Soul Survivors

This two parter rates, as far as I am concerned, along with "The Commitments" and "The Blues Brothers" as one of the best screenplays to deal with Soul music. Showing, as they all do, that it makes no difference what colour or nationality you are, Soul is for and about us all. I taped this series when first (in fact the the only time)it was broadcast, I watch it time and time again and the most criminal aspect of it is..........the BBC never released a soundtrack to it. Not only were there classic tracks included but we never got to hear the full versions of "pickin' up the pieces" and "like a babe in arms". Any fans out there, lets see if we can't get this out, and to quote McShane "lets keep on keepin' on"

The sort of "little" film which studios used to excel at but seldom make anymore. Sort of a "soul" version of the more well-known "The Last Of The Blonde Bombshells". Ian McShane is excellent as a DJ and aficionado of soul music who becomes obsessed with the idea of re-uniting the members of a classic soul group, and the film follows his exploits as well as those of the group members; a cast which includes such genuine musical talent as Isaac Hayes, as well as acting stalwarts Taurean Blacque, Derrick O'Connor and Antonio Fargas. Not meant to be an epic by any means, this is nonetheless a chunk of solid gold.

A very delightful bit of filmwork that should have had wider distribution. Ian McShane is right at home playing the soul loving DJ who gets canned because he won't " go along with the program " and sets out to let the world know what they're missing. The supporting cast is great as well, and the music is the "Soul" of the film. I just wish that the film would be released so that I could get a copy of this for my film library.

After another 5 years I'm still waiting for this tasty bit of film work to be released for those of us who really love this show. Does anyone know who controls the rights to this movie so that we can get it released? I have a copy recorded on VHS when it was broadcast but I would prefer a DVD copy that I can watch over and over again without major deterioration of the crazy antics of the great cast in one of the best "B" movies of all time.Ian McShane is a real joy (As in Lovejoy)which has now being finally released on DVD for those of us who really appreciate his work, and would love to see this gem as well.Perhaps someday,sigh!

Since my last of 2007, it has now been another 4 years, and still this little gem of a movie hasn't been released. Why? There's a great cast and a lot of quirky antics by this great cast to keep you coming back for repeated viewings. I have become a great fan of Ian McShane since I first saw him with Sean Connery as a Swedish Bank robber. This I feel was one of his greatest roles after his "Lovejoy" series. Does anyone know who has the rights for this lovely bit of film work that has been unavailable for 16 years, so that we could get it released? Anyone?

Sorry, my previous rating was 1/10 by mistake! I would love to get this movie somehow.
