Marvellous classic family series of boy plus friends and dog

I love this varied rendition of the classic family tale, Lassie. My son and I used to watch it regularly together on Sunday evenings during his late elementary and middle school years, and we both have fond memories. In this adaptation a vet named Karen Cabot moves back to her Vermont hometown with her young adolescent son, Timmy. There she opens a veterinary clinic and he finds a collie, who becomes the family pet and is named Lassie. The series chronicles the assorted adventures of Timmy, his friends, and his faithful and intelligent dog.

Corey Sevrier is a competent young actor here, wonderful in the role of Timmy Cabot. Timmy also has, in addition to the collie, several well cast human friends, including Jeff and Natalie (a romantic interest). Other characters include Doc Stewart and Hank, an interesting and kind hearted junkyard guy. Of course apart from Timmy, Lassie is the real star of the show.

The series depicts the classic everyday problems of growing up, such as bullies and first love, but also various animal adventures...both the typical Lassie saving the day and also unique stories from Tim's mom's vet practice. I'd certainly give a strong recommendation to this, a really cute and heartwarming family series.

    Still love it

Absolutely loved this show as a kid. I was only a baby when it came out in '97, so i watched it in early 2000's and i recently re-watched all episodes i could find. As an animal lover, especially when i was a younger, it was frickin awesome. It had cute animals, good actors, exciting adventures, lovely set and surroundings...everything i could ask for. A great show for both kids and adults.

It's a shame the show isn't more popular. It's literally impossible to find all the episodes online anywhere even though i feel like i have desperately searched through the entire internet. Pretty sure DVD's with the show doesn't even exist sadly.

too bad Corey grew out of the role

I like this version of Lassie a lot since I'm half Canadian and its a Canadian production. The writing was really good and all the actors had the accents down cold. It was so cute when Corey Sevier got to kiss Natalie at the end of the series; you got the feeling he wanted to do that all along. I like watching Corey in Little Men on Pax TV also; he's a good actor.

A great series no matter of age

I've seen this Lassie series a few years ago and now it's being broadcast on a different network in Sweden.

Great acting by all characters, a cute dog and handsome stories contribute to the overall quality of this version. The beautiful surroundings is also a reason why I enjoy watching it, the nature reminds me of Sweden.

There is not much information about the actors on the internet except for Corey which surprises me a bit, maybe it's because it's a Canadian series with non U.S. people involved. I wonder why it didn't take place in Canada when that's where they shot it?

To sum it up, Lassie 1997 is one of those productions I'd have liked to step into in real life....

    tv series, corey

i have watched him on a few series..i thought i watched lassie to the very end, but i didnt'..wish i could see it again..i do not think that he grew out of the role...

i have seen him on little men, i'm watching a rerun right now, the 2030 series, (didnt' get to see black sash..dont' get WB..and no canadian station picked it up)...

now i am enjoying him on zoe, i do hope that the show gets picked up for another year..i think that he and taylor are really sweet..i would like to see him maybe doing a soap, he'd be a great addition to one..but i have the feeling that he wishes to only work here, as all the series that he's done have been here in toronto, or the surrounding area mostly....there are a few actors that would be great states side..but who have not choosen to go there..only wishing to work on shows that are shot on this side of the border....but, he'd be great on a soap

    • Trivia
The great-great-great-great-great-grandson of 'Pal', and the 8th dog to appear in the Lassie role, Howard, starred in the first 26 episodes but was replaced for 13 episodes in a cost-cutting move with unknown collies that were purchased by a French trainer. Outraged fans waged a campaign to restore a line dog to the series. A new contract was signed but Howard's son Hey Hey II stepped into the role for the last 13 episodes.
