Real tears and real joy. Wonderful acting. Great film.

I don't want to give too much away. So I won't say much. But this is a wonderful film. The acting is amazing. The story is heartfelt. It's definitely worth seeing if you can find it. When I found some copies I bought a few just so I could give it away as presents.

    Anita Yuen & Sean Lau!

These two talented actors brought their A game to this movie. Not sure why this isn't a 10 star on IMDB - perhaps a lot really is lost in translation - but this film swept in the Golden Horse Awards in Hong Kong -- Best Film, Best Actor to Anita Yuen, etc. etc. This movie touched on so much -- the complexity of relationships, life in poverty, life as musicians, dreams gone astray, love and, most importantly, the appreciation of life.

Min's note at the end to Kit always gets me -- and I've watched this at least 100 times:

"If the most important thing in life is living, what challenge exists that cannot be overcome?"

    good movie, bad DVD

I liked this movie. However, the quality of the DVD had much to be desired. The sound was sub-par, though the picture was the real problem. It was quite dark, and it was difficult to make out what was happening on the screen. (I'm still not sure exactly how the movie ended.) The DVD I saw included English subtitiles, and had the title "C'est la Vie, Mon Cheri".

The quality of the DVD was a shame, because the movie was quite good. The music in the movie is also quite entertaining, especially as they explore different styles (from Jazz to Hong Kong pop). The movie itself starts off slow, then picks up speed, only to calm down at the end with the final 'tear-jerker' portion of the movie. If it were given an MPAA rating in the US, it would probably be G or PG.

One of the greatest HK movie love stories

I am writing this to raise awareness of this truly fabulous movie.

This movie comes from the genre prior to the HK handover in 1997 and flies with a flock of very outstanding HK movies known for the quality of the acting, engaging plot and very strong chemistries between the actors.

This movie, also known as Endless Love, is about a way to enjoy real life, find love in it and yet strive through all the struggles. It is about love, laughter, sadness, ups and downs all rolled into an enthralling story. It is a story unique to an Asian lifestyle so expect it to be quirky and humorous at times. In this movie, a broken hearted down and out songwriting artist moves to live in an apartment. Gradually a bond develops between himself and a young girl living downstairs. Until tragedy strikes again.

    A romance cinema classic

This movie is a classic, not just for Hong Kong cinema, but for the romance genre in general. The acting is well done, the story well written, and it has nice cinematography.

Anita Yuen gives a particularly good performance as the bubbly and always upbeat Min. She's a character you can't help but fall in love with yourself. Sean Lau also gives a nice performance as a disgruntled, abrasive, broke musician. Carina Lau rounds out the main cast playing the dejected "other" woman as she often does in Hong Kong movies.

If you are looking for a classic romance film that will tug at your heartstrings, (bring a box of Kleenex) then give this movie a try !
