the rough.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is one of the most hilarious and unhinged Nicolas Cage movies in recent memory. Released in 2022, this bizarre blockbuster premiered with an impressive 87% rating from critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Since then, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent has established itself as a must-see action-packed comedy film.
Though it's another one of Nicolas Cage's high-concept action movies, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a self-aware and self-deprecating adventure that depicts Cage at his best while humanizing his character. With plenty of humorous and ridiculous moments from the cast of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, even non-Nic Cage fans can enjoy this wacky and wild buddy comedy that's now streaming on Netflix.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent cast and character guide. Directed by Tom Gormican from a screenplay by him and Kevin Etten, the film breaks the fourth wall by having Nicolas Cage portraying a fictional version of himself — Nick Cage, an actor who can no longer land a major studio role and is in a lot of debt despite having starred in blockbusters like National Treasure. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent is a rare movie wherein an actor playing a version of themselves works on many levels.
The plot combines various genres and leans quite a bit into the buddy comedy aspect. It’s unclear where Gormican and Etten may have gotten the idea for the movie, but Cage certainly has no issue spoofing parts of his career and making meta jokes about the films he’s made and the movie industry at large. As the actor's resurgence continues, a recent Nicolas Cage hit is finding a new streaming home. Even before landing his Oscar win for Leaving Las Vegas, the actor had made a name for himself in the '80s with leading roles in everything from the teen romantic comedy Valley Girl to the Coen brothers' Raising Arizona. He would solidify himself as a household name with his work in the action genre throughout the '90s and 2000s, including Michael Bay's The Rock, John Woo's Face/Off and the National Treasure franchise.
For the majority of the 2010s, Cage infamously became better known for his work in critically panned direct-to-video movies, which he has since explained stemmed from encountering financial problems and taking on as many projects as possible to make up for it. He would begin to enjoy a career resurgence with the 2018 psychedelic horror movie Mandy and the crime drama Pig,...

A24 and Nicolas Cage proved to be a match made in heaven with their 2023 surreal comedy Dream Scenario. A24 is the auteur-driven studio best known for thought-provoking films like Everything Everywhere All At Once and Midsommar, and the actor with an eclectic resume ranging from Oscar-winning fare like Leaving Las Vegas and Adaptation to action classics like Con Air and Face-Off, were the perfect collaborators for writer/director Kristoffer Borgli's brilliant satire of celebrity culture.
Dream Scenario follows Paul Matthews, an unassuming professor living a mundane life with his wife and two daughters. Paul is a passive man, not particularly respected by his students, peers, or family, and he dreams of making a bigger impact. He unexpectedly gets his wish when random people worldwide begin having dreams about him. Initially, he basks in the attention and newfound fame this brings him, but they also come with unexpected, drastic consequences.

Sean Penn may not be the first actor who comes to mind when thinking over the history of funny movie performances. Indeed, Penn’s reputation is as the most serious of thespians, and his is a well-earned one, built upon award-caliber work in heavy-hitting dramas like Dead Man Walking, Mystic River and Milk. But in fact, Penn’s long and impressive filmography is peppered with roles that have seen him shifting gears from drama to comedy, sometimes with memorable results.
Penn’s co-starring turn with then-wife Madonna in Shanghai Surprise may have been an early disaster, but the star kept on scratching his comedy itch nonetheless, starring alongside Robert De Niro in the remake We’re No Angels. Letting his funny side out finally paid off for Penn in terms of awards love, when his performance as a self-absorbed jazz guitarist in Woody Allen’s Sweet and Lowdown garnered an Oscar nomination.

Nicolas Cage’s career trajectory is one of the most fascinating in film history. After breaking out in a series of films directed by his uncle, Francis Ford Coppola, Cage became one of the most ambitious dramatic actors of his generation, even winning an Academy Award for Best Actor for his heartbreaking performance in Leaving Las Vegas. Cage spent many years starring in blockbuster action films like The Rock and Face/Off, but the quality of his output began to go downhill after a series of disastrous projects that were heavily ridiculed. Although he became most closely associated with over-the-top moments of overacting, Cage delivered a beautifully intimate performance in the 2021 drama Pig by director Michael Sarnoski.

There's nothing like geeking out over heavy metal music together to break the ice before shooting a film. In a recent interview with MovieWeb for his action-horror film Werewolves, director Steven C. Miller recalled his 2017 collaboration with Nicolas Cage in the action film Arsenal and how, much to his surprise, he and Cage found common ground in metal. “I don't know that many people would know that Nicolas Cage is a huge metal head,” Miller told MovieWeb in a recent interview.
“I think in our first conversations, we were just talking about metal bands for like an hour. I don't know that we talked about the movie that we were going to do. He’d flown me in to meet with him, to sort of see if I was the guy for the job.” Miller went on to say:
“We talked about music for the first hour before we even got to the movie.

Since making his acting debut in 1982's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," Nicolas Cage has gone on to amass an astounding filmography that has never stopped evolving. He's admittedly made some baffling choices as an actor, starring in the infamously terrible "Deadfall" (which has a zero rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and the 2019 dud "Grand Isle," whose flaws have more to do with its storytelling than Cage's performance as a haunted war veteran. Really, we would be here all day if I were to list the scores of middling-to-awful straight-to-video flicks Cage has starred in, yet the actor never, ever phones it in and shows up to every role with an intensity that is tough to match.
Being one of those actors who shines brighter than ever when given layered, intriguing roles to work with, Cage has delivered several unforgettable performances worth rooting for. For starters, we have the lesser-known...

Few films restrained Nicolas Cage from going all-out with his performance. Fans finally saw him unleashed in 2018's Mandy, a visceral homage to 1970s grindhouse movies.
Nicolas Cage's revenge movie Mandy is streaming on Hulu until Nov. 16. It's one of Cage's darkest films to date, in league with 8Mm, Leaving Las Vegas, and Longlegs. Directed by Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow), Mandy follows Cage's Red Miller as he exacts gruesome vengeance on the demonic cult that killed his girlfriend. The movie has a growing following among fans of the horror, dark fantasy, and grindhouse genres for its arthouse style, abstract imagery, and gritty violence. Critics and audiences also praised Cage's over-the-top performance, which complemented the film's feverish, viscous narrative.

Quentin Tarantino picks his favorite Nicolas Cage movie of the last five years, and it's the perfect choice. Tarantino is one of the most influential and accomplished auteurs of his generation, having written and directed nine feature films, winning two Academy Awards, with a tenth and final film on the way. In addition to being an accomplished auteur, Tarantino is also a serious cinephile who frequently shares his unfiltered opinions on film, recently praising the critically-panned Joker: Folie Deux and revealing that he refuses to watch Denis Villeneuve's Dune movies.
Now, on his Video Archives Podcast (via JoBlo), Tarantino revealed one of his favorite Nicolas Cage movies of the last few years Pig. The director says it's one of the actor's best movies of the last five years, and went on to suggest it's also one of the best movies he's seen in the last five years. Read his...

Nicolas Cage is one of America’s greatest movie stars, and certainly its most distinctive one. His singular genius will be the subject of a retrospective festival at Metrograph, the wonderful independent movie theater in New York City.

It has been quite some time since we’ve seen one of Nicolas Cage’s movies earn an Oscar nod, but he’s certainly no stranger to winning the prestigious award. Despite being one of the older veterans in the movie game today, Cage has also been more active than some actors who regularly receive nominations for some of the biggest awards in the industry.

Nicolas Cage is no stranger to the horror genre. Hell, hes no stranger to any genre. His bizarre range stretches from the ultra dramatic in Leaving Las Vegas to the hilariously over the top in Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans. Sometimes, he is the craziest part of a movie that is already truly bizarre, and this is exactly the case with Richard Stanleys body-horror epic, Color Out of Space. This H.P. Lovecraft adaptation is full of atmosphere, terror, and madness, making it a playground for the unpredictable actor, and a delight for cosmic horror fans.

It’s the world’s oldest profession, but it’s also the world’s most stigmatized profession. Sex work, be it prostitution or erotic dancing or pornographic acting, is a reality of the world, an umbrella of occupations that have never gone away or been snuffed out no matter what laws or restrictions society has tried to impose against it. Far from it: as the world has lurched forward into the online era, sex work has fully gone online, with subscription platforms and websites allowing for new ways for those in the field to make their bucks.
While people who do sex work come in all shapes and sizes, on film, sex workers tend to be painted with a reductive, dehumanizing lens. Often, they’re not really characters at all, but window-dressing in crime movies or — most appallingly — dead bodies in films about killers that don’t particularly provide them with much backstory.

Nicolas Cage’s net worth should’ve come to par with some of the A-listers in Hollywood. At one point in his career, Cage was one of the highest-paid actors in the industry, earning $20 million each for Gone in Sixty Seconds, Windtalkers, and National Treasure. However, his net worth came crashing down when his spending habits got out of his hands.

In Michael Samoski's 2021 drama "Pig," Nicolas Cage plays a quiet, bearded recluse named Rob Feld who lives in a remote woodland cabin with his unnamed pet pig. The pig is a skilled truffle forager, and Rob makes a living selling truffles to a restaurant supplier (Alex Wolff) who occasionally drives out to his cabin. Rob clearly has a dark past, but has seemingly found peace in the woods. One night, however, Rob is attacked, and his pig is stolen. Rob has to trek into nearby Portland to retrieve his animal friend, and, we learn, confront his past.
As the film progresses, we discover that Rob had unusual connections in the world of Portland's high-end restaurateurs, and that he participated in eatery-related underground fighting rings (!). He's also still in mourning over the death of his wife years before, which was the primary impetus driving Rob to become a recluse. More than anything,...

Nicolas Cage comes from one of film’s most esteemed families. His uncle is Francis Ford Coppola (“The Godfather”) and his aunt is actress Talia Shire. Not wanting to appear like his career was the productive of nepotism, when he started acting he took the name Cage from one of his favorite comic book characters, Marvel’s Luke Cage.
Cage’s film career started off quite auspiciously with a small role in the popular comedy “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” when he was just 18 years old. He followed that up with a lead role in the cult classic “Valley Girl.” Both films interestingly dealt with the life of teenagers in the Los Angeles suburbs of the San Fernando Valley.
For his third film Cage would finally agree to work with his uncle when he appeared in Coppola’s “Rumble Fish,” followed the following year by Coppola’s “The Cotton Club.

For his third film Cage would finally agree to work with his uncle when he appeared in Coppola’s “Rumble Fish,” followed the following year by Coppola’s “The Cotton Club.

Spider-Noir, a TV show by Prime Video, features Nicolas Cage as the aged detective in 1930s New York who used to be Spider-Man. Alongside Cage and Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Li Jun Li, and Abraham Popoola round out the promising cast of the upcoming show.
Spider-Noir is an upcoming TV show by Prime Video and has a solid cast to bring it to life. After the success of Sonys Spider-Verse franchise, the character of Spider-Man Noir is one whom creatives were keen to continue exploring. The character appeared as a supporting member of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verses cast of characters, before being mostly absent for its sequel. That said, his cameo in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verses ending teased more to come from the detective-inspired variant of the Web-Slinger.

Amazon MGM Studios has entered into a multi-year film partnership with Scott Stuber, the former head of film at Netflix. As part of the pact, the streamer and studio will finance and release movies from Stuber’s new production company under United Artists, a languishing label that once operated under the auspice of MGM. In its heyday, United Artists released movies like “The Pink Panther,” “Rocky” “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” “Network” and the James Bond films. The agreement calls for Stuber and his soon-to-be launched company to produce several films annually. They will be released both theatrically and via Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming service.
Stuber’s new company will be based on Amazon MGM Studios’ Culver City lot. The pact is a first-look one, giving Amazon MGM Studios the initial crack at the projects Stuber develops. In addition, Stuber will be involved in all projects released by the new UA.
