Power Rangers: Turbo

The Fan-Made Power Rangers Hoax That Actually Became Canon
Image
"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" is an interesting exercise in localizing international television for American audiences. The show spliced together fight footage from the "Super Sentai" series "Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger" with clips of U.S. actors playing teenagers to create wholly original stories about a group of teens when they're not fighting evil creatures. The result was the first "Power Rangers" show, which remains a good time all these years later. It was also a monumental hit in its day, lasting for three seasons while combining different generations of "Super Sentai" into a Frankenstein's Monster of a TV series (even if the kids watching at home never realized that's what it was).

But "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" was more than just a ratings superpower; it was also a merchandising juggernaut and pop culture phenomenon, spawning a theatrical film and even a live touring show in 1995. Nevertheless, the series eventually came to an end,...

The Most Adult Power Rangers Seasons, Ranked
Image
For 30 years, the Power Rangers franchise has delivered fun, action-packed series to audiences both young and old. With the long-running continuity of the series, it’s easy to understand why the franchise has managed to maintain an older audience, especially given how much the series focuses on past rangers and nostalgia.

However, the Power Rangers franchise is well-known for being geared towards a younger audience. While some kids' shows, like Avatar: The Last Airbender, managed to create a story suitable for all age groups, most Power Rangers seasons tend to feature a lot of silly moments and oversimplified writing. However, some seasons have stood out as being slightly more mature, allowing both the young audience and adult fans to connect with the series.

Every Power Ranger That Needs a Master Morpher
Image
Throughout the early seasons of Power Rangers, there were several characters that took on many Ranger forms. The 25th-anniversary special of the series, titled "Dimensions in Danger" (which took place during the second season of Power Rangers Ninja Steel), introduced a way for these Rangers to utilize all of their Ranger forms.

The Master Morpher was introduced as an upgraded form of the original morphers from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, with Tommy Oliver being the only character in the special to use it. Throughout the episode, with the use of the Master Morpher, Tommy was able to morph into any of his past Ranger forms, even those forms whose powers were destroyed. Given the immense power and versatility a Master Morpher provides, there are several other Power Rangers characters who would greatly benefit from a Master Morpher.

Power Rangers’ Best 1990s Season Isn’t Mighty Morphin And Deserves As Much Love As The Original Show
Image
Power Rangers will always be synonymous with the 1990s, but the show’s best season from that era was not Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Having been around for over 30 years, Power Rangers has seen almost a thousand episodes as well as three movies. The franchise also includes hundreds of comic book issues, multiple video games, and more. Despite such a long list of Power Rangers shows and movies, it’s difficult not to associate the franchise with Mighty Morphin, the original series that ran from 1993 to 1995.

Although nostalgia plays a role when looking at Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the original series was very good and became a pop culture phenomenon for a reason. The Zyuranger aesthetic worked incredibly well for an American superhero show, with Mmpr also including a compelling cast of main characters that will forever be remembered by fans of the series. That said, Mighty Morphin was a simple,...

Power Rangers' 10 Best Cameos
Image
The Power Rangers universe was built on crossovers and cameos, many of which came out of nowhere and helped build a sense of continuity that made the show even better. When it comes to special appearances in Power Rangers, there is a difference between the usual crossover episodes between the current and the previous team, and cameos from legacy heroes. Almost every season had one team-up episode featuring the previous Power Rangers team, but not every season had cameos from other generations.

From 1993 to 1998, every Power Rangers show was part of the same overarching story that later became known as the Zordon Era. After Power Rangers in Space, the show started to have more standalone series, which made cameos and crossover episodes very special. From iconic Rangers showing up to help the younger generation to villains returning decades after their first appearance, Power Rangers knows how to do cameos.

Power Rangers’ Canceled 7-Movie Plan Makes The 2017 Reboot’s Failure Even More Heartbreaking
Image
Power Rangers (2017) was supposed to lead to multiple sequels, which makes the reboot’s failure even more disappointing. Power Rangers has a complicated history with theatrical movies. The franchise’s first attempt to turn the TV phenomenon into box office success was in 1995 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. While the 1995 Power Rangers movie has since become a classic thanks to TV reruns and VHS, it didn’t do exceptionally well when it came out. Two years later, Power Rangers got a second film, this time on a much smaller budget and with a more limited release.

Interestingly, 1997’s Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie is the only canon film in the franchise and works as “episode 0” of Power Rangers Turbo. It took 20 years for Power Rangers to get another movie, with Power Rangers (2017) promising a darker, more mature take on the world of Mighty Morphin. With a...

Best Power Rangers Easter Eggs, Ranked
Image
The Power Rangers franchise has spent its thirty-year run keeping fans invested, from its young audience to adult fans alike. One of the concepts that kept Power Rangers fans invested throughout the years was its shared continuity. With thirty seasons and numerous Ranger teams, the series has crafted its internal multiverse of shared history and long-running storylines.

With this shared continuity, later Power Rangers seasons have made many callbacks to previous seasons, paying tribute to the franchise's legacy and reminding fans that previous events remain canon to the universe despite the constant changes to the status quo. While most Power Rangers seasons include a team-up episode where the current Rangers team up with the previous team, there are several smaller callbacks and Easter eggs that fans have loved. These callbacks not only give great fan service to lifelong fans but also emphasize the shared universe.

Power Rangers In Order: How To Watch Every Movie & TV Series
Image
The 1990s were a good time to be a fan of Japanese pop culture. After the '80s made gamers out of millions of kids thanks to Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog, it was the '90s when anime started to become mainstream in the U.S. (even if kids didn't know it at the time) thanks to "Pokémon" becoming a worldwide cultural phenomenon. (That and "Sailor Moon" and "Dragon Ball Z" turning kids and teens into lifelong fans of the medium.)

But it wasn't just animation. In live-action, "Power Rangers" brought tokusatsu fun to the West and started a hugely influential superhero franchise that, yes, is still very good. Created by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy in collaboration with Shotaro Ishinomori, the long-running property is mostly made out of reused footage from Ishinomori's iconic tokusatsu series "Super Sentai." It revolves around a team of youths trained to morph into...

“The Guy’s A Teacher, Not Batman:” The Original Green Ranger’s Secret Hideout Confirmed How Much Tommy Oliver Changed
Image
Tommy Oliver went from a “punch first, ask questions later” Ranger in Mighty Morphin to a wise, resourceful mentor who even had his own secret Batcave in Power Rangers Dino Thunder. Set seven years after Tommy and the rest of the Mmpr/Zeo Rangers left the team midway through Turbo, Dino Thunder was not as self-contained as the other Disney seasons. While the 2004 show was a standalone story, it also worked as a legacy sequel to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers thanks to the return of Jason David Frank as Tommy Oliver.

Although Frank had appeared in 2002’s Wild Force as one of the veteran Red Rangers from the Forever Red crossover, Tommy had not been a recurrent character in the series since 1997. With Power Rangers moving production to New Zealand and Disney moving toward standalone seasons, it seemed like there was no room for a character like Tommy to return in a large capacity.

Remember When 'Power Rangers' Went 'Fast & Furious'? Thanks To Tubi, Now You Will
Image
Back in the late 90s, Power Rangers was at peak popularity among children. After a wildly successful four-season run of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, the show had no reason to stop, but Saban Entertainment had to come up with ways to reinvent the saga in order to keep it fresh — and sell more toys. In 1997, the idea, once again, came from Japan. Power Rangers Turbo became the new iteration of the franchise in which the multicolored warriors drive thematic cars that are assembled in order to form the Megazord. Don't remember it? Well, thanks to Tubi, you'll be able to travel back to that era in December.

Image
Power Rangers fans have a lot to look forward to, given the amount of franchise content hitting several platforms next month. One such piece of content is the highly underrated 2017 Saban's Power Rangers Lionsgate movie, which hits Peacock on December 6.

Power Rangers, which franchise creator Haim Saban returned to produce, follows a group of teenagers who gain newfound powers they must use to protect Earth from an ancient reawakened threat. The Saban's Power Rangers reboot, which was the third franchise film installment, loosely adapted the pilot episode of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series "Day of the Dumpster." The movie stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason Scott/The Red Ranger, Rj Cyler as Billy Cranston/The Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart/The Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini Kwan/The Yellow Ranger, and Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor/The Black Ranger. The Best Power Rangers Storylines, Ranked
Image
Even in the best Power Rangers seasons, there are always at least a handful of low-quality filler episodes. What allows these seasons to shine in spite of their lesser outings are their powerful story arcs. Whether it's a character arc, a season-long narrative, or a select set of episodes, the series is at its best when it's attempting long-form storytelling.

Nearly every season from Power Rangers Turbo onward features at least one stellar storyline, including the weaker ones, as they rise in quality upon becoming more ambitious. That's partially why the best Power Rangers story arcs are sometimes stronger than the seasons they're from. At their most engaging, these storylines are dramatic, well-acted, action-packed, and emotional while still staying true to the heart of the series.

Two of the most popular media franchises in the '90s were Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Power Rangers is a simple show compared to most others, but, over the past 31 years, it has constructed a complex web of lore across multiple forms of media. Conversely, this also made the show's side characters just as memorable, namely one plucky, lovable robot.

Alpha was an assistant of Zordon and helped recruit the original team of Power Rangers on the show. Though he wasn't much of a fighter himself, he remained a pivotal part of the Rangers' lives throughout the end of the "Zordon era.

Power Rangers' Biggest Unfinished Story - Millennium Message Explained
Image
The Power Rangers Turbo series introduced a storyline called The Millennium Message, but it was never followed up on due to changes in the writing staff. The Millennium Message would have revealed a force that could stop the villains, but the audience never got to see who it was. Instead of continuing The Millennium Message plotline, Power Rangers Turbo focused on passing down the titles and powers to a new generation of Rangers.

Despite the fact that the Power Rangers franchise hinted at a major storyline for the crime-fighting teenagers in Power Rangers Turbo, the Millennium Message plot never actually happened, and only for one small, subtle reason. Power Rangers Turbo is a 1997 Power Rangers series that lasted one season and is the fifth installment in the Power Rangers franchise. Despite being a continuation of the franchise, Power Rangers Turbo saw a whole horde of changes, most importantly in relation to the cast.

Where The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie Cast Is Now
Image
The 1995 Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie was not part of the official Power Rangers timeline, but it remains a popular and memorable part of the franchise's nostalgia. Jason David Frank, the late actor who played Tommy Oliver, made multiple appearances as many different Ranger colors in various Power Rangers shows and movies. Other cast members, such as Amy Jo Johnson, David Yost, Karan Ashley, Johnny Yong Bosch, Steve Cardenas, Paul Schrier, and Jason Narvy, also had significant roles and continued to be involved in the Power Rangers universe.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie cast helped bring Power Rangers to the big screen for the very first time in 1995, and while most of the actors continued to be part of the franchise, others never reprised their roles. After Mighty Morphin Power Rangers quickly became a pop culture phenomenon, it was easy to predict that a theatrical film centered...

Why Power Rangers' Strongest Team Mysteriously Disappeared From The Show
Image
The Zeo Power Rangers, arguably the most powerful Power Rangers team, mysteriously disappeared from the TV show canon along with the Zeo crystals. After three years and hundreds of episodes, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was replaced by Power Rangers Zeo. The marketing campaign leading up to this new Power Rangers show was focused on how the Power Rangers were now "stronger than before," thanks to the mythical Zeo crystals. However, those powers have since disappeared from Power Rangers canon.

During Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season 3, the Power Rangers had to search for the Zeo crystals across different points in time. The Zeo crystals are said to be the strongest source of power in the Power Rangers universe, as they offer a direct gateway to the Morphin Grid. The Zeo Zords were also said to be more powerful than the Power Rangers’ Dino Zords or the Thunder Zords. Still, when Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997) premiered,...

Which Power Ranger Appeared In The Most Episodes (In All Shows)
Image
In Power Rangers' extensive back catalog, a certain Power Rangers team member comes out on top for appearing in the most episodes. The early '90s saw the start of the iconic franchise, bringing the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers to screens, and from then on the influence of the Power Rangers has stretched across decades and generations with various titles depicting the team of heroes. More than 20 series later, Power Rangers maintains a cult following with a prized franchise formula that follows a group of youths able to morph into the titular Power Rangers, harness special super abilities, and operate tremendous assault machines to ward off episodic antagonists.

9 Power Rangers Actors Who Are Martial Artists In Real Life

Power Rangers’ Most Important Red Ranger Was Never Jason Or Tommy
Image
The list of Power Rangers’ Red Rangers includes franchise legends Jason Lee Scott and Tommy Oliver, but neither of them was the most important Red Ranger in the saga. Jason was Power Rangers’ first Red Ranger, the one chosen by Zordon to lead the team in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Why Power Rangers' 1995 Movie Isn't Canon To The TV Show
Image
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995) is not canon to the Power Rangers TV show, which can be surprising considering just how popular the film is. While Mighty Morphin Power Rangers aired 145 episodes across three seasons, the original Power Rangers movie is also responsible for the 1990s’ Power Rangers mania. Power Rangers: The Movie made $66,4 million at the box office on a $15 million budget.

The first Power Rangers movie saw White Ranger Tommy Oliver leading his team of Power Rangers against Ivan Ooze, an intergalactic villain who wanted revenge on Zordon. Even though the Power Rangers movie repeated some classic Power Rangers tropes, it felt bigger and bolder than anything the series had done. Still, in terms of canon, Power Rangers: The Movie and the Power Rangers TV show are two separate things.
