    So nearly very good.

This film could have been a disaster, it could have been brilliant. Its saved from being disaster by a superb and gripping performance by the little girl, but its prevented from being excellent by confused direction. The power of the subject and the desperation of the little girl is deflected by the piece being filmed in a comedy style which left me feeling confused rather than moved. Watch it if only to see the superb direction and acting of the child star.

    A crime against humanity

It is indeed a crime against humanity that this girl has never acted again, aside from 3 seconds in Sleepy Hollow. Yes, yes there are so many brilliant one-time-actresses, Aileen Quinn, Ariel Besse, come to mind, but someones you just would like to see more of.

The short itself won the Palm d'Or, so what more is there to say? It adequately reflects the consumerism of today, which is all the more relevant NOW than 10 years ago, because of the rise of call-centers. Camera movements are interesting, the saleswoman is just exaggerated enough, so that the viewer is almost driven to the brink of exasperation. Although it would have been interesting to have made it more dramatic instead of comedic, the subject matter is too light to warrant effective drama. The comedy take on the subject, both allows for the full impact of the little girls don't-care-i-give-up attitude and delivery of the message, that marketing in present day society has gone haywire.
