Exclusive: France’s Studio TF1 has hired Julia Stuart, the former director of original Film at Sky, on a consultancy basis, and appointed Warner Bros. France exec Cristina Batlle as the head of its budding theatrical distribution operation.
The hires follow the rebranding in January of Newen Studios to Studio TF1, followed by an internal restructuring in March, and an announcement that the Paris-based pan-European production and distribution group would be expanding its cinema activities in France and getting behind more ambitious international co-productions.
The strategy is being spearheaded by Pierre Branco, who joined Studio TF1 (then Newen Studios) as CEO in March 2024, after 17 years at Warner Bros. France, where he rose to the position of General Manager France, Benelux and Africa.
Originally acquired by commercial TV giant the TF1 Group in 2015, the rebranded Studio TF1 group encompasses 50 production and distributions labels in 12 territories in Europe and predominantly focuses on audiovisual content.

Netflix has published a letter about an appeal it lodged with France’s Council of State calling out the windowing rules which force the streamer to wait 15 months to access newly released films.
Such rules, which have largely been responsible for the absence of Netflix at the Cannes Film Festival, apply to all pay and free TV channels and subscription-based services. Simply put, their level of investment in theatrical movies determines their access to films after their release in cinemas.
These windowing guidelines are intertwined with France’s application of the E.U.’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive (Avms), which sets local content quotas for streamers across Europe starting 2022. Back then, Netflix was the only streamer to sign a three-year agreement to invest 20% of its revenues in France on local content. As such, the streamer gained an access to films 15 months after their theatrical release rather than the 36-month wait that applied previously.

Created by Miguel Sáez Carral and Isa Sánchez, Raising Voices (or Ni una más as it was known in Spanish regions) told the story of 17-year-old Alma and her friends Greta and Nata who have their lives flipped upside down after discovering a sign outside their school proclaiming a rapist was within the school gates. All eight episodes dropped on Netflix globally on May 31st, 2024. Nicole Wallace, Clara Galle, Aïcha Villaverde, and Teresa de Mera were among the cast.
Following the end of Raising Voices, there had been some speculation of potential season 2 plans, but ultimately, most outlets landed on the series being a one-and-done situation. That said, Netflix uploaded the season with the “Season 1” label, as evidenced by the weekly top 10 reports for the series and on the tracker site NewonNetflix.info. Likewise, in checking all the pre-release materials for Raising Voices, there were no mentions of it being a limited series.

In 2023, Netflix released one of its best limited series, Class Act. Created by Oliver Demangel and Tristan Séguéla, Class Act follows the life of Bernard Tapie, a controversial French entrepreneur, entertainer, and politician. It's a larger-than-life true story and one of the most entertaining rise-and-fall tales put on screen in recent years. The show was met with solid reception and captured the imagination of subscribers everywhere.
While the series mostly adheres to the truth about Bernard Tapie's life, the producers have admitted to fictionalizing certain aspects, and the show also omits key details. Bernard condemned the miniseries before it was released, and his family has spoken out against it in the press. Regardless, Class Act is a captivating portrayal of power, corruption, and ambition, offering an absorbing look into a fascinating life that many outside of France are unfamiliar with.

Updated with complete winners list: Despite being up for four acting category awards, The Crown‘s final season left the BAFTA TV Awards empty handed tonight in London.
Elizabeth Debicki, Lesley Manville, Salim Daw and Dominic West were all snubbed, as the the likes of Matthew Macfadyen, Jasmine Jobson, Timothy Spall and Sarah Lancashire all triumphed and the Netflix show went out quietly.
There was also a major surprise in the International category, where little-known French drama Class Act beat the likes of Beef, The Bear and The Last of Us to win the prize. Among the most shocked was the show’s star Laurent Lafitte, who urged the audience to find and watch his show — to the amusement of the audience.

The bell-ringing, hateful-faced Don Hector Salamanca had no shortage of enemies in Breaking Bad and its prequel Better Call Saul, but cast members and creatives from both series are remembering actor Mark Margolis fondly today. The stage and screen veteran died Thursday at 83, and tributes are all over social media from the likes of Bryan Cranston, Bob Odenkirk, Peter Gould, Michael Mando and others.
“I am very saddened today to learn of a friend’s passing,” multiple Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star Cranston wrote on Instagram. “Mark Margolis was a really good actor and a lovely human being. Fun and engaging off the set (and in the case of Breaking Bad and Your Honor), intimidating and frightening on set. His quiet nature belied his mischievous nature and curious mind…and he loved sharing a good joke. I miss him already. Rest now, Mark and thank you for your friendship and your exceptional body of work.

"You forgot one thing. I'm indestructible." Netflix has revealed the trailer for the French streaming series Class Act, which is the offical English name. The original French title is Tapie, which is the name of the person this biopic series is about, but he might not be that well recognized outside of France. A relentlessly ambitious working-class man becomes one of France's most controversial public figures in this fictionalized biopic about Bernard Tapie, starring César nominee Laurent Lafitte. "It revisits the origins of the Tapie phenomenon, who didn’t start off quite so well, between a career in music cut short, small business issues, meeting Dominique, and his difficult relationship with his parents... In all this, his relentless determination, carried by a completely possessed performance by Lafitte." The cast includes Joséphine Japy, Ophélia Kolb, Ivan Murphy, Antoine Reinartz, Hakim Jemili, Camille Chamoux, and Fabrice Luchini. Looks like France's version of the businessman's rise & fall story.

Last week, we posted a list of five forgotten actors we’d like to see make a comeback, and the reaction was so strong, we decided to post a bunch more! There’s a ton of forgotten actors from the 80s and 90s we’d love to have back on our screen, so let’s take a look at another group of them today.
Kelly Jo Minter
Let’s start with a horror favorite and a regular presence on the convention circuit, Kelly Jo Minter. Most folks will remember her from A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, The People Under the Stairs, and a slew of television series appearances. She was everywhere for a while in the 1980s and 1990s, then projects started becoming further and further apart, with nothing between 2008 and 2019, then nothing since. This actress is beloved by many people, and she should get a new part,...

Dubai, Aug 28 (Ians) Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman on Sunday walked off after nicking the ball to the wicketkeeper despite any serious appeal from the Indian team during a high-intensity Asia Cup 2022 clash here, earning praise from fans on social media.
Pakistan were put in to bat first by Rohit Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar had given India an early breakthrough with the wicket of Babar Azam. The Babar Azam-led Pakistan were struggling to go big in the first six overs when Avesh Khan came in to bowl the last over of the Powerplay.
Mohammad Rizwan, who was on nine off 17 balls at that point, took the pacer on for a six and a four off successive deliveries, but the momentum shifted again in the over when Zaman edged one to the wicketkeeper off the penultimate ball.
While there was little to no appeal from the Indians, Zaman started walking off, prompting...

In a video on Instagram Monday, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recounted her harrowing experience during the Capitol riot incited by Donald Trump on Jan. 6. But among the thousands of people watching was actor and comedian Michael Rapaport who, for some reason, took issue with her depiction of events.
So, while Aoc described what she saw and heard during the deadly uprising, Rapport peppered the comments on the video with derisive rhetorical questions and dismissively exasperated reactions.
Among the details shared by Aoc in the new video, which you can watch here, she said she and her staff took shelter in the office of fellow Democrat Katie Porter and remained there for hours. At one point, Aoc said she could hear someone nearby yell repeatedly, “where is she? Where is she?” “This is the moment where I thought everything was over,” she said. “I thought I was going to die.”

They're ready to face the world together! Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham may have caused a lot of controversy on the Bachelor finale on March 6, but they both seem way too in love to care. There's a reason why Padma Lakshmi refuses to hide scars. If you've ever watched Top Chef then you've most likely noticed a large scar on her right arm. The 47-year-old host doesn't try to hide it during filming. And honestly, why should she? Instead, she views the changes to her body from a serious car crash as a teenager, a freak cooking accident, and endometriosis as reminders to how precious life is. "My body is almost a map of my life, for good and bad," she explained to Self in 2016. But, she hasn't always felt that way — there was a time when she felt the need to conceal them. "When I was young, I tended to be more self-conscious about my stretch marks from growing, or the scar on my arm from my car accident." A post shared by Padma Lakshmi (@padmalakshmi) on Feb 20, 2018 at 5:05am Pst When she was 14-years-old,...

One of the hardest bouts of growing pains experienced by adolescents is that rite of passage known as the high school experience. In high school one is subject to discovering their own sense of self-identity and purpose. In fact, sometimes the social factor is crucial because the cost of belonging in social-related circles is vital in a four-year commitment to belonging among your peers.
The tension is high to belong and get along as your search for excellence in good grades, social interaction and the overall learning experience is important. However, not every youngster can cope with what they are faced as the obstacles to excel are demanding in high school. Hence, the potential to become “an outsider” is inevitable and the unlikeliest label that no one can overcome no matter how much they try.
