Universal TV has added three new actors to The Irrational, the NBC pilot starring Jesse L. Martin as Alec Baker, a professor of behavioral science who lends his expertise to an array of high-stakes cases.

Travina Springer will play Kylie, who is described as a creative free spirit and Alec’s younger sister, with whom he currently resides. Molly Kunz will take over as Phoebe, a protégé of Alec and conscientious graduate student pursuing her master’s degree in psychology. And Arash DeMaxi will portray Owen, a grad student of psychology with a playful sense of humor and natural curiosity.

Fox has formally set its 2022 fall schedule, with the long-gestating country music drama “Monarch” set to make its debut.

Fox’s announcements comes two weeks after the broadcaster’s upfront presentation on May 16, whereas other broadcasters announced their schedule the day of their presentation. However, with this announcement Fox is also announcing its fall premiere dates, which other networks have yet to do.

The full schedule can be seen below.

“Monarch,” which stars Susan Sarandon and Trace Adkins, was originally meant to debut back on January 30 after the NFC Championship game. Fox moved the show to fall approximately two and half weeks before the originally scheduled launch date.

“Monarch” will now debut on Sunday, Sept. 11 immediately after the NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings. It will then shift to Tuesday nights beginning Sept. 20 in the 9 p.m. slot immediately after returning medical drama “The Resident.

Exclusive: Magnum P.I. is looking to join an elite group of popular broadcast series that have overcome shocking cancellations to continue their runs. No one is commenting, but I hear talks are underway for NBC and/or USA Network to potentially carry the series starring Jay Hernandez.

An arrangement still is being figured out, but I hear one scenario is for new episodes to air on NBC while USA would run previous seasons of the action drama, a reboot of the 1980s series that starred Tom Selleck.

Spotify has launched a Netflix hub with soundtracks, playlists, podcasts and exclusive content related to programming on the streaming video service.

The hub is accessible to both free and premium Spotify subscribers in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland and India.

Spotify has 381 million monthly active users and 172 million subscribers in 184 global markets. Netflix, the leader in streaming video, has about 214 million subscribers.

The hub is seen as a joint promotional initiative and did not involve any money changing hands between the companies, which have collaborated in the past.

“It’s clear that after the credits roll, viewers are left wanting even more—and they come to Spotify to hear it,” the audio streamer said in announcing the hub. Within two weeks of the premiere of Squid Game on Netflix earlier this fall, Spotify said, listeners to its service had made more than 22,500 unique, themed playlists dedicated to the show.

For Léa Seydoux, the next 11 days will be a plunge: with four films in Cannes’ Official Selection, three of them in Competition, her festival itinerary will be relentless. Bouncing between premieres and press, she will be reunited with directors Wes Anderson and Arnaud Desplechin, with whom she’s worked before, for The French Dispatch and Deception, respectively. France marks her first collaboration with Bruno Dumont, while Ildikó Enyedi directs Seydoux in The Story of My Wife.

“It’s crazy,” Seydoux says of the flurry of activity. And she’s excited about what the work represents. “I’ve done one American film, a European film and two French films, and they are all so different. It’s exciting they’ve all been chosen by Cannes.

Adonis Creed may have found his next opponent. Reportedly, Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors is in negotiations with MGM and Michael B. Jordan to appear as the antagonist in the upcoming sequel Creed III. The deal has not yet been finalized as both sides are still working out the logistics of scheduling, as Majors has other projects already lined up. The report comes from Deadline and neither MGM nor Jordan have commented on the news.

Exclusive: MGM and first-time director Michael B. Jordan have set their sights on Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors to be his adversary in the ring for Creed III, sources said. Negotiations are underway for Majors to star in the film as Adonis Creed’s ring nemesis.

It’s the latest big movie role looming for Majors, who is coming off the first season of the critically lauded HBO series Lovecraft Country. His rise to A-list from his 2019 breakout in The Last Black Man in San Francisco has been meteoric. Majors most recently co-starred in the Spike Lee-directed Da 5 Bloods for Netflix, and he is set to play Kang the Conqueror in Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He will next be seen in the Jeymes Samuel-directed Western The Harder They Fall for Netflix, and Black Label Media’s Devotion.

Company, the Marianne Elliott-directed revival of the classic Stephen Sondheim-George Furth musical starring Katrina Lenk and Patti LuPone, will resume performances at Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in December, producers announced today.

The production will being previews on Dec. 20, with an opening night planned for Jan. 9, 2022.

Company is a show about connecting, about the necessity of having other people in our lives,” Sondheim said in a statement. “This past year, with its isolation, has reminded us all of that need for togetherness, so I’m happy that Marianne Elliott’s startling and exhilarating production is coming back to Broadway.”

Tickets for the musical go on sale tomorrow. Company played nine preview performances before the March 12, 2020 Broadway shutdown.

Chicago punk mainstays Naked Raygun have announced that they’ll be releasing their first new album in 31 years this spring, via Chicago label Wax Trax! Records.

Netflix is looking to make a real impact this year, with the streaming giant aiming to release a new movie every single week throughout 2021. One such release is director Zack Snyder's horror action flick, Army of the Dead, and while the movie has not yet been given an official release date, a newspaper clipping is currently doing the rounds on social media which seemingly reveals that the zombie outing will hit the streaming service in May.

While this has not yet been confirmed by Netflix themselves, the newspaper clipping, which highlights Huma S. Qureshi's role in Army of the Dead, seems pretty confident that the movie will be released in May 2021. How they were able to come by this information is unknown, but making the movie available in late May, around the start of the summer season, would certainly make sense.

An ambitions entrepreneur pioneers an online marketplace for drugs in the new trailer for Silk Road, set to open in select theaters and hit on-demand services February 19th.

Silk Road tells the story of the alleged founder of the titular website, Ross Ulbricht, and is based on the 2014 Rolling Stone story, “Dead End on Silk Road: Internet Crime Kingpin Ross Ulbricht’s Big Fall.” The film stars Nick Robinson as Ulbricht, and follows him as he turns his ingenious — if not also incredibly illegal — idea into a multi-million dollar underground marketplace.

Mark E. Smith wasn’t singing about Washington, D.C. when he bleated “Leave the Capitol! Leave this Roman shell!”, but the song — titled “Leave the Capitol” — is an apt rallying cry for the week the U.S. has had.

IATSE is hailing the Canadian government’s efforts to save its arts and entertainment sector during the Covid-19 pandemic through loans and wage subsidies in what is being billed as Canada’s largest economic relief package since World War II. The plan, which still is working its way through the legislative process, also would require international digital companies like Netflix to remit federal sales tax on digital sales.

On Monday, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland unveiled the Fall Economic Statement, which includes several significant policy announcements for Canada’s hardest-hit businesses, including tourism, hospitality and arts & entertainment. Altogether, the plan will amount to 3%-4% of Canada’s Gdp, she said, and includes money for coronavirus vaccines and assistance to help provinces and territories improve Covid-19 infection control in long-term care facilities, as well as support for lower- and middle-income families.

Max Winkler’s “Jungleland” is a throwback to the kind of character-driven, road movies that Hollywood hasn’t made much since the glory days of the 1970s moviemaking.

It’s the story of two drifter brothers who are so desperate to escape their dead-end lives that they accept an offer to ferry a young woman (Jessica Barden) across the country to a degenerate criminal. The film, which opens Friday, stars Jack O’Connell as Walter “Lion” Kaminsky, a bare-knuckle boxer, and Charlie Hunnam as Stanley Kaminsky, his corner-man and manager, who is better at plunging the family into debt than scoring big paydays.

On the eve of the film’s release, Winkler spoke to Variety about the movies that inspired “Jungleland,” why “King Arthur” convinced him to cast Hunnam as the down-and-out Stanley, and his go-for-broke effort to score the rights to a Bruce Springsteen song.

CBS‘ fall schedule is looking a lot more like a fall schedule, with the setting of premiere dates for nine of 18 returning shows that now have full episodes in the can — including the well-watched NCIS and its many offspring, plus Young Sheldon and the suddenly Anna Faris-less Mom.

Also scoring a premiere date is the freshman comedy B Positive, starring Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) and Annaleigh Ashford (Masters of Sex).

Fall Guys developer Mediatonic knows the world loves its new party game and is wasting no time in using the indie title as a platform for good. The studio has announced a contest to benefit UK charity Special Effect, which works to provide games, consoles, and modded peripherals to those with disabilities.

The contest is open to game studios and other brands looking to promote their products in Fall Guys, which is currently the most-watched game on Twitch and the third most-played game on Steam behind only Valve’s own Cs:go and Dota 2. To enter, brands can bid on how much they’d be willing to donate to Special Effect. The highest bidder wins.

Another weekend is now upon us and while the various streaming services and VOD platforms are all offering some great content to watch, it’s not like gamers are being left out in the cold. Indeed, if you prefer your choice of entertainment to be a bit more interactive, rest assured that there are some exciting offerings on the table right now.

Lady Gaga has been confirmed as the latest artist to perform at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. Lady Gaga will join the group of performers who were previously announced, which includes Bts, Doja Cat, The Weeknd, Roddy Ricch and Maluma.

The VMAs will air live on Sunday, August 30th at 8pm Et/Pt.

Lady Gaga whose latest album “Chromatica” dropped on May 29, is up for nine video music awards. “Rain on Me,” the second release from the album featured a collaboration with Ariana Grande, earned seven of those nominations including Video of the Year and Song of the Year. Grande and Lady Gaga lead this year’s nominations, followed by Billie Eilish and the Weeknd with six nominations. All four artists have been nominated for video of the year.

Olympic gold medalist skier Lindsey Vonn and her dog, Lucy, are set as the co-hosts of “The Pack,” a new Amazon competition series about the special bond between man (and woman) and man’s (and woman’s!) best friend, the streaming giant announced Thursday during a virtual Ctam panel.

The new unscripted show “features twelve teams of dogs and their humans on an epic adventure across multiple continents,” per Amazon. “The Pack” was filmed earlier this year and will launch on Amazon Prime Video later in 2020.

Netflix has ordered a new animated comedy series from “Norsemen” creators Jon Iver Helgaker and Jonas Torgersen, the creatives’ first foray into the cartoon arts at a time when adult-focused animation is booming and live-action production has slowed or stopped in many territories.

“Captain Fall” will track titular Jonathan Fall, a wet-behind-the-ears yet good-hearted sea captain who unwittingly finds himself at the helm of a smuggling ship. Details about animation style, casting, direction and production have yet to be announced.

Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of the show to be released in two parts. Helgaker and Torgersen will serve as creators, showrunners and executive producers for the series, with animation vet and Netflix producer Joel Trussell (“Electric City”) joining them as executive producer.
