    A fun documentary

A river somewhere is a perfect blend of Tom and Rob's clever and witty sence of humour, and the information of a documentary. It's lots of fun, particularly if you enjoy fishing. But unlike commercial fishing shows, it's not one big add. It's informative, and the scenary is amazing, both of here (Australia), and internation. It's good to see their partnership being applied to a totally different genre`. (As oposed to, say, the Panal and Frontline) Keep up the good work Tom and Rob, as well as, of course, the 'funky' Santo, Jane, Debra, and Michael (Who also Produced).

A lovely little show that captures the freedom of fishing a free flowing river.

I first came across a river somewhere by accident when I thought it was Tuesday not Wednesday. I turned on the television to watch an Attenbourough documentary and found what perhaps is my favourite show of all time. The great thing about this show is it doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. This show is about freedom, freedom to do what you want when you want in the middle of nowhere. The show is about two fly fisherman (Tom Gleisner, Rob Sitch) fishing various rivers around the world with a "that'll do" approach never taking themselves seriously and often poking fun at the absurdity of two grown men being fascinated with outwitting and catching a creature with the brain the size of pea. Because that's what this show is, a lot of fun.

    entertainment plus

Ranks as one of the most original ( and enjoyable ) TV shows I've seen. The show is about the travels of two intrepid trout fishermen who track down their sport in some incredible locations. My kids bought me the DVD set for father's day & I watch the episodes regularly. The background music is quite haunting & is supplied with the DVD's in a boxed set. I can't help wondering why they ( Rob & Tom ) only made such few episodes? The stars of the show wrote , starred & put the whole shebang together. What talent! Some of the scenery & locations they visit & fish are just sensational. It is a winning formula and , compared to the rest of the junk that we're force fed by the commercial stations, is worth re-visiting. Very watchable & entertaining.

    It's Not Just About Fishing

A River Somewhere was Working Dog Production's next project following the success of the brilliant mockumentary 'Frontline' and the light-hearted underdog comedy of 'The Castle'. It's a similarly light-hearted documentary showcasing Rob Sitch and Tom Gleisner's great love of fly-fishing, following them around the world as they wet their lines in some of the most picturesque rivers and lakes on Earth, explore their surroundings and sample the local culture. The fish they catch is cooked according to a local recipe and we learn something of the history of their destinations, which include Bhutan, the US, Belize, Italy and of course Australia, to name but a few.

Sitch and Gleisner's down-to-earth personalities and gentle wit ideally suit the laid-back nature of the program. They present you with enough information to justify the 'documentary' label, but never is it laboured - the emphasis is firmly on fun and adventure. The production is greatly elevated by some excellent camera work, wonderful scenery and marvellous acoustic guitar score - almost a character unto itself. And I have to admit my mouth was watering by the end of every episode, compounded by an overwhelming desire for seafood. My only real complaint is that two series didn't seem enough, although I guess the format can only stretch so far and there's no shortage of ideal destinations. After all, there's always a river - somewhere.
