    Terrific piece of work

This is a terrific documentary that follows the lives of five very different teenaged girls over the course of a full year. And as in any good documentary, it doesn't take long for the viewer to start caring about the subjects who are being followed. In a short amount of time, you really get the feeling that you know a lot about these girls, and you can't help but hope for the best for each and every one of them. This film is at times hilarious, at other times is sad, and is engrossing to the point that I eagerly await a sequel.

    Very entertaining

I watched this movie as part of a course assignment and I must say it's one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. Being born in the late 80s and growing up with similar problems or concerns as these girls, it was very refreshing to see something realistic and consistent throughout these girls's lives. I love how each girl is unique and there is a trait among all girls that is similar to you. As an older adolescent I found some of the situations extremely funny or sad and I just wanted to befriend the girls, definitely meet them and see how they turned out.

I'll be thinking about where these girls are now, decades later and if they still look back at their year caught on camera. Very memorable and clingy story.

    Excellent Documentary - Pre-Reality TV

It's been well over 10 years since I first saw this documentary in theatres and it is still one of the best reality-based feature-length films I've seen. Remember that back in 1991 there was no reality TV and the Internet was not popular, so this documentary (and Talk 19 which followed) was very ahead of its time. The cast of girls are so candid it's almost startling. You become very attached to each of their stories as the film progresses. Each story is captivating. As a rebellious teen myself, I could relate to some of the girls' stories.

I looked online for any kind of follow-up on the girls' lives after filming Talk 19, but no luck.
