Sundance Institute and Picturehouse have announced additions to the 2022 Sundance Film Festival: London programme today.

Alongside the twelve feature films, two short film strands and industry events previously announced, the festival will also present a new podcast strand with live audiences, including Girls on Film and Evolution of Horror; a 25th-anniversary screening of Love Jones, a special screening of Danny Boyle’s Shallow Grave; and a screening of Janicza Bravo’s Lemon chosen by keynote speaker, producer Christine Vachon.

The Festival will open up the spirit of Sundance Film Festival to UK audiences by screening three films at upwards of 25 cinemas across the country. A Love Song, Free Chol Soo Lee and Good Luck To You, Leo Grande will screen alongside recorded Filmmaker Q&As during the festival dates of 9 to 12 June 2022.

For the first time ever, the festival will include an exciting programme of live podcast recordings within the line-up.

On Giving Tuesday, November 28, beginning at 9 a.m., the Aspca is hosting its first-ever Aspca Giving Hope Facebook Live-a-thon on the Aspca’s Facebook page.

Special guests include actress Edie Falco, Mother of Dogs founder Allie Rizzo, as well as Travis Brorsen, host of Animal Planet’s My Big Fat Pet Makeover, Dan Schachner, America’s favorite Animal Planet Puppy Bowl “Rufferee,” and Jill Rappaport, an award-winning animal advocate and host of Animal Planet’s first-ever, Puppy Bowl Presents: The Dog Bowl. Influencers and senior pet advocates Chloe Kardoggian and Mervin the Chihuahua will also join the event.

The Facebook Live-a-thon will feature hourly livestreams spotlighting various Aspca life-saving programs including pet adoption, neonate kitten care and bottle feeding, kitten fostering, fighting puppy mills, and responding to natural disasters. The event will also feature adoptable dogs from Hurricane Harvey, senior pets, and animals involved in cruelty rehabilitation.

As a piece of filmmaking and storytelling, Arsenal is, at its best, marginally competent in the way that a basic-cable crime procedural might be. After more than 25 years, The American Pavilion’s student programs at the Cannes International Film Festival will have a record-breaking Festival, with more than 200 students confirmed to participate in the highly-respected program, and more international students than ever before. In addition, Director of Student Programming Michael Bremer announced today the addition of a Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity Intensive. Bremer will launch a pilot program with a group of students at this year’s festival in June.

Year after year, since 1989, The Pavilion’s student presence has increased in attendance and expanded in scope. Originally intended to give Film and Media students a window into the Festival, the Student Programs have evolved to now include Culinary, Hospitality and Event Management students, as well as Mba Business graduate students who work assignments with companies doing business in the Marché.

Under the direction of indie veteran Michael Bremer, The American Pavilion’s Business, Event, and Culinary programs have increased an average of 50% since 2012.

Bremer attributes the uptick to two key factors: “We announced our first-ever international outreach initiative during last year’s Festival, and I’m thrilled to report that our student body this year is more international than it’s ever been, with participants hailing from Canada, Hong Kong, Brazil, Panama, El Salvador, Dubai, Pakistan, and Kazakhstan. These students will witness in our Pavilion a microcosm of a much bigger dance going on just outside our doors, where film lovers from all corners of the globe come together to do business.”

More than 700 students from all over the world applied to this year’s various Cannes programs, with only about 30% of the applicants accepted. An additional 300 applicants are under consideration for The American Pavilion’s three smaller programs, the L.A. Intensive in August, the Venice Intensive at the Venice Film Festival, and AmPav’s newest program, the Cannes Lions Intensive in June.

“Additionally, we’ve made a conscious effort to increase enrollment in our Hospitality, Culinary, and Business programs to bring those student numbers more in line with the larger Film contingent that joins us every year,” Bremer added. “In fact, one of our culinary students from 15 years ago is now an educator at the University of Central Florida’s prestigious Rosen School of Hospitality, and returns this year in a faculty-mentor capacity with 16 students from Rosen.”

A group of 16 Rosen College students are participating in the Cannes Hospitality & Event Management Program through The American Pavilion, a 5,000-square-foot facility for the American film community at the Cannes International Film Festival. This is the first time that Rosen College students will participate in this program and as a result, Ucf will be the most represented institution in Cannes with the largest group of students.

“I’m excited about the Cannes Lions Intensive,” Bremer continued. “About six months ago we approached the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, often regarded as the world’s largest ad festival, proposing to develop for them what we’ve done for the Film Festival. With so many new attendees like Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Netflix, Amazon, and even Xbox upending traditional advertising paradigms, it’s vital that we in the entertainment sector sit up and take note. I will bring a pilot program of students this first year, and hope to increase the scope of our presence there in the coming years.”

The American Pavilion has been committed to giving opportunities to students and young filmmakers since its inception and their numbers have grown exponentially over the years. As a result of the Student Programs, past alumni are now gainfully employed throughout the industry at companies such as The Weinstein Company, DreamWorks, Paramount, The William Morris Agency, Sony, Industry Entertainment, ICM, 20 Century Fox, Universal and The Walt Disney Company.

Specific alumni of the internship program include: Morgan J. Freeman, (whose film Hurricane Streets became the first narrative film to win three awards at The Sundance Film Festival), Jeff Nichols, (director, writer, producer, Take Shelter and Mud), Alexa Alemanni, (SAG Award-winning actress), Hope Hall (White House Videographer), and Ron Najor , who recently produced award-winning SXSW film Short Term 12 and last year’s I Am Not a Hipster.

Thousands of family members, friends, co-stars, and fans flocked to James Gandolfini's funeral Thursday, June 27, to remember the 51-year-old actor who had a "huge heart and spirit."

The ceremony, held at New York City's Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, featured tributes from "The Sopranos" creator David Chase and Gandolfini's widow, Deborah Lin. Famous faces in attendance included Edie Falco, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Steve Buscemi, Alec Baldwin, Julianna Margulies, NBC News anchor Brian Williams, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

"My husband was an honest, kind, and loving man," said Lin. "He cared more about others than himself. He took the time to ask others in the course of the day how they were doing."

Thomas Richardson, Gandolfini's former assistant, said that care for others stretched to helping victims of Hurricane Sandy along the Jersey Shore, as well aiding disabled veterans through his longtime involvement with the Wounded Warriors Project.

Ben Affleck's "Argo" continues its march as the Oscar front-runner this awards season. Yesterday, the film was the big winner at the 2013 Producers Guild Awards, and tonight, it won the big prize at the Screen Actors Guild Awards taking home the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture trophy.

As predicted, Daniel Day-Lewis won the Lead Actor award for "Lincoln" while Jennifer Lawrence won the Lead Actress award for "Silver Linings Playbook."

Tommy Lee Jones won the Best Supporting Actor award for "Lincoln," and my fave, the lovely Anne Hathaway won the Best Supporting Actress award for "Les Miserables."

In the television category, "Downton Abbey" won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series and "Modern Family" took home the Comedy Series award.

Saying last night’s episode of SNL fell short of expectations would be the understatement of the year. Host Martin Short didn’t disappoint; his brand of physical comedy and impeccable comedic timing were refreshing, but he didn’t have adequate material to work with. As expected, the episode was star-studded — complete with cameos from other SNL alums and show favorites — but the celebrity guests acted as background props for the most part instead of contributing to skits. However, every time Paul McCartney took the stage, his tender voice wiped my memory clean of any mediocre jokes that preceded his stellar performance.

The Screen Actor Guild has announced the nominees for its 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards for outstanding performances in 2012 as well as the SAG Awards nods for outstanding action performances by film and television stunt ensembles.

Tom Hooper's "Les Miserables," David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook," and Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" led the pack with each film receiving 4 nominations including Best Ensemble.

The Big Budget Feature Drama award went to Kerry Barden and Paul Schnee for The Help. Mindy Marin and Kara Lipson (Associate) received the Big Budget Feature Comedy award for Crazy, Stupid Love. There was a tie for Television Series Drama. The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were held Sunday night at the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles. Freeman, here is a primer: The multi-hyphenate's debut feature, Hurricane Streets, starring Edie Falco and Brendan Sexton III (Welcome to the Dollhouse), was the first narrative project to win three awards at Sundance in 1997. Freeman went on to direct other films including Desert Blue and American Psycho 2 while launching a successful career producing reality television shows for MTV. His first series, Laguna Beach, spawned two spin-offs and two years ago, Freeman created 16 and Pregnant, which has already spun off another successful social commentary series for MTV, Teen Moms.

Movieline caught up with Freeman recently to discuss how 16 and Pregnant has been a "dream come true" for his inner storyteller, why the series hits home with so many audience members and how all of his projects -- scripted or not -- are related.

The state governor, Fidel Herrera Beltran, agreed to accommodate Gibson and relocate prisoners to make room for the actor/director's film crew - a decision which caused controversy with the loved ones of the incarcerated. Hundreds of family members staged a 24-hour demonstration outside the prison last month, December 2009 in a bid to stop the transfers until a new unit could be built to house the prisoners, but their efforts failed and 300 inmates were relocated last week.

The prison director confirmed the inmates had been sent to at least four different jails, leaving part of the facility empty for Gibson to use for his shoot.

Mel Gibson's new movie is already causing controversy in Mexico - relatives of inmates at a Veracruz jail have blasted plans to move prisoners to make way for the film shoot.

The Hollywood actor-turned-director has set his sights on filming at the Ignacio Allende prison in the eastern coastal city.

Veracruz state governor, Fidel Herrera Beltran, announced earlier this month that prisoners would be moved out of the jail to allow the film crew to work there.

Authorities previously planned to transfer inmates to a new prison in the town next year - but families fear their loved ones will be sent to facilities across the country if the jail is not built in time.

Hundreds of family members launched demonstrations outside the prison on Monday in a bid to stop the transfers until the new unit is ready. The 24-hour protest reportedly came to an end on Tuesday after the prison's director announced he had received no orders to transfer inmates and vowed families would be informed if any prisoners are to be moved.

Gibson previously filmed his 2006 epic Apocalypto in Veracruz and subsequently handed local authorities a $1 million (£690,000) donation to help build new homes for victims of 2005's Hurricane Stan.

The Sundance Institute announced Monday three late additions to the 2010 Sundance film festival program, running Jan. 21-31.

The new films are "It's a Wonderful Afterlife," a comedy directed by Gurinder Chadha and written by Paul Mayeda Berges and Chadha; "The Romantics," a comedy directed by Galt Niederhoffer, who adapted the script from her own novel; and "The Kids Are Alright," directed by Lisa Cholodenko, who wrote the screenplay with Stuart Blumberg.

All three films are world premieres that will screen out of competition, and all three filmmakers have had their work screened at Sundance in the past.

"When the opportunity to screen the latest films from three extremely innovative storytellers presented itself, we knew we could not deny our audiences," said festival director John Cooper. "As an added bonus, all three are alumni of the festival, so we are thrilled to be able to support them returning to Sundance with their newest work.

This week's releases arrive draped in a pervasive air of dissatisfaction -- Chris Rock's daughter is unhappy with her hair, a '70s feminist movement is unhappy with their options, and Jason Ritter and Jess Weixler are unhappy with each other. Elsewhere, British cultural icons are talked up while global corporate interests are torn down.

"After The Storm"

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Oscar-winning filmmaker and activist James Lecesne's decision to bring a production of the Off-Broadway musical "Once on This Island" to the storm-ravaged city of New Orleans was both obvious and inspired, with an extra layer of resonance provided in the casting of local kids affected firsthand by the disaster. Longtime music video director Marc Webb turned down a lot of horror remakes and teen comedies to make his feature debut with this unconventional recitation of a relationship that doesn't work out. Joseph Gordon-Levitt co-stars as Tom, a poker-faced field mouse rejected by the love of his (comically young) life, the idiosyncratic Summer (Zooey Deschanel), and neurotically dissects the minutia of their courtship as he struggles to figure out what went wrong.

Once described as a Misery -esque thriller when it was first announced, the film stars Mischa Barton ( Walled In ), Jessica Stroup ( The Hills Have Eyes 2 ) and Matthew Long.
