          Reel & Real Spectral Phenomenon

Rangeela, released in 1995 was and will ever be one of the finest works of art by a complete team of cast and crew members. From among all the slew of films that were made at that time, this one was the topgun and the undisputed champion. This product is right from the top shelf and even exceeded the great expectations that reviewers have! It is the fusion of the Reel and Real which enables this film to stand on its own philosophy. There are some grand principles and ideas conveyed within the story in a style and manner which even a child can understand and enjoy. This is a terrific combined effort from the team of Aamir Khan, Ram Gopal Varma and AR Rahman. The application of the industry aspects and the in-film director, Steven Kapoor played by Gulshan Grover are so wonderfully plotted that all Jackie Shroff has to do is to fit into the in-film hero which he has done very well. Above all, this is a perfect showcase of Aamir Khan's colorful personality in a role which is almost contrary to his own "known" character. I wonder if anybody else could have pulled out such a performance the way Aamir has done in this film. His humor and style in this film are a display of pure brilliance and true talent. In one statement, this film has a touch of everything and the observant viewer shall catch the theme which he grasps. If the fate of the lovers gets painful, there is always the glamour and dance of Urmila to focus on and when that gets unrealistic, there is the jolt from the blue that transports the watcher out of the dream onto hard reality! A Classic work of art and science (The spectral recording of the soundtracks) from a gem of a team of artists- Rangeela has all the colors of the movie industry within it!

          Aamir, Aamir only Aamir!!!

Rangeela is a nice, significant little movie, consedering it's release time, when it was fit and famous to release bigstar love-stories, along came Rangeela, who dared to be... different.

The story evolves around Munna (Aamir Khan) & Milli (Urmila), Milli is a girl from the city of Mumbai who is a backup dancer in Bollywood movies, Aamir is a tenant who lives in the same apartment as Milli, he is a streetthug who makes a living by selling black cinema tickets. In turn of events Milli ends up with a role in a big Bollywood movie, and the world around her changes. Munna once her best friend, is in love with her but because this new turn in her life, get cut off...

The movie lacks certain grip, the greatest flaw here lays in the editing, the movie moves along smoothly but the editing lacks sharpness.

Other than this the movie is a must watch for every Bollywood fan, the music is marvelous (prehaps one of Rahman's best, next to Taal), the storyline is clever and refreshing, it dares to stand out, and portrays the aspect of love on a whole different level. The acting, the acting is just SUPER!!!, Aamir is the true star of the movie, he outshines everybody in every scene, Aamir has given a performance of a lifetime in the face of Munna. From the "AC idhar ghuma" dialogue to playing hurt from loosing his love to perfection. There is nobody in Bollywood who could have played the role of Munna like Aamir has, Urmila played a nice lovely girl and she did her role justice, Jackie plays a moviestar, but due to lack of meatyness in his character it's not one of his best, but there was no substitute to his charm

I gave this movie a 10, a rare high grade from me, but due to it's flaws Rangeela is and forever will be a Bollywood classics, it's great musical score throughout, the refreshing script and the marvelous acting will forever guarantee that

A must watch for every Bollywood fan, and a piece of art for every Aamir Khan fan.

A good musical with a great performance by Aamir Khan

Rangeela, directed by Ram Gopal Varma (who has made very good and very bad films) is a pretty good musical movie to watch with the family.

Even though the movie had some faults, like a typical and predictable storyline along with some editing mistakes, there were still some good things in this film.

First off, the film itself is clean and more of a family film. It has some pretty funny comedic scenes and I'm sure a lot of kids would enjoy it.

Second, the performances. Urmila Matondkar, who the film is focused on, does a pretty decent and convincing job, and also danced well in the songs. Jackie Shroff had an average performance, his performance was a typical Jackie Shroff performance. Aamir Khan, however, did a great job. In this film he played one of the first tapori street thug type of characters in Bollywood history, and he did very well. He fit in to his character to the finest and maintained the accent and style of his character throughout the film, which is very hard to do. It wows me that this is the same man who was in Andaz Apna Apna the year before. He stole the show for me.

And last, A.R. Rehman's soundtrack. This was one of his finest soundtracks, and all the songs, from "Rangeela Re" to "Yaaron Sun Lo Zaara" were all very melodious, catchy, and overall good songs which helped the film.

Overall this film is a nice film to watch with the family and to watch for Aamir Khan's classic performance.

          Too cool movie

RGV who now does nonsense mostly did some great films till COMPANY and SARKAR

RANGEELA is a true funny movie and a nice romantic movie too

The film also at it's times was perhaps the first movie to show bollywood digs which is now done to death and the digs are damn funny

Even the characterization of Aamir and his love to Urmila is fantastic The film is handled brilliantly only it dips in between with too many songs especially in the second half and also too many sleazy shots of Urmila which were shocking then but it was forgiven too then The climax too is brilliant

Direction by RGV is brilliant Music is a winner Amongst actors Aamir got a huge turning point in this movie, though he was always praised in films like JJWS, QSQT, DIL in between 1993- 1995 after HHRPK he started getting many flops which include the one of the top comedies ANDAZ APNA APNA(1994) where too his comic act was praised but RANGEELA gave him a big hit and he got praised for his role The best part is the way he grabs the nuances of the role and makes a tapori role seem his second skin He is outstanding Urmila too does a good job though at times too over enthusiastic Jackie Shroff however has a shorter role and he does it well but his looks(perhaps now) don't suit the superstar tag Amongst rest Avtar Gill is funny, Achyut Podar is likable and so is Reema Lagoo rest are good too

          Aamir Khan steals every scene

Rangeela is a great musical hindi movie. It is stylishly edited and directed by Ram Gopal Verma which helps quicken the pace between the seven or so songs throughout the movie.

But it is definitely Aamir Khan who steals the show in the movie as an uneducated but street wise slacker. Aamir always chooses challenging roles that are different from the mainstream hindi cinema. He has great talent a great range as an actor and this movie along with Akele Hum Akele Tum are some of his best.

The story is kind of light and predictable, but the songs and urmila will keep you happy.

          • Trivia
It was after the release of Rangeela that Aamir Khan stopped attending Filmfare Awards. He had become upset that he did not win, or even be nominated for, the 1995 Best Actor award for his performance in the film. He also felt that for films like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992) and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) that he should have gotten recognition from Filmfare and after these incidents he became upset with Filmfare. But after failing to receive recognition for Rangeela is when Aamir had had enough and decided to shun Filmfare altogether.
