80's time capsule--Van Dyke Parks fans will enjoy...

"Quirky" doesn't begin to describe this. If you're not in the mood for this, you may well find it intensely annoying, but if you relax there's much to enjoy for adults as well as kids (my 5-year-old daughter adores it). It's a veritable Who's Who of 80's pop culture (remember Pia Zadora??). In fact, the lead actor Dan Gilroy is about the only one I didn't recognize, although he does a fine job. The acting is at once broad and deadpan, with lots of wordplay and bad puns.

Fans of the cult musician/composer (and former child actor--see "The Swan" with Grace Kelly) Van Dyke Parks will take special pleasure in his whimsical score; Van Dyke even acts in this one. Director Jeff Stein ("The Kids Are Alright") has his 80s MTV video skills down (fans of the fish-eye lens will have a ball), but the story meanders to a pleasant conclusion, and if it's not your cup of tea, you can at least enjoy "spot the cameo" (look! It's Dweezil Zappa!).

    For children of all ages!

This movie has it all: famous faces from the film, tv, and music industries playing Nursery Rhyme characters. Who wouldn't want to see Little Richard as Old King Cole, Howie Mandel dressed in an egg costume as Humpty Dumpty, and The Stray Cats dressed as a musical cat band (literally). I know everyone in my family has always loved watching it. I think you will too!

    Best Movie Ever Made!

This has been my favorite movie ever since I was 2. My mom taped it when it aired in 1990, and I've watched it ever since. Watching it over and over again makes it the funniest movie I've ever seen. I recommend this to children and even adults because it is very entertaining. Believe it or not, there are many famous people in this movie as well.

This movie is a special cloud

Mere words cannot justify the meaning and social commentary that this film makes. It personifies the isolated feeling from "reality" that all humans feel from time to time, and as a bonus does so with our favorite pop culture sock, movie and TV stars! Where else can you see Cyndi Lauper with, Pia Zedora, Katey Sagal, Harry Anderson (sorry, no magic tricks), Paul Simon, The Stray Cats, Art Garfunkel, ZZ Top, and Woody Harrelson dressed as a cigar smoking sheep? Maybe in Rhymeland...

you have got to see this...

i remember this movie from when i was a kid... it makes a lot more sense now, but it is an amazing movie. its a lot of fun, and if you haven't seen Debbie harry as the old woman who lives in a shoe,Cheech Merin as a carnival guy, and Paul Simon as Simple Simon, then you haven't really seen a good movie. i can only imagine how much fun that movie was to make. . . i remember watching it nearly every day after school, and i still use quotes from the movie. . . you have to see this movie if you haven't already. its not necessarily an "A" list movie, but it is a movie that is so funny, and so much fun, that even if a critic wouldn't suggest it, its too much fun to turn away from.
