The story, as mentioned, is good; exposing the corrupt nature of some elements engaged in France, as well as hinting at the first signs of weakness in Sharpe's marriage. The episode moves along at a brisk pace, and yet still has time for some nice touches of humour with Harris' dealing of the slimy Shellington.
Overall a good episode which whilst not achieving the highs of the first few outings, still an improvement over some of the later showings.
Another great Sharpe adventure. As usual the plot isn't very watertight and some of the military aspects aren't realistic but it's still good fun. The action scenes are great, as always, and it's a wonderfully entertaining. The domestic situation with Jane, the journalist and Harris is also quite amusing.
7/10.

- TriviaSgt. Pope kicks Sgt. Harper in the face to end their first fight. When Andrew Schofield went to do this, his planted foot slipped on the wet ground and he accidentally kicked Daragh O'Malley for real, fracturing his cheek. O'Malley had to be rushed to the hospital for surgery and the injury took a few weeks to heal; since they couldn't delay filming, Harper's toothache was written into Sharpe's Siege (which was being shot at the same time) to explain O'Malley's swollen face.
- GoofsAt around 27:48, when Sharpe introduces his wife Jane to Colonel Brand, over her shoulder, you see a red car drive in the background from right to left.
- Quotes
Wellington: I'd be obliged if you'd show that fellow Shellington around the camp. I can't spare another officer.
Sharpe: Yes sir.
Wellington: Oh, and Sharpe, you better brace yourself. He's a poet.
Sharpe: Poet, sir? My wife will be delighted.
Wellington: Really? Personally I'd rather call for the surgeon and have him cut off my goddamn foot with a saw.
