Heng wen dao pi niu wen chai

A romantic comedy from Hong Kong where newly-wed Snow Kau Siu Suet (Anita Yuen) moves in with husband Kong Chi Wa (Emil Chau) and his mom Spring (Lydia Sum). Snow and Spring's relationship went from courteous to getting-on-each-others nerves. As a result, Spring concocts a plan to separate the couple and have her son marry her friend, a prim and mature lady in her book.

Lydia Sum takes center stage in the film and is definitely the highlight of the story, with her witty humor and strong acting skills. Anita Yuen shines quite a bit, but her chemistry falls flat with Emil Chau, whom I thought was quite an awful actor. Christine Ng plays Snow's friend, Barbara, whom I thought was quite annoying in the film with her sassy and Miss Thang attitude.

While the overall plot doesn't quite stand out, the movie was somewhat well-paced and entertaining. I got some laughs out of it, particular at Kingdom Yuen's performance as the funny nurse. It was fun seeing how everything unfolds when Spring meddles in her son's affairs and how Snow attempts to keep her marriage from falling apart.

This is a labored comedy about a young couple Wah and Snow, played by Emil Chow and Anita Yuen, who fall in love. By a technicality, they don't get married yet, but are living together in the house of Wah's mother Spring, played the recently departed Lydia Shum. At first tolerating each other, they begin to get on each other's nerves. The reason the film doesn't work is that there is little chemistry between any of the actors. Emil Chow and Anita Yuen make an attractive couple, but there is no real passion. While Lydia Shum can act, I've seen her in better films. It just doesn't work, it didn't hold my interest for ninety minutes. I don't recommend it.
