Attention, MTV Generation, your ship has come in! Paramount+ is opening the floodgates to bring classic episodes of MTV Unplugged, VH1 Storytellers, and CMT Crossroads to the streaming platform. Over 50 episodes of MTV Unplugged were recently added, and there are dozens of episodes of VH1 Storytellers and CMT Crossroads to experience and explore.
According to Paramount+, many episodes “haven’t been available in 20+ years.” The MTV Unplugged offerings alone are a reason to consider getting a Paramount+ subscription, with iconic performances from bands like Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Tori Amos, Staind, Korn, The Cranberries, Aerosmith, Alicia Keys, Duran Duran, and more up for grabs. MTV Unplugged is a legendary series of performances in unique and intimate settings, typically with acoustic versions of classic songs performed for the first time.

Paramount+ is ready to rock — and they've released over 125 episodes of musical performances to its streaming service to prove it. Coming at you from the other Viacom-owned properties like MTV Unplugged, VH1 Storytellers, and CMT Crossroads, many of the episodes haven't been seen since they first aired. And with a list of performances that includes the likes of Elton John, Neil Young, Mariah Carey, Pearl Jam, Bob Dylan, and even Nirvana's now-iconic November 1993 performance — which aired a mere seven months before the singer Kurt Cobain died — the list is a treasure trove for any music fan.
According to a press release from the streamer, more than 70 of the episodes have not been available to the public for more than 20 years. And, considering how much purging of content Paramount Global has done over the years, it's a relief to see that some things still get saved in the digital age.

John Mulaney may have spoken best to the mostly wonderful randomness of the lineup for Friday night’s live “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert” special when, late in the show, he invoked the memory of “Saturday Night Live’s” much-missed music guru, Hal Willner. The comedian spoke about how the seminal figure in “SNL” music history would have loved many of the acts on the bill if he were still around. “He also would have hated parts of tonight, and I would have loved to talk with him about the parts he hated,” Mulaney added.
Truth be told, there wasn’t much of the nearly three-and-a-half-hour Peacock telecast that would have counted as a hate-watch for the average open-minded viewer, with the vast majority of the multiple-generation-spanning artists acquitting themselves. There were no train wrecks, although Bill Murray’s seemingly improvised schtick and a messy Post Malone/Nirvana crossover episode fell short of expectations.

In one of the most unforgettable moments of Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary concert, Nirvana’s surviving members—Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear—reunited to perform “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” with devoted Nirvana superfan Post Malone on lead vocals.
The surprise performance at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Friday night (February 14th) was introduced by SNL alum Adam Sandler, who exclaimed, “Ladies and gentlemen, Post Nirvana!”

The American road trip has long been a cinematic metaphor for self-discovery, transformation, and the pursuit of something just out of reach. But in Omaha, Cole Webley’s understated and deeply felt feature debut, the road is not a journey toward hope or reinvention — it is a slow, painful realization that there is no safety net left in a country that has failed its most vulnerable.
A father (John Magaro) takes his two children, Ella (Molly Belle Wright) and Charlie (Wyatt Solis), on a cross-country trip after losing their home to foreclosure. But Omaha is not about reinvention, nor does it indulge in the romanticism of new beginnings. Instead, it is a meditation on survival in a nation where policies have all but abandoned struggling families, forcing them into impossible choices.
This is not a sentimental film. Webley and screenwriter Robert Machoian strip away any grand gestures of redemption, instead capturing the intimate,...

There’s an insane amount of competition for the best-ever musical performance on Saturday Night Live. But if we crowned an all-time champ for best SNL mid-week promo by a musical guest, the winner has to be Nirvana. Their profoundly awkward team-up with NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley was one for the ages.
Nirvana was a seasoned SNL veteran by the time the group played the 1993 season premiere with Barkley. But when the band appeared for the first time in January 1992, the result was almost a “Titanic-level disaster,” according to drummer Dave Grohl in the new documentary Ladies & Gentlemen... 50 Years of SNL Music. The explanation for why the appearance was so harrowing is simple: Pure fear.
“I was absolutely fucking terrified,” Grohl admitted.

The Batman’s release in 2022 brought a new and interesting take on the character to the mainstream. This Bruce Wayne has only been on the crime-fighting scene for two years at the start of the movie. In this film, Bruce Wayne is young. Bruce is weird, the cops are going so far as to call him a freak. It shows us that Bruce Wayne was not always the hyper-competent and respected Bat modern media makes him out to be. At one point, Bruce was an awkward and sad 26-year-old who never showered and ruined the floors of the manor. And the girlies ate it up.
Tumblr especially took a shine to him, gifting him with such honorifics as ‘sadboy’ and ‘my poor little meow meow.’ You know when a character kind of always gives you the impression that they’re wet? That’s Robert Pattinson’s Batman. He’s still extremely smart,...

Every single ninja in the Naruto franchise is capable of using various types of justu during missions. Ninjutsu, genjutsu, and Taijutsu are the three main types of jutsu, and they are all highly effective during battle. Most jutsu are designed for combat, whether they are offensive or defensive in nature, but there are also several jutsu that are still effective, even though they are not designed for direct conflict.
The strongest of these non-combat jutsu fall into the genjutsu category, but most of them require some form of kekkei genkai. Some of these non-combat jutsu provide great support during missions, and one jutsu in particular is great for gathering information. One non-combat jutsu has the power to subdue Tailed Beasts, and another can affect the entire world.

Nirvana is one of the most important bands of the turn of the 20th century, not only because of the mythology of its band members, but because of their influence on rock, grunge, and music in general afterward, and yet there's never been a true biopic about the band. Music biopics are the coin of the Hollywood realm and every time one is released, it always seems to be a hit, critically and financially. Unsurprisingly, filling a movie with hit songs sung by superstars is an easy recipe for success.
When exactly to release a music biopic can be a tricky proposition though. Bands and singers deserving of a biopic are often still alive and even performing, making the creative process that much more challenging. For a band like Nirvana, who is synonymous with 90s rock and the grunge movement, there will always be several hoops to jump through, from...

In the early 1990s, a couple hundred members of the Cuban punk scene deliberately infected themselves with HIV in an effort to escape the severe economic depression that crippled the country after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The sick were sent to state-run sanitariums, where they had free access to food, medicine, and the rock music that Fidel Castro had banned since before they were born. The “Frikis,” as the kids from that subculture were called, hoped that a cure for the virus would be developed by the time Cuba’s “Special Period” came to an end and their home city of Havana was a livable place again. Such hopes were tragically misplaced.

Smino has released his new album, Maybe in Nirvana, just days after announcing it on Tuesday. Stream it below via Apple Music or Spotify.
Marking the follow-up to his acclaimed 2022 album, Luv 4 Rent, the project doesn’t have as many high-profile features. However, Bun B contributes a guest verse and there’s production from longtime collaborator Monte Booker as well as Kenny Beats and Thundercat (who also sings on “Hoe-nouns). Plus, there are reunions with Ravyn Lenae and Reggie.
In a statement, Smino elaborated on the care that went into Maybe in Nirvana, which is built around themes of love, self-discovery, and resilience. “This project is me exploring my own nirvana — my peace, my chaos, and everything in between,” he said. “Every song is a piece of me that ties into the bigger picture. I wanted to make something that feels limitless, like it could live outside of time.”

A little more attention’s been given to individual songs from Queer than its star duo’s score. Sinead O’Connor’s Nirvana cover that opens the film; the actual Nirvana song that punctuates a standout scene; and a track produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. But the duo’s 16-track album, their second this year for Luca Guadagnino, is now streaming, proving both a more sedate selection than Challengers and no less true to the ethereal, haunted tones that have made them cinema’s premier composers for, somehow, nearly 15 years.
As Leonardo Goi said in his review, “Queer makes no mystery of its artificiality. Mexico City is never called by its name, and Stefano Baisi’s production design makes ample use of matte paintings and soundstages to craft the rooms Lee skulks in and out of. In this nameless purgatory, everyone exists in a trance of drug-addled rootlessness––none more so than Lee,...

In 2005, when Marusya Syroechkovskaya was 16 years old and sure she wouldn’t make it, her life began to take shape. As a child in what she called the “Depression Federation,” she saw a generation filled with hopelessness. Friends of hers committed suicide or became addicted to drugs. When she met Kimi Morev, a character like Kurt Cobain who would become her partner and the subject of a documentary, her whole world changed.
The documentary follows a close journey of love, destruction, and life over 12 amazing years. From the first time they met on a grunge website to the end of their passionate relationship, Marusya carefully wrote down everything that happened. Their relationship went beyond a normal marriage because they loved music, were rebellious, and deeply understood each other’s inner turmoil.
Even though Marusya and Kimi came from pretty stable homes, they both got stuck in a cycle of hurting themselves.

“Queer” is almost here.
Luca Guadgnino’s latest, which stars Daniel Craig and is based on a slender William S. Burroughs novel of the same name, hits theaters on November 27, courtesy of A24. And there’s a brand-new trailer that you can watch, right now, below.
In “Queer” Craig plays William Lee, a Burroughs stand-in, who becomes infatuated with a young man named Allerton (Drew Starkey) while careening through the underground nightlife of Mexico City in the 1940s. (Lee is there to acquire a drug that he thinks will grant him psychic abilities – because of course he is.) Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville and filmmaker David Lowery also star.
Burroughs wrote “Queer” while waiting to be sentences for the murder of his common-law wife Joan Vollmer, who he shot in the head while attempting a “William Tell routine.” (This incident was dramatized in David Cronenberg’s adaptation of Burroughs’ “Naked Lunch.

Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of William S. Burrough’s second novel, Queer, begins, shall we say, peculiarly. Sinéad O’Connor’s haunting cover of Nirvana’s “All Apologies” scores overhead shots of what we soon realize is Burroughs’s own writing space, every object alluding with cringey literalness to the Beat Generation author’s thorny mythos.
“Everyone is gay,” per “All Apologies,” and it quickly becomes clear that Guadagnino and screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes are content to stay on the surface of that knotty lyric and plenty more besides. They would seem to think that plumbing depths is for snootily cultured queens. Queer prefers to oafishly stick, and not always unentertainingly so, to mincing façades, beginning with Daniel Craig’s performance as Burroughs avatar William Lee.
His bruiser face tarted up with dorky specs and his growly voice tending ever so slightly toward a lisp, Craig sashays his way around a fever-dream...

The late Kurt Cobain is known for his candor and honesty not only in his music but also in his interviews and shows. The former Nirvana frontman had been vocal about various issues, including the commodification of the music industry. The band’s music has always been regarded as anti-establishment.
A video of a 1993 interview with Nirvana members has gone viral. The video sees Cobain being presented with pop star Madonna’s concert pricing, which reportedly then cost $50. Cobain seemed to be shocked by the insane pricing and so were other members, who joked that they would charge their fans $25 just to “milk them”.

Close your eyes at any point during “Queer” and you might still smell the sweat and booze and stale tobacco wafting off-screen. If not quite as seductive as the Northern Italian summer of “Call Me by Your Name,” the world director Luca Guadagnino evokes here is no less transporting, sweeping us into the tequila dives and roach motels of mid-century Mexico City for a prolonged bout of same-sex yearning. And though adapted from the book (and life) of William S. Burroughs, this carnal film builds just as much on the filmmaker’s ongoing interest in unmet desire, finding greater ecstasy in the wait than in the act.

Jazz Band Creates Dazzling Cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” After One Listen to Original: Watch
Playing by ear is one of the necessary skills of a jazz musician — a skill that was put to the test when drummer Ulysses Owens Jr. and his band Generation Y were challenged with covering Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” after hearing the song one time.
For Owens — a Juilliard jazz instructor — it was his second time being challenged with covering Nirvana on the spot. He was tasked with spontaneously playing “In Bloom” earlier this year as part of Drumeo’s ongoing “For the First Time” video series, which we’ve covered on multiple occasions here at Heavy Consequence, including Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith’s viral performance of Thirty Seconds to Mars’ “The Kill.”
The new clip comes via Musora — part of the Drumeo family — and Owens is once again greeted with a Nirvana song he’s never heard before. In fact, it appears most of his bandmates...

Robert Pattinson’s The Batman was a game-changer for DC and Warner Bros.; it became one of the highest-grossing movies of 2022 and a commercial success. People loved the dark and gloomy portrayal of the billionaire superhero.
Matt Reeves, the director of the movie, revealed how he was highly inspired by the music of Nirvana during the making of the movie. Not only music, but the lead guitarist, Kurt Cobain, also inspired him to create a fresh template for Batman. He modeled various aspects of the rock star’s troubled life for his protagonist. Essentially, recreating the iconic DC superhero as a different version of the singer but with a more vicious addiction.

Sturgill Simpson has always chafed at the boundaries of neotraditional country, from covering Nirvana on 2016’s A Sailor’s Guide to Earth to delving headlong into Zz Top-style blues-rock on 2019’s Sound & Fury. The singer-songwriter’s eighth studio album—and first under the alter ego Johnny Blue Skies—Passage du Desir pairs a classic-rock sound with more traditional country signifiers like pedal steel and mandolin.
If the album’s arrangements allude to ’70s rock and country, Simpson’s lyrics reflect a new-age spirituality and interest in philosophy that nods to the counterculture of the era. Tracks like “Scooter Blues” and “Mint Tea” find Simpson yearning for a more peaceful life, unhampered by the pressures of the material world, while “Who I Am” rejects the need to settle for a single, unchanging version of oneself: “They don’t ask you what your name is when you get up to heaven/And...

Thirty years after the death of Kurt Cobain, the BBC will air a documentary that it says will “demystify” the Generation X icon and grunge music legend. Moments That Shook the Music: Kurt Cobain, a feature-length documentary directed by John Osborne and produced by Touchdown Films, airs Saturday, April 13, on BBC iPlayer and BBC 2, as part of programming entirely dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Cobain’s death. The Nirvana frontman died on April 5, 1994, in what was ruled a suicide.
“This documentary aims to demystify that moment and tell the story in a direct and accurate way with footage shot by the people who were there,” said Osborne in an interview with the BBC. “Kurt Cobain was the reluctant voice of a generation and his death has left a huge void. The only way to make sense of what happened is to make a testimony that audiences won’t be able to stop watching.

This documentary follows Dalton Harris whose storming 2018 triumph left him fearing failure and facing homophobic abuse, especially in his native Jamaica
This documentary, co-directed by Kim Longinotto and Scottish film-maker Franky Murray Brown, is a complex, intimate, sober look at someone making it in the music business, or maybe not making it, or maybe making it in something more important instead. It is candid about something rarely acknowledged in the life of any performer: the day-to-day, minute-by-minute dread of failure, of simply one day falling off the high-wire.
Dalton Harris is the superbly gifted young Jamaican singer who, in 2018, won TV’s The X Factor, after a struggle that included singing bizarre Nirvana covers on a cruise ship. The clip of him storming The X Factor audition with his version of Elton John’s Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word is almost worth the admission price. Dalton duly got a precarious year’s contract.

The behind-the-scenes detail that Natasha's childhood was potentially a secret even to her closest allies adds a heavy burden to her character and makes her sacrifice even more poignant. The exploration of Natasha's dark past in the Red Room makes Black Widow one of the most emotional films in the MCU, shedding light on her mysterious origins and the weight she carried throughout her life.
Black Widow’s opening credit scene gets even more heartbreaking thanks to an MCU behind-the-scenes detail. Natasha Romanoff’s highly-anticipated solo movie may have been released after her tragic Avengers: Endgame death, but the film was still able to build on a character that had years of history in the MCU. For a music journalist in the Nineties, there could have been no better phone call. Not long after Michael Azerrad hung out with Kurt Cobain for Nirvana’s first Rolling Stone cover story, Courtney Love reached out to ask him if he wanted to write a book about Nirvana. He agreed, and after nine months of breakneck work, he managed to get Come As You Are out in 1993, just in time to coincide with Nirvana’s Nevermind follow-up, In Utero.

A new deluxe reissue of Nirvana’s In Utero, is out today (October 27th) to coincide with the album’s 30th anniversary.
The original In Utero arrived after Nirvana had already become global superstars, and is thematically characterized by the band’s discomfort with their status, particularly from frontman, Kurt Cobain. Celebrating it on the occasion of its 25th anniversary in 2018, Consequence contributor Ryan Bray praised the album as “arguably the truest representation of what Nirvana was: a massive act with the principles and integrity of one half its size… It’s a difficult but ironclad document of artistic bravery.”
Now, the album is being honored in a whole new fashion. Among the 53 unreleased tracks are two full In Utero-era concerts, including the band’s final performance in Seattle, as well as six bonus live tracks recorded at various shows around the same time. Additionally, the album’s original tracklist,...

If you read that headline and thought to yourself, "Who the hell is Nate Bargatze?", then allow me to direct you over to Netflix to check out his stand-up specials "The Tennessee Kid" and "The Greatest Average American," or head over to Amazon Prime Video to watch "Hello World" from just earlier this year. They're all hilarious, and they'll make you fall in love with him.
Over the past few years, Nate Bargatze has become a new favorite on the stand-up scene thanks to his wry delivery and sensible yet hilarious perspectives. Making him significantly more appealing to a broader audience than some of the other big stand-up comics out there is the fact that Bargatze is one of the rare comedians who works clean and doesn't rely on any profanity, vulgarity, or blue material. However, he might end up getting a little more edgy when he stops by a...

From the moment he was cast, it was clear that Robert Pattinson would be a totally new kind of Batman. Rumors that the "Twilight" alumni would star in the latest leg of the franchise set the internet ablaze, but luckily, widespread speculation didn't hurt his chances of starring in Matt Reeves' 2022 film, "The Batman." Pattinson's audition went so well that it instantly landed him the part, but that wasn't all. His screen test was so effective that it directly inspired a scene in the movie.
Pattinson might seem like an odd choice for the typically stoic and raspy-voiced Dark Knight, but Reeves had a totally new vision for Batman. This Bruce Wayne would not be a buttoned-up businessman, blending in seamlessly to high society. Rather, he would be an emo overgrown teenager still reeling from the death of his parents. Bruce's status as an orphan has always defined him and motivated him to fight crime,...

One of the many resources you are able to farm on different planets in Starfield is Vanadium, an element found in nearly every weapon mod recipe that can give some of the best improvements to your guns. While this Rare Tier 2 mineral is found at several shops around the galaxy, it is always far better to harvest this resource on your own. The right Outpost placed on a world with Vanadium could grant you plenty of this material.
The four weapon mods that use Vanadium are the Recon Laser Sight, Medium Scope, Holographic Sight and Foregrip with Laser Sight. The Recon Laser Sight and Foregrip Sight both mark enemies while aiming with improvements to your weapon's accuracy. Meanwhile, the Medium Scope gives a 4x magnified view from a weapon, while the Holographic Sight offers a new view for better target visibility in Starfield.

The members of Boygenius made a bold statement during their performance in Tennessee on Sunday. The band’s Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker hit the stage dressed in drag queen makeup and looks as they made a statement about the state governor’s anti-lgbtq stances with a chant of “F–ck Bill Lee.”
The indie rockers donned wigs and leotards on the Great Lawn stage as they performed their sad songs — and even one of the cameramen did his job in a dress.
