Attention, MTV Generation, your ship has come in! Paramount+ is opening the floodgates to bring classic episodes of MTV Unplugged, VH1 Storytellers, and CMT Crossroads to the streaming platform. Over 50 episodes of MTV Unplugged were recently added, and there are dozens of episodes of VH1 Storytellers and CMT Crossroads to experience and explore.

According to Paramount+, many episodes “haven’t been available in 20+ years.” The MTV Unplugged offerings alone are a reason to consider getting a Paramount+ subscription, with iconic performances from bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Tori Amos, Staind, Korn, The Cranberries, Aerosmith, Alicia Keys, Duran Duran, and more up for grabs. Paramount+ is ready to rock — and they've released over 125 episodes of musical performances to its streaming service to prove it. Coming at you from the other Viacom-owned properties like MTV Unplugged, VH1 Storytellers, and CMT Crossroads, many of the episodes haven't been seen since they first aired. And with a list of performances that includes the likes of Elton John, Neil Young, Mariah Carey, Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, and even Nirvana's now-iconic November 1993 performance — which aired a mere seven months before the singer Kurt Cobain died — the list is a treasure trove for any music fan.

According to a press release from the streamer, more than 70 of the episodes have not been available to the public for more than 20 years. And, considering how much purging of content Paramount Global has done over the years, it's a relief to see that some things still get saved in the digital age.

Paramount+ has opened up its vault of classic MTV Unplugged episodes. Over 50 episodes of the live performance series have been added to the streamer, alongside dozens more episodes of VH1 Storytellers and CMT Crossroads.

According to a press release, many of the episodes “haven’t been available in 20+ years.” Coming from Seasons 1-8 and 10-13, the MTV Unplugged episodes include iconic performances from Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney, Oasis, R.E.M., Alanis Morissette, Alice in Chains, and Bob Dylan.

Meanwhile, the VH1 Storytellers episodes are taken from Seasons 1-9, 11-13,15, and 16, featuring standouts like David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Alicia Keys, and Elton John.

John Mulaney may have spoken best to the mostly wonderful randomness of the lineup for Friday night’s live “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert” special when, late in the show, he invoked the memory of “Saturday Night Live’s” much-missed music guru, Hal Willner. The comedian spoke about how the seminal figure in “SNL” music history would have loved many of the acts on the bill if he were still around. “He also would have hated parts of tonight, and I would have loved to talk with him about the parts he hated,” Mulaney added.

Truth be told, there wasn’t much of the nearly three-and-a-half-hour Peacock telecast that would have counted as a hate-watch for the average open-minded viewer, with the vast majority of the multiple-generation-spanning artists acquitting themselves. There were no train wrecks, although Bill Murray’s seemingly improvised schtick and a messy Post Malone/Nirvana crossover episode fell short of expectations.

In one of the most unforgettable moments of Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary concert, Nirvana’s surviving members—Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear—reunited to perform “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” with devoted Nirvana superfan Post Malone on lead vocals.

The surprise performance at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Friday night (February 14th) was introduced by SNL alum Adam Sandler, who exclaimed, “Ladies and gentlemen, Post Nirvana!”

Music biopics are the coin of the Hollywood realm and every time one is released, it always seems to be a hit, critically and financially. Unsurprisingly, filling a movie with hit songs sung by superstars is an easy recipe for success.

When exactly to release a music biopic can be a tricky proposition though. Bands and singers deserving of a biopic are often still alive and even performing, making the creative process that much more challenging. For a band like Nirvana, who is synonymous with 90s rock and the grunge movement, there will always be several hoops to jump through, from...

Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of William S. Burrough’s second novel, Queer, begins, shall we say, peculiarly. Sinéad O’Connor’s haunting cover of Nirvana’s “All Apologies” scores overhead shots of what we soon realize is Burroughs’s own writing space, every object alluding with cringey literalness to the Beat Generation author’s thorny mythos.

“Everyone is gay,” per “All Apologies,” and it quickly becomes clear that Guadagnino and screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes are content to stay on the surface of that knotty lyric and plenty more besides. Katy Perry is a beachside, motorcycle-riding baddie in the video for her new single “Lifetimes.” On Thursday, the pop star released the visual, which reveals the track list of her upcoming album, 143, and includes collabs with Kim Petras, Doechii, 21 Savage, and J.I.D.

The Stillz-directed video captures the singer during a recent trip to Spain, strutting on the shore in a bikini, riding a yacht with some friends, and throwing pizza to the crowd at a nightclub. The visual ends with a hungover Perry riding the train while drinking a bottle of water.

Limp Bizkit kicked off their North American “Loserville” tour (get tickets here) with support from Corey Feldman, Bones, N8NOFACE, and emcee Riff Raff on Tuesday night (July 16th) in Somerset, Wisconsin.

The 15-song performance featured many of the nu-metal pioneers’ biggest hits including set opener/closer “Break Stuff” (twice), “Rollin’,” and “Nookie” — the latter concluding with Fred Durst wishing his co-headliner Feldman a happy birthday. Only one song from their latest album, 2021’s Still Sucks, made the set.

Moments That Shook the Music: Kurt Cobain, a feature-length documentary directed by John Osborne and produced by Touchdown Films, airs Saturday, April 13, on BBC iPlayer and BBC 2, as part of programming entirely dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Cobain’s death. The Nirvana frontman died on April 5, 1994, in what was ruled a suicide.

“This documentary aims to demystify that moment and tell the story in a direct and accurate way with footage shot by the people who were there,” said Osborne in an interview with the BBC. “Kurt Cobain was the reluctant voice of a generation and his death has left a huge void. The only way to make sense of what happened is to make a testimony that audiences won’t be able to stop watching.
