Exclusive: Magnum P.I. is looking to join an elite group of popular broadcast series that have overcome shocking cancellations to continue their runs. No one is commenting, but I hear talks are underway for NBC and/or USA Network to potentially carry the series starring Jay Hernandez.
An arrangement still is being figured out, but I hear one scenario is for new episodes to air on NBC while USA would run previous seasons of the action drama, a reboot of the 1980s series that starred Tom Selleck.

It seems like only yesterday that we said our final goodbyes to Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen’s Obi-Wan and Anakin, but a lot has happened since Revenge of the Sith hit theaters in 2005, including a whole new era of Star Wars stories ushered in by Disney. That era began with a Sequel Trilogy that left the gilded age of the Republic behind and returned to the lived-in aesthetic of A New Hope.
But since the Sequels wrapped in 2019, Lucasfilm has been busy mining other parts of the Star Wars timeline for new tales, this time on our television sets. The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka all take place five years after Return of the Jedi but decades before Rey’s fight against the First Order. And now there’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, the first live-action Star Wars limited series set 10 years after the Prequel Trilogy.

Having Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins on hand to each present their new series at the CW upfront, the network could resist getting the Supernatural trio back together on stage.
They interrupted the CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz spiel about movies and specials to pitch some ideas they have in the arena.
The CW Upfront: Deadline’s Complete Coverage
“Back of a napkin-type stuff like… A Very Castiel Christmas,” Collins said about an angel-themed holiday special named after his Supernatural character.
“How about an awards show from hell, we’ll call it the Demons’ Choice Awards,” Ackles said to a big laugh.
The CW is the TV home for the Critics’ Choice Awards.
Padalecki’s idea was “a very special Hanukkah episode of Walker Texas Rabbi.”

Spotify has launched a Netflix hub with soundtracks, playlists, podcasts and exclusive content related to programming on the streaming video service.
The hub is accessible to both free and premium Spotify subscribers in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland and India.
Spotify has 381 million monthly active users and 172 million subscribers in 184 global markets. Netflix, the leader in streaming video, has about 214 million subscribers.
The hub is seen as a joint promotional initiative and did not involve any money changing hands between the companies, which have collaborated in the past.
“It’s clear that after the credits roll, viewers are left wanting even more—and they come to Spotify to hear it,” the audio streamer said in announcing the hub. Within two weeks of the premiere of Squid Game on Netflix earlier this fall, Spotify said, listeners to its service had made more than 22,500 unique, themed playlists dedicated to the show.

Many of us have been itching to dip our toes into the water of real life ever since the vaccine rollout hinted at an end to the pandemic lockdown. For Léa Seydoux, the next 11 days will be a plunge: with four films in Cannes’ Official Selection, three of them in Competition, her festival itinerary will be relentless. Bouncing between premieres and press, she will be reunited with directors Wes Anderson and Arnaud Desplechin, with whom she’s worked before, for The French Dispatch and Deception, respectively. France marks her first collaboration with Bruno Dumont, while Ildikó Enyedi directs Seydoux in The Story of My Wife.
“It’s crazy,” Seydoux says of the flurry of activity. And she’s excited about what the work represents. “I’ve done one American film, a European film and two French films, and they are all so different. It’s exciting they’ve all been chosen by Cannes.

While the discussion about Kim Ki-duk’s works often focuses on their portrayal of violence and exploitation, these views often fail to recognize the spiritual and human layers within such features as “Bad Guy” or “The Isle”. Especially after his work on “Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring” these concepts became increasingly more relevant and thus dominant, posing questions about the significance of spiritual expression and experience within our modern society. Even though this did not exactly translate into box office success, creatively, the director’s work became more and more interesting in the 2000s as he explored issues like morals, humanity and time. In his 2003 feature “Samaritan Girl” (also titled “Samaria” in some regions), Kim Ki-duk created some kind of transition from the world of his movies from the 1990s to the aforementioned concepts, resulting in a story about friendship, generational gaps and the meaning of true love and compassion.

Exclusive: Absolutely Fabulous and Paddington actress Joanna Lumley is to feature in a truncated third season of Motherland, the BBC comedy co-created by Emmy-nominated Catastrophe star Sharon Horgan.
Lumley’s role is being kept under wraps, but she is likely to be a popular addition to the Merman and Twofour, which returns later this spring and centers on a hapless group of parents as they juggle their careers with life at the school gates.
Deadline hears that Season 3 will be an episode shorter than the usual run of six installments. One source suggested that this is due to filming changes relating to the coronavirus pandemic, though it is understood that Merman counts last December’s Christmas special as being part of the new season.
Motherland’s cast includes Anna Maxwell Martin, Diane Morgan, Lucy Punch, Paul Ready, Philippa Dunne, and Tanya Moodie. It is written by Horgan, Holly Walsh, Helen Serafinowicz,...

A selection at the canceled Tribeca Film Festival last year before finally debuting as part of TIFF’s Industry Selects sidebar, Argyris Papadimitropoulos’ drama Monday follows Mickey (Sebastian Stan) and Chloe (Denise Gough), two Americans living in Athens who meet in the heat of summer one whirlwind weekend and decide to pursue a relationship. Ahead of an April 16 release from IFC Films, the first trailer and poster have arrived.
Jared Mobarak said in his review, “Director Argyris Papadimitropoulos’ Monday feels like it’s going to be a wild ride right from the start as Chloe (Denise Gough) screams into her phone at the voicemail of an assumed ex-boyfriend ditching their final goodbye before she heads back to America. Utter chaos is unfolding around her as the house party she’s stumbled into threatens to rage into the next morning with music, drugs, sex, and whatever else the Greeks in attendance have up their sleeve.

The Alphabet Squadron series has always been about secrets. Since it began in June 2019, the three-book series has essentially filled the role of the old X-Wing novels, following a mismatched group of pilots in the years after Return of the Jedi. Alongside the dogfights were the people hiding histories and motives from one another and from themselves. It’s some of the most complex and interesting work in Star Wars right now. What does a book ostensibly about heroism have to say about people governed by misunderstandings, anxieties, and happenstance? Quite a bit. The third book wraps up the series with a multi-layered, mostly satisfying finale.

Netflix is looking to make a real impact this year, with the streaming giant aiming to release a new movie every single week throughout 2021. One such release is director Zack Snyder's horror action flick, Army of the Dead, and while the movie has not yet been given an official release date, a newspaper clipping is currently doing the rounds on social media which seemingly reveals that the zombie outing will hit the streaming service in May.
While this has not yet been confirmed by Netflix themselves, the newspaper clipping, which highlights Huma S. Qureshi's role in Army of the Dead, seems pretty confident that the movie will be released in May 2021. How they were able to come by this information is unknown, but making the movie available in late May, around the start of the summer season, would certainly make sense.

‘Big Sky’ Star Jade Pettyjohn on Fall Finale Cliffhanger: ‘On the Surface, It Seems Like We’re Safe’
(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the fall finale of ABC’s “Big Sky.”)
David E. Kelley’s ABC thriller “Big Sky” brought the first half of its first season to a close Tuesday with Cassie (Kylie Bunbury) shooting Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch) in the head after coming to the recuse of the kidnapped Grace (Jade Pettyjohn), Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Jerrie (Jesse James Keitel).
It was a shocking scene that probably has fans thinking the girls are finally safe from their captors and the buyer who was coming for them — but Pettyjohn told TheWrap you shouldn’t get too comfortable while waiting for the show to return at midseason.
“That’s really what’s so exciting about the show is that nothing is really as it seems and you don’t know where they’re going to take it. So on the surface, it seems like we...

IATSE is hailing the Canadian government’s efforts to save its arts and entertainment sector during the Covid-19 pandemic through loans and wage subsidies in what is being billed as Canada’s largest economic relief package since World War II. The plan, which still is working its way through the legislative process, also would require international digital companies like Netflix to remit federal sales tax on digital sales.
On Monday, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland unveiled the Fall Economic Statement, which includes several significant policy announcements for Canada’s hardest-hit businesses, including tourism, hospitality and arts & entertainment. Altogether, the plan will amount to 3%-4% of Canada’s Gdp, she said, and includes money for coronavirus vaccines and assistance to help provinces and territories improve Covid-19 infection control in long-term care facilities, as well as support for lower- and middle-income families.

Max Winkler’s “Jungleland” is a throwback to the kind of character-driven, road movies that Hollywood hasn’t made much since the glory days of the 1970s moviemaking.
It’s the story of two drifter brothers who are so desperate to escape their dead-end lives that they accept an offer to ferry a young woman (Jessica Barden) across the country to a degenerate criminal. The film, which opens Friday, stars Jack O’Connell as Walter “Lion” Kaminsky, a bare-knuckle boxer, and Charlie Hunnam as Stanley Kaminsky, his corner-man and manager, who is better at plunging the family into debt than scoring big paydays.
On the eve of the film’s release, Winkler spoke to Variety about the movies that inspired “Jungleland,” why “King Arthur” convinced him to cast Hunnam as the down-and-out Stanley, and his go-for-broke effort to score the rights to a Bruce Springsteen song.

Jarvis Cocker’s band Jarv Is… covered the Velvet Underground’s “Venus in Furs” during an exhibition saluting choreographer Michael Clark.

Earlier this week, Activision and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward revealed that they have banned 20,000 more Warzone accounts for cheating. Following that announcement, developer Infinity Ward took to Twitter to share some news about how many Warzone and Modern Warfare accounts have been banned for cheating since Modern Warfare’s launch in August 2019.
Anti-cheat update:
Since launch, the team has banned over 200,000 accounts for cheating across #Warzone and #ModernWarfare, including a new wave this week. We are continuing to deploy additional security updates and added backend enforcement tools. Zero tolerance for cheating.
— Infinity Ward (@InfinityWard) October 1, 2020
Usually, news like this would be met with overwhelming support from the vast majority of gamers who do not cheat or support the use of cheating software in video games. Only the cheaters are really going to complain about being banned for cheating.

The following contains spoilers for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
Netflix and Dreamworks’ newest animated series, Jurassic: World Camp Cretaceous, takes the mythology of the Jurassic World franchise and focuses on a group of teen characters, surviving among the dinosaurs when the park’s safety features fail. Under the conceit that the park’s newest initiative is a camp for teens, a diverse group of young adults arrive to experience the wonder of living dinosaurs. But when, midway through the series, everything goes wrong, the kids are left on their own, forced to evade a carnotaurus and the incredibly dangerous Indominus rex.
Not knowing whether a second season is planned, the final episode ends in a completely different place from where viewers might expect. While no second season has yet been announced, it’s clear from the final moments of the last episode that the story isn’t finished. While that...

There’s a steel guitar solo on Elizabeth Cook’s new album Aftermath that sounds like no steel guitar you’ve heard before. Snaking and shimmering rather than twangy and weepy, the solo on “Perfect Girls of Pop,” played through a flanger pedal, is more Giorgio Moroder than George Jones. It’s only 30 seconds in length, but that brief transcendent journey drives home the point that this LP — Cook’s sixth — is far from the traditional country music of her past.

The new HBO miniseries The Third Day begins with a leisurely, God’s-eye view of a verdant English country road, disturbing music, and the unmistakable sound of Jude Law’s voice in distress saying, “What? Fall Guys developer Mediatonic knows the world loves its new party game and is wasting no time in using the indie title as a platform for good. The studio has announced a contest to benefit UK charity Special Effect, which works to provide games, consoles, and modded peripherals to those with disabilities.
The contest is open to game studios and other brands looking to promote their products in Fall Guys, which is currently the most-watched game on Twitch and the third most-played game on Steam behind only Valve’s own Cs:go and Dota 2. To enter, brands can bid on how much they’d be willing to donate to Special Effect. The highest bidder wins.
