    Classy TV thriller

Donna Mills gives a powerful performance as a woman wrongfully jailed for murder in this pacey TV movie. The amazing thing is that it was based on a real life story. Robert Wagner is totally believable as her creep of a husband and I think this is one of the best TV Movies I've ever seen.

Acting is okay for the time; Horrible writing.

Disappointed. This could have been a great movie. With the right studio support, this story is worth producing a remake version.

Andrew Laskos (Bill LaMond) is at fault for this HORRIBLE script and depiction of characters. I have done extensive research on the cases related to the Redmond/Phelps murders. A large number of details are either missing, incorrect, or overly exaggerated.

The over dramatization in the first 20 minutes is enough to make you gag. Mills does a decent job with the crappy script she was given but what bothered me was the saint-like character they made Joyce out to be. Nobody is that pure.

Again, good story but the movie could have been so much better.

don't cry for my karen Argentina!

While every year we hear about wrongfully convicted innocent men ,especially black guys , been locked up for 30+y , now this ! They have casted the most possible petit fragile blonde who could cry for 3hr ,while shivering in fears of execution ! 🤔 just google the real person yourself ! This's too polished perspective , smells highly in self victimization , begging for public outcry ... a business woman , who has mobster connection in 1980 , threatening to do specific act of violence ,...based on script itself , doesn't match with a cuty bunny acting 🎭 the protagonist ! ... No! I've no prejudice against neither race-gender , But after watching this,it will make you think about what was considered as justice and privileged , if not today , at least in 80's 90's 😮😐 all black or colored characters casted as Criminals , lying ,... , You'll hear the character ,joicy screaming over&over ,that she's not belong to jail , but nobody asking her what makes you so special ?! The whole town , mayor , justice development , ... everyone has left their coffee and sandwiches down , rushing 24-7 to help the rich blonde , funny how movie only mentions mobsters names and relations but quickly move on ! Or how the news of execution of those 3 , just shows as a 3 second announcement on the tv news ! But we must tortured for 3+ hours more than whatever took the trials terms ! Chatgpt suggested this kangaroo movie to me , while I was asked it , about movies w unfair trials ! This was on the top of the list 🙄😶

    By-the-numbers movie-of-the-weak

At least some veteran actors get to have fun in this formula-driven, by-the-numbers, based-on-a-true-story, made-for-Lifetime TV movie. Donna Mills is up to the emotional task when she realizes who her betrayer is and why. Brian Bonsall has a decent bit. Amy Aquino and Steven Bauer are excellent in their roles. But, there's nothing new or particularly interesting here.

On November 16, 2022, Murray Hooper, one of the three hired killers of William "Pat" Redmond and his mother-in-law Helen Phelps, was executed after being on death row for more than four decades since his conviction of the New Year's Eve 1980 murders. His accomplices, Edward Lonzo McCall, Jr. and William Bracy, were also sentenced to death, but preceded Hooper in death before their executions were carried out. McCall died on February 18, 2000 and Bracy died of cancer on April 9, 2005. Robert Charles Cruz, a former businessman and the accused mastermind behind the killings, was initially tried, convicted, and sentenced to die as well, but his sentences were overturned in October 1983. Inside of 10 years, Cruz's case had two mistrials and another conviction that was overturned in July 1993 on a technicality. Cruz was tried a fifth time on June 1, 1995 and was exonerated. Eventually, Cruz moved back to Chicago to be with his four sons. Two years later, in December 1997, Cruz went missing. Earlier that year, Cruz had convinced a relative who was reputed to be a Chicago Mob hit man on trial for murder to hire his former attorney to represent him. However, the hit man was convicted and sentenced to more than 100 years in prison. Days after the conviction, Cruz disappeared. In March 2007, human remains were found wrapped in a blue tarp in Downers Grove, Illinois, a southwest suburb of Chicago. The remains were confirmed as Cruz's and he was identified through fingerprints and tattoos. Law enforcement sources reported that Cruz had been shot. His death was investigated as a murder.
