October was huge for Disney+ and Hulu — but which month isn’t? After the weekly installments of “Agatha All Along” and the staple that is Huluween, the bundled streamers gear up for winter programming this November.
Disney+ continues to be the home for live episodes of “Dancing With the Stars” and the original series “Ayla & The Mirrors,” which continues to air new episodes. Along with new children’s programming and holiday specials like “An Almost Christmas Story,” the streamer will premiere “The Music of John Williams” on November 1, celebrating the acclaimed film composer and his decades-long career with new footage and interviews from those he worked with and inspired.
It’s another big month for movies coming to Hulu, as well as beloved shows like “Ally McBeal” (complete series). Stay tuned for an adaptation of Charles Yu’s “Interior Chinatown” and the docuseries “It’s All Country,” as well as...

Jerry Seinfeld is famous for his sharp wit and observational humor, but sometimes even the best of comedians cross the line and end up offending some with their otherwise harmless jokes. And Seinfeld very well knows this experience, having infamously ended up eating his own tall claims once.

Back in 2019, the comedian claimed that some other talk shows had been copying his talk show, but as fate would have it, his accusations didn’t hold for too long and he had to apologize.

Streaming services are now trying to ration their upcoming original content due to the ongoing actors strike and the only recently-resolved writers’ strike, so we’re going to see a thinning-down of new releases across the board over the next six months at least. Hulu will be adding a lot of library TV shows and movies in November, but there are only a few new major original projects hitting the streamer this month.
Hulu’s spotlight streaming series in November is Black Cake, which is based on the bestselling book by Charmaine Wilkerson. Part family drama, part murder mystery, the show features a globetrotting story that will cover decades of events after a bereaved family find a flash drive that contains some shocking secrets about the hidden history of their late matriarch.

Though Huluween is almost officially over, Hulu is not slowing down at all as the new month approaches! The streamer will head into November with plenty of new additions to un-spook yourself and keep warm, including the new Awkwafina and Sandra Oh-led “Quiz Lady”; Christmas classics like “National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation” and “The Polar Express,” and much more.
On the TV side, Hulu will have the exclusive two-episode premiere of FX’s limited murder mystery series “A Murder at the End of the World” starring Emma Corrin. “Fargo” fans can also catch the next-day streaming premiere of Season/Year 5, which will star Jon Hamm, Juno Temple, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. It's been 41 years since "Cheers" premiered, and 30 years since it's ended. Although other popular sitcoms like "The Bill Cosby Show" and "Newhart" gave it a run for its money, it's clear by now that "Cheers" has most effectively withstood the test of the time. When the average person thinks of '90s sitcoms, they think of "Friends" or "Seinfeld," but when you ask them to name a sitcom from the '80s, "Cheers" is almost always the first to come to mind.
It helps that so much of the "Cheers" cast has continued to have a major presence in pop culture long after the finale, even if they haven't all returned to the sheer height of popularity they had back in the '80s and early '90s. Whether he’s on his way to work or just rolling through his hometown of London, England, James Corden always makes time for a good ole carpool karaoke.
Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” performances may be what he’s most know for, having had notable talents from Usher, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and more singing along in the passenger seat. “The Late Late Show with James Corden” host credits singer/songwriter George Michael as the inspiration behind the segment, as the late Wham! singer as his first “Carpool Karaoke” guest when they appeared in the skit back in 2011 for a British charity. In the skit, Michael and Corden sang several songs, which eventually gave Corden the idea to turn it into a portion on his show when the talk show debuted on March 23, 2015.

James Corden said farewell to CBS on Thursday evening by doing something no one ever thought would be possible: Getting Tom Cruise to sing Elton John’s hit ballad “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”
After an opening “The Last Last Late Late Show with James Corden Carpool Karaoke Special” by singing “Last Show” (to the tune of “Last Dance”), and quick opening monologue, Corden switched to its heavily promoted final pre-tape with Cruise. As previously announced, the action star icon and the host joined a performance of “The Lion King” at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. The first part of the clip showed the two rehearsing and singing on stage in costume — but from there, the sketch turned into a bit of a farewell between the two.
As Corden played up his sadness at saying farewell to Cruise, the duo broke into the John song. Corden began: “Tom, I mean,...

Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from James Corden’s primetime special and final installment of The Late Late Show on CBS.
So long, James Corden. The affable Brit who took over for Craig Ferguson in 2015 ended his eight-year run as host of CBS’ The Late Late Show on Thursday.
To help say goodbye to its late-night star, CBS set aside an hour in primetime for a pre-taped special that included video montages and candy-coated skits so Corden could show off his singing chops. First up: a musical number with Corden, who stood on top of the old Television City building to sing a rendition of Donna Summer’s “Last Dance” — but in this case, it was changed to “Last Show.”
That was followed by a playful bit with Tom Cruise, who agreed to perform with Corden in a Hollywood staging of The Lion King. With Cruise as the warthog and Corden as the meerkat,...

Despite scooping an Emmy, 16 Grammys and an Oscar, Adele said that there’s no chance she will become an Egot winner by adding a Tony award to her haul of trophies as she “hates musicals.”
The ‘Chasing Pavements’ singer, 34, was handed an Emmy for her ‘Adele: One Night Only’ special, as well as 16 Grammys and a best original song Oscar for James Bond film theme ‘Skyfall’, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
But she said on James Corden’s final ‘Carpool Karaoke’ segment about the reason she won’t add a Tony to the collection which would make her one of the world’s few artists to be an ‘Egot’ winner: “(I’ve) always had the ‘Ego’ (but) I would never write a musical or anything like that because I f****** hate musicals.

Adele’s 2016 “Carpool Karaoke” clip remains the most watched of all time for “The Late Late Show with James Corden.” Actually, it’s one of the most-watched clips of all time for any talk show, period, at more than 260 million views. So, when Adele pitched an idea to surprise Corden for his finale, there was no hesitation.
The idea: Adele would surprise Corden at his house and drive him to work for one final “Carpool Karaoke.” “That was a shock to me, I didn’t know about that,” Corden told Variety. “I thought our last carpool was with Diddy. He was someone we tried to get for a while. And then this surprise with Adele happened!
“The fact that she came and did that for me. The fact that it was her idea to say, ‘well, why don’t I drive him to work?’ It’s really special,” he added.

Saying “Baby, I could drive your car” has proven to be a very good strategy for James Corden — never more so than when he put Paul McCartney into the highly sought passenger seat.
The primetime special “Carpool Karaoke: When Corden Met McCartney, Live From Liverpool” is a contender in five Emmy categories this year, including variety special (prerecorded), plus directing, writing, editing and sound mixing for a variety special. That’s hardly the only impressive stat Corden can claim, though. The late-night host himself is up for seven Emmys, the most for any on-air performer this year, and five of those nods are directly associated with the “Carpool Karaoke” franchise.
“You’ve got to be really careful at times like this to not start to think you might be more of a dude than you really are,” admits the “Late Late Show” host, faced with the abundance of Emmy love.

An edited version of this story about James Corden and Ben Winston first appeared in the Down to the Wire issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine.
The most-nominated person at this year’s Emmys is writer, producer and director Ben Winston, with eight separate nominations. The second-most nominated is James Corden, with seven.
What does this teach us?
Well, since Winston happens to produce, write and direct James Corden’s shows, it teaches us that it’s good to be in proximity to Corden (or to be Corden).

But there’s more to it than that, because Corden and Winston were each nominated for their work on “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” and for the interactive elements of “The Late Late Show,” and for the short-form series “Carpool Karaoke: The Series,” and for...

Even in its off moments – some carpoolers are just funnier than others – James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke can be an effective marketing tool, getting the word out about new songs, reviving fading hits and helping Corden himself tap into the latest musical buzz. Win-win. So makes sense that The Late Late Show host would use the bit to tap into what might be the last market segment holding out from the inescapable reach of Cardi B.
Seniors.
Last night’s Carpool Karaoke on CBS’ The The Late Late Show with James Corden started out routine enough – Corden and Cardi B drive around L.A., singing along to the rapper’s songs, talking about her stripping days, shouting out to pedestrians, chatting about the five vehicles the rapper owns but can not drive (a parking-lot driving lesson ensues).
As the two consider the age of Cardi’s typical audience, Corden stops...

Back in 2015, when James Corden moved to the Us to front CBS’ The Late Late Show, pretty much no one knew who he was—that is, except his fellow Brits back home. While doing the rounds of La in those first weeks, trying to assure publicists his show would be a good bet for their celebrity clients, Corden embraced the fear of imminent cancellation and threw himself headlong into making a show unlike anything else in the late night arena, as he says, “We absolutely knew that we had to just hit the ground running, that there was no time, there was no period of grace with an audience.”
He more than prevailed with genius segments like Carpool Karaoke, Drop the Mic and Crosswalk the Musical, not only laughing A-listers into booking spots—and getting them to unabashedly sing and rap with him—but also cornering a huge online following.

Exclusive: There is change at the helm of Starz’s upcoming spy thriller series The Rook, from Lionsgate and Liberty Global. Lisa Zwerling (Betrayal) and Karyn Usher (Bones) have come onboard as showrunners. They will replace in the role The Night Manager‘s Stephen Garrett who remains an executive producer. Meanwhile, Twilight‘s Stephenie Meyer who, via her production company originally brought The Rook to Lionsgate, is stepping away due to differences in creative visions of the project.
The behind-the-scenes change comes early in the production of The Rook, which is currently filming the first two episodes of its first-season order in London. The showrunner switch will have no impact on production, which will continue as scheduled. The Rook is slated to air on Starz in the U.S., and across Liberty Global’s international platforms in 2019.
Zwerling and Usher will executive produce via their Carpool Entertainment production company alongside Garrett under his Character 7 banner.

In August of 2016, Diana Miller, music booker for “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” finally caught a unicorn. “It’s important that the talent is instantly recognizable in “Carpool Karaoke,” and that the segment features big hits,” she says. And so, after months of pursuit, she convinced Michelle Obama to appear in an episode, alongside Missy Elliot.
According to Nielsen, digital sales for “This Song Is for My Girls,” the charity track they promoted, jumped 1,652%. The segment also featured sing-alongs of Elliot’s “Get Ur Freak On” (which saw a sales increase of 312%), Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” (up 42%), and Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” (up 76.5%).
That was then; streams are now. As consumers have increasingly abandoned downloads, the goal of music-on-tv has shifted from moving units to creating viral events. The benefits are symbiotic: Artists are granted an internet afterlife, while shows count those numbers as key performance indicators.

David Paymer is one of those actors who you instantly recognize from his face and voice, but up until this point you’ve never actually bothered to find out his name. (Carpool anyone?)

The cast already includes Chris Pine, Keira Knightley, Kenneth Branagh, and Kevin Costner.
Paymer is expected to play an American diplomat.
