Very well done in script and portrayal...

A very offbeat comedy that does a good job of portraying a different side of western life, experience and circumstance. The characters are very richly portrayed. It provides an original aspect that shows people of different natures subsisting together ,,such as found in real life, every character is a separate person with their own quirks and foibles.

    Right on eh?

I have watched this movie at least 4 times in the past couple of years and it always gets me laughing. It is Canadian film making at it's best. Pure back bacon and beer! If you can't find humor in this jewel you are either not Canadian, or you're dead. A classic!

Still charming after all these years; let's help preserve it!

Saw this at its 20th-anniversary screening at the 2013 Edmonton International Film Festival. It was great to see how well it has stood the test of time, and to see it on the big screen.

It's not a perfect film—it's a bit of a shaggy-dog tale, and some of the comic elements work better than others. That said, its pleasures vastly outweigh any of its flaws. Some fantastic comedic performances, most notably from underused First Nations actor Sam Bob and Battlestar Galactica's Michael Hogan.

The director, Francis Damberger, is selling DVD copies of the film in an attempt to raise the capital needed for a proper high-definition digital transfer of the film. Send a few bucks his way, snag your own personal copy of the movie, and help preserve this classic slice of Canadiana while we still can! For info, email him: dfcc.fran-at-gmail-dot-com.

The spirit guides of a young foreign man help him fulfill his dream of becoming a cowboy. Sort of.

This movie is not for everyone. It is full of subtle humor and deeper meaning. It is the epitome of 'Canadian' and I have yet to meet a non Canadian who 'gets' it.

For those that do get it it's a hilarious journey of a foreigner's dream to become a cowboy. He is aided and abetted in this quest by a strange collection of friends made from chance meetings and with the help of a couple of spirit guides.

The comedy is nicely balanced by sad and tender moments that are typical of life's lessons. Superb scenery of Alberta and an old first generation Honda Civic (circa 1977) round out this intriguing film.

My only surprise is that it has not reached cult classic status yet!

A lost gem from the prairies

This movie will have you quoting the characters immediately, seeing the world through their eyes, and shaping how you look at Alberta. Light hearted, funny, with a great story. And the best gosh darned Hereford cows I've ever seen in my life.
