Hilary Swank’s Emmys 2025 episode submission for ‘Yellowjackets’ revealed
Image
Hilary Swank is ready to fight for her Emmy. Gold Derby has confirmed the two-time Oscar winner will be submitted in the guest drama actress category for her knock-out performance in Showtime's Yellowjackets.

The episode submission will be Swank's first appearance on the series: Season 3, Episode 8, titled "A Normal, Boring Life." She plays Melissa, Shauna's (Melanie Lynskey) wilderness girlfriend who was presumed dead after a supposed suicide. Very much alive, and going by the name Kelly, Melissa now lives a quiet married life in Virginia — and her new family is totally unaware of her cannibalistic past.

Melissa's ideal life is upended when she's discovered by a knife-wielding Shauna, whom Melissa finds lurking in her kitchen pantry. During the intense reunion, Shauna accuses Melissa of various misdeeds, including killing their friend Lottie (Simone Kessel). Swank-as-Melissa fires back, "You stew and you seethe, and you make it everyone else's problem...

ABC’s Tgif Creator Clarifies Acronym Didn’t Stand For “Thank God It’s Friday”
Image
ABC’s Tgif programming block had viewers hoping for Friday nights to watch their favorite sitcom.

Over the years, many people believed the acronym stood for “Thank God It’s Friday.” However, in a new interview, Jim Janicek, who help create the programming block, clarified that the letters stood for “Thank Goodness It’s Funny.”

“We were talking about things like the ‘Friday Fun Club,'” Janicek said on Pod Meets World about the names they considered before Tgif. “There’s a whole list somewhere I probably could dig up, but I remember that one. You know, ‘It’s Friday Night.’ Lots of little short-isms.”

Janicek recalled that the network’s executives were initially worried that using Tgif would cause problems with a chain of restaurants.

“We did our first animation, which kinda was more childlike, with a little mouse called Friday the Mouse. We were animating that with a guy...

Tina Majorino: Where Deb From Napoleon Dynamite Is Now
Image
Deb is part of a trio of quirky high schoolers in 2004's Napoleon Dynamite. Deb, a shy friend of Napoleon, sells trinkets and offers glamour photos to pay for college. Tina Majorino, who played Deb, also starred in Veronica Mars, showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Deb in Napoleon Dynamite is one-third of the strangest and funniest trio of high schoolers that has ever appeared in an indie film. Released in 2004, Napoleon Dynamite is the quintessential quirky high school comedy that millennials are still quoting to this day. Its listless story, aimless characters, and general lack of conflict make it a hard film to grasp, yet, it's one of the funniest movies of the 2000s and an unexpectedly heartfelt story. It's almost like the Napoleon Dynamite filmmakers took a camera, planted it in Idaho, and just presented what they caught.

Some may say it's not their cup of tea, but...

Whatever Happened To Enola Actress Tina Majorino From Waterworld?
Image
In the 1995 movie "Waterworld," Kevin Costner was the draw in more ways than one. To much of the audience, he was still the glamorous movie star who had managed to pull off a blockbuster "Robin Hood" movie despite his inability to successfully nail an English accent. To others, he seemed like he might be a potential trainwreck on the verge of derailment. "Waterworld" had fallen victim to many behind-the-scenes tales of sinking sets, director fights, and Costner rewriting the script to make himself look better. Ultimately, for one reason or another, enough people were curious about the film that it turned a profit. However difficult he may have been behind the scenes, the star turned out to still have it.

Within the movie, however, the person everyone wants to see is Enola, a nine year-old girl whose back tattoo features an encoded map to the last bit of dry land on a post-climate change world.

Alaska Daily Cast & Character Guide: Where You've Seen The Actors Before
Image
"Alaska Daily" was a crime drama that tackled the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women in Alaska, but it was unfortunately canceled before gaining momentum. The show struggled to balance the sensibilities of a network procedural and a more mature streaming show, but it provided valuable insights into the work of journalists reporting on marginalized communities. The talent of the cast, including Hilary Swank, Jeff Perry, and other notable actors, was undeniable, adding to the potential of the series despite its tonal issues.

The cast of Alaska Daily includes popular television and film actors as well as a notable Oscar winner in its ensemble cast. Alaska Daily is an ABC crime drama that follows Eileen Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank), a New York journalist who comes to a small newsroom in Anchorage, Alaska to have a fresh start after personal and professional problems in NYC force her to leave. In Alaska,...

The Top 10 Actors Who Should Return To TV
By Rachel Bennett

Television Editor & Columnist

***

Movies used to be gold standard for actors, with George Clooney, Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio leaving the small screen for the big to achieve great professional and financial success.

However, times are changing, and many actors who left TV to work in movies are coming back, including Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams and Michael J. Fox. Due to the addition of cable and subscription-based original programming, better roles are being created that will give actors a chance for the recognition, awards and job security that movies no longer provide. Just look at Claire Danes, who returned to TV to star in Showtime’s Homeland, for which she’s nominated for an Emmy.

There are several actors who should return to TV, but not all of them will. Take a look at the top 10 TV stars who’ve left TV but should return:

10. America Ferrera...
