The concept of the story depends on your faith, as it is to do with re-incarnation, and geared more towards the Hindu religion.
The story did not appeal to me much; however, I watched the film for performances given by the actors and to see what the hype was all about.
I think the film was stolen by Rakhee's persuasive dialogues and Salman's macho, don't give a crap, character. Over the recent years Salman has really impressed me with his different roles. SRK like his early movies overacted too much, the fighting scenes were unconvincing and the dialogues were as they say very filmy. Kajol, unlike her recent films, was very annoying. Mamta, although very short, but gave one of her better performances.
All in all it's an over-hyped movie which won't be recognised as a classic. 5/10.

One of the best movies of Rakesh roshan ,great music, great action, superb acting ,it's one of my favourite even after 25 years
Durga Singh (Raakhee) has two sons, Karan (Salman Khan) and Arjun (Shah Rukh Khan) that are the joy of her life. When they are murdered, she prays to Kali to reincarnate them, and restore them too her, so that they can take vengeance on her enemy.
This is both a poignant story of a mother's love and faith, and an action packed tale of revenge. The music and choreography are average, but the costumes are spectacular. The fight scenes are well staged and exciting. The supporting cast is quite good. Khan and Khan are both great in their roles, and it is fun to see the superstars act together. (Though, in my opinion, seeing them together shows that Salman Khan is a superior fighter, dancer, and actor.) It's a solid movie overall, and will please fans of either Khan.

The reincarnation-revenge formula might be dated and seemed good if restricted to Subhash Ghai's cult classic KARZ(1980). But Rakesh Roshan being the craftsman of action-dramas he's been all these years utilised the limitations to optimum effect.
In regards to performances, Rakhee Gulzar was, well Rakhee Gulzar. Amrish Puri and Ranjeet prove it effortlessly why they're the most feared and revered villains in Bollywood history. The comic duo of Ashok Saraf and Johnny Lever was indeed effective. Kajol and Mamta Kulkarni don't get much screen time as such.
The marquee of this movie is that it remains Shahrukh and Salman Khan's only film till date. While the former had established himself as an actor of note with his resume reading KABHI HAA KABHI NAA, DARR and BAAZIGAR, Salman was considered more of a mass entertainer, although he had received acclaim for MAINE PYAR KIYA, BAAGHI and PATTHAR KE PHOOL. But this movie belonged to him start to finish, call it toughness which came a bit more naturally to him and was visible in non-action scenes as well.
In all the movie is a one time watch.

Karan Arjun was one of the best movie of its time.It was really cool. The plot was something crisp. The script was in-shape.SRK was good.Salman was average.I don't wan't talk about the lackluster acting by Kajol and Mamta. They really were a piece of junk. The songs were good enough. The music was nothing new.The directions were 'kind-of-good'.Overall, Enjoyable flick!

- TriviaThe super hit song 'jaati hoon mein" was actually an rejected tune, rajesh roshan found it as not perfect & incomplete song. Rakesh roshan was working out the songs of karan arjun, he saw a box full of rejected tunes, he insisted to hear those tunes, he liked the tune 'jaati hoon main' and he told he told his brother to record that song which he thought will be a big hit, rajesh refused as the song was not perfect, but had to record it as rakesh insisted. When the song was released it was a big hit, but still rajesh roshan was unsatisfied with this song.
- GoofsAbout 40 minutes after movie started, there is a scene where Thakur Durjan Singh (Amrish Puri) make a phone call to his friend Saxena (Ranjeet) and remind him of their friendship, right there boom mic operator can be clearly seen to the right hand side of the screen.
