A new and exciting version of the animated Tom & Jerry is being brought to the theaters in the near future by Warner Bros. The studio was at the receiving end of significant criticism from fans of these classic cartoons after Coyote vs Acme‘s treatment. The film, which was on sale since February 2024, was sold to Ketchup Entertainment in March 2025.
Many fans almost believed that Warner Bros. would distance itself from these kinds of projects involving cartoon characters. However, WB Animation has doubled down on the classics, announcing not only a theatrical Tom & Jerry film but also theatrical versions of The Flintstones and Looney Tunes.

At this point, one could write an entire book on all the milestones "The Simpsons" has achieved. Since its premiere on Fox in 1989, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie continue to leave their mark on popular culture as perhaps the most famous family in television history. With nearly 800 episodes through 36 seasons, one feature-length film, almost 30 video games, numerous comic book adaptations, and an attraction at Universal theme parks, it is increasingly likely that this franchise will continue to break records long after most of us are gone.
Unless you're as clueless as Ralph Wiggum, you're likely aware of at least a few of the most notable milestones "The Simpsons" has set. In 1997, it reached 167 episodes, surpassing "The Flintstones" to have the highest number of episodes produced for an animated series. Along with remaining the longest-running animated series and sitcom in American television history, "The Simpsons" broke the record as the longest-running scripted American primetime series,...

Max almost wants nothing to do with the Looney Tunes brand these days, as most of t he franchise's content has been scrubbed from the streaming service. However, fans will be able to watch some of the removed Looney Tunes programming for free at its new streaming home.
This week, it was revealed that Max flushed 255 episodes of the original Looney Tunes cartoons, leaving very little left from the franchise still available to watch. This follows previous removals that had already been done with the Looney Tunes franchise months ago, which included some of the other classic episodes along with the two-season reboot, The Looney Tunes Show, which originally aired on Cartoon Network between 2011 and 2013. As one of the essential forms of entertainment for viewers of all ages, cartoons have long provided laughs and engaging stories for fans in both films and television series. At the same time, several iconic figures have been created out of the animation landscape and have gone on to become staples of pop culture through multiple adaptations in media, however, for as many stand-out characters in the media zeitgeist, there are also forgotten cartoon characters who were once admired.
Whether due to a lack of corporate investment or artistic relevancy, some old-school cartoon characters have faded to time without so much as a proper sendoff, which speaks to how rapidly the animation industry changes and how quickly the general public is to find a newer piece of entertainment. What’s more, despite these figures becoming a bygone product, each character still has great value for entertaining audiences and could reclaim some notoriety.

John Goodman sustained a hip injury during the production of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s latest film starring Tom Cruise, which has delayed filming in the U.K. for Warner Bros, Variety has confirmed.
“Actor John Goodman experienced a hip injury,” a Warner Bros. spokesperson said in a statement. “He received immediate medical attention that led to a brief delay in shooting to allow him time to recover. The production resumes shooting next week following John’s full recovery.”
Variety exclusively reported in October that production for Iñárritu’s untitled project was to kick off in the U.K. in November. The film is the director’s first English-language movie since 2016’s “The Revenant,” which earned Leonardo DiCaprio his first and only Oscar. Iñárritu also serves as producer and penned the script with Sabina Berman and “Birdman” co-writers Nicolas Giacobone and Alexander Dinelaris. Plot details remain under wraps.

The longest-running scripted American television series of all time is "The Simpsons," an adult animated show created by Matt Groening. Premiering in 1989, "The Simpsons" changed things as a cartoon that isn't exclusively geared toward younger audiences and also reinvented the sitcom format. The series showcased a modern middle-class family, loving yet utterly dysfunctional, while getting in plenty of mischief along the way. The show both tonally echoed contemporary sitcoms at the time of its debut and went on to inspire countless animated series that followed it.
With "The Simpsons" such an enduring and influential fixture in American television, there are a multitude of shows like it. Whether animated or in live-action, there are plenty of sitcoms that share DNA with Groening's masterpiece. At the core of most of these shows is a family, either biological or surrogate, defined by their differences and offbeat love for one another, marked with plenty of laughs.

As awards season rumbles ever onwards, Edward Berger’s Conclave takes the top prize at this year’s BAFTA ceremony.
It was the 2025 BAFTA cermony last night and this rather strange awards season continued with Edward Berger’s Conclave taking home the Best Film prize in a category that has been largely dominated by speculation about its rivals. However, the papal election drama landed Best Film, Best British Film, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing gongs.
Also enjoying a good night at the ceremony was The Brutalist with the film scoring four awards – Best Director for Brady Corbet, Best Actor for Adrien Brody, not to mention Best Score (and what a score it is!) and Best Cinematography.
Sean Baker’s Anora landed Best Actress for Mikey Madison and Best Casting too. Dune: Part Two was awarded Best VFX and Best Sound, two prizes to honour what was an incredible technical achievement.

It’s a sad day in Eternia as news about the passing of John Erwin, the voice actor behind He-Man, Morris the Cat, and other notable pop culture icons. Erwin, a Saturday morning staple of the 1960s, ’70s, and ’80s, died last month of natural causes at his home in Camarillo, California. He was 88. Celebworx, the PR firm representing Mr. Erwin, announced his death this Friday afternoon.
Few people of the Elder Millenial generation (people born between 1980 and 1985) grew up without hearing John Erwin as He-man, Master of the Universe, match wits with Skeletor (Alan Oppenheimer) while battling the forces of evil. In addition to voicing He-Man and the Archie Comics character Reggie, Erwin played the unenthusiastic spokescat for 9Lives brand cat food, Morris the Cat. In the promos, Morris, a large orange tabby tomcat, snarkily remarked about being uninterested in anything except when it came to a delicious can of 9Lives cat food.

The best cartoon girl duos have ensured that generations of young women fell in love with animation as a medium. What’s more, pairings of female characters also account for some of the most iconic presences in cartoons and animation of all time. While male duos and boy-girl teams in cartoons are common, the world of animation is surprisingly light on pairs of female characters. Girls in cartoons tend to come in trios, groups, or on their own. However, this only ensures that the very best cartoon girl duos stand out.

Even if it's been more 24 years since it hit movie theaters in 2000, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas endures as Christmas classic for those who watched it as children. It isn't hyperbolic to say that this adaptation of Dr. Seuss' timeless Christmas book owes its entire legacy to Jim Carrey, who famously donned some of the most intricate and painful prosthetics in movie history to bring the green grouch to life. To this day, people fondly remember Carrey's performance and quote some of his more memorable lines.
But like anything that's been heralded as a nostalgic staple these days, the sheer reverence for The Grinch begs the question of whether it was actually a good movie, or if it was just put on a pedestal by those blinded by rose-colored, holiday-themed spectacles. This is especially the case when the movie's contemporary lukewarm reception is taken into account. Devoid of...

The creation of Q, the trickster god first seen on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," was not born entirely of creative necessity. It seems that back in 1986, when "Next Generation" was still being developed, there was some debate whether the pilot episode — called "Encounter at Farpoint" — would be an hour long, 90 minutes, or a full two hours. If the show was 90 minutes, then teleplay writer D.C. Fontana would be paid a negotiated rate. If it was two hours, she would get a bonus.
Show creator Gene Roddenberry encouraged Fontana to keep the "Farpoint" script to 90 minutes, and she happily complied. But then, without working with Fontana, Roddenberry swept in and wrote 30 additional minutes of "bookend material" for the episode, expanding it to two hours. The "bookend material" was actually all the scenes involving Q. Roddenberry, because he was now the co-author of "Farpoint," got the aforementioned bonus, and Fontana did not.

Doug Widley 1964 animated series "Jonny Quest," animated by Hanna-Barbera, only lasted 26 episodes, but for Gen-Xers, it may seem like a lot more. Thanks to a series of sweet, sweet syndication deals, along with the clever remixing and repackaging of the company's 1960s and 1970s shows, Hanna-Barbera cartoons remained in reruns for decades, allowing new generations to grow up watching "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?," "The Flintstones," and, uh, "Jabberjaw." For kids of the 1980s, not a Saturday slipped past without several Hanna-Barbera shows making their way into our eyeballs, often entirely by accident.
"Jonny Quest" always seemed to make its way into my generation's cartoon rotation, and many viewers my age became very fond of the show's chintzy, stilted animation, thick-lines drawing style, and stock "laser" sound effects. The premise was the stuff of boy's adventure novels: Jonny Quest (Tim Matheson) was an 11-year-old wunderkind who was skilled in martial arts,...

Long before the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe competed with each other in a series of superhero films, Jim Carrey starred in a career-defining role in the comic book adaptation of The Mask. 30 years later, he addressed the possibility of another installment.
1994 was a big year for Carrey, who debuted three films that have since become cult classics: Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and The Mask. One year later, he continued his superhero adventure with the role of The Riddler in 1995's Batman Forever, but it was his role in The Mask that allowed him to change the superhero game while proving his acting skills with a character that had two different personalities. 30 years after the film's premiere, Jim Carrey told ComicBook he would be interested in a sequel with a very understandable condition.

The Flintstones movie wasn’t well-received by critics when it hit theaters in 1994, but 30 years later, it looks surprisingly great compared to today’s soulless live-action remakes of classic animation. Executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, The Flintstones adapts the iconic Hanna-Barbera cartoon about suburban cavemen into live-action. John Goodman stars as Fred Flintstone alongside Rick Moranis as his best friend Barney Rubble and Elizabeth Perkins as his wife Wilma. Although it was a huge box office success, The Flintstones was met with mostly negative reviews from critics.
It has a dismal “rotten” score of 23% on Rotten Tomatoes, and publications like The Washington Post, The New York Times, and Rolling Stone named it as one of the worst movies of 1994. At the time, The Flintstones was considered a cinematic embarrassment. When The Jetsons premiered in 1962, it wasn’t just a TV show; it was a vision of tomorrow.
As the first animated series broadcast in color during prime time, it dazzled audiences with its kaleidoscope of futuristic dreams — flying cars, robot maids, and video calls that felt light-years ahead of their time.
Against the backdrop of the space race and post-war optimism, The Jetsons reflected a cultural moment bursting with hope for a better, tech-driven tomorrow.
(ABC/Screenshot)
Unlike other sitcoms of the era, The Jetsons wasn’t just about gadgets — it was about humanity.
By blending science fiction with the everyday quirks of family life, the show made the future feel both aspirational and relatable.
George Jetson was a harried husband juggling a demanding boss and a family; Jane Jetson managed a household with technological flair; and their kids, Judy and Elroy, had all the typical adolescent drama –just with jetpacks.

There are actors who define a period of time in the eyes of audiences, who star in groundbreaking, hugely influential projects that are beloved years after they are released, and whose screen presence makes them unforgettable.
One of those actors is Rick Moranis. For many '80s and '90s kids, Moranis was a face greatly familiar to them, a source of comfort in family friendly movies like "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" or their guide into the world of more risqué movies with adult themes and humor like "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Spaceballs." It didn't matter the tone or the genre, Moranis was consistently funny, endearing, and charming -- whether as an innocent floral shop worker who discovers a talking, singing carnivorous plant, or a Darth Vader spoof with plans for world domination (and a penchant for silly ties).

Not far off from the ultimate surprise leaderboard is Cartoon Network bringing back an old favorite in the way of a marathon run on Dec. 14. If this happens, it will be the first time that the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned will be showing viewers a glimpse of the modern stone age family.

Adult amination is an incredibly lucrative genre and allows certain shows to branch out of the confines of realism and explore the world from an entirely different perspective. For example, Futurama gives viewers the chance to experience the turn of the 31st century, whereas Family Guy delivers countless absurd cutaway scenes to ensure that the jokes just keep on flowing. As such, though this genre is not to everyone's taste, it has managed to stand at the forefront of primetime television for decades.
Though a lot of audiences assume that these shows were inspired by The Simpsons, which first premiered in 1989, their inspiration was much older. The Flintstones first aired in 1960 and is often labeled as the first adult animated sitcom.

Back in 1990, when "The Simpsons" was only in its second season, show creator Matt Groening had already begun floating ideas for a sci-fi/comedy companion series. He even went on record with the corollary that his new show would be to "The Simpsons" what "The Jetsons" was to "The Flintstones." Groening spent several years turning the idea over in his head before finally approaching "Simpsons" writer David X. Cohen about the possibility of co-creating something together. The two slowly developed many ideas and invented a cast of new characters to live in the futuristic, robot-and-alien-crowded world of A.D. 3000. Some of the original titles for the series included "Aloha, Mars!" and "Doomsville." The show was also initially conceived to be bleaker and more dystopian than it ended up being; every corner was outfitted with a coin-operated suicide booth.

In the "Gilligan's Island" episode "New Neighbor Sam," the castaways begin hearing mysterious voices from the bushes. Suspecting there are other people on the island, several of them go to investigate and discover -- after some slapstick shenanigans, of course -- that the voices were all coming from a talking macaw. The macaw identifies itself as Sam, and the Professor (Russell Johnson) tries to get the bird to say more, hoping to glean more information as to where it came from. The macaw also speaks like a gangster, so the Professor figures it must have once belonged to a career criminal, but somehow escaped and flew to their island.
The Professor's suspicions are confirmed when Sam steals a diamond belonging to Mrs. Howell (Natalie Schafer) and tries to abscond with it. Clearly, this macaw knows about jewels. Eventually, the castaways find the cave where the parrot had been hiding, and...

Matt Groening first started thinking about making "Futurama" as early as 1990, when "The Simpsons" was still only in its second season. "The Simpsons," recall, was an instant hit when it debuted in 1989, and it rattled the zeitgeist enough to invite comparisons to "The Flintstones," the last primetime animated sitcom of major note. Little did Groening know at the time that it would outstrip "The Flintstones" in duration and popularity several times over.
Also, just as "The Flintstones" spawned its own sci-fi "sister series" in "The Jetsons," Groening felt that "The Simpsons" should have its own comedy/sci-fi counterpart. Groening has long been a fan of old science-fiction movies, and he long had an interest in starting his own sci-fi series. He wouldn't get his wish for another nine years, but "Futurama" debuted on March 28, 1999, finally fulfilling the process. It wasn't...

Seth MacFarlane is most famous for creating (and voice acting in) crass comedy cartoons like "Family Guy" and "American Dad." His love for animation was sparked by primetime TV's first cartoon sitcom, "The Flintstones," but animation is not MacFarlane's only passion -- he also loves show tunes and musicals.
Indeed, MacFarlane's all-time favorite movie is "The Sound of Music," Robert Wise's 1965 musical epic starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. As he put it to Wired when revealing his favorite film, "Can you believe that? Who would've thought? 'The Sound of motherf***ing Music.'"
"The Sound of Music" adapted the 1959 stage musical of the same name, which itself was based on the true story of the Austrian Von Trapp family, a family of singers who escaped their Nazi-conquered homeland in 1938. Andrews plays the future Mrs. Von Trapp, Maria. Initially a free-spirited nun sent to be a governess to Captain...

The Simpsons is perhaps the most defining work of American comedy within the last several decades, and it is amazing to think that the series is still quite popular so many years later. There was simply nothing to compare The Simpsons to when it first aired in 1989, as the only notion that animation could be a medium intended for adults was seen in popular adventure shows like The Jetsons and The Flintstones.

Hold onto your T-bones, your favorite prehistoric bunch is coming back. That's right, The Flintstones will be returning to their animated origins in the near future. At the Warner Bros. Animation Panel at LightBox on October 25, the production company announced that they would be bringing the primitive pack back for a new animated project called Meet The Flintstones. Todd Wilderman and Hamish Grieve, the latter of whom is known for his work on Aardman Animation's Flushed Away, are working on a new story for your favorite animated dum-dums.
Warner Bros. has had a rocky past trying to recreate the classic 1960s family animated show in modern media. A truly great TV crossover has the power to surprise and enthrall viewers as characters they would never have imagined interacting with one another share the same space. Crossovers can be a great way to introduce viewers to TV shows they may not have otherwise seen by giving them a glimpse into characters' personas while remaining within a show they already know and love. However, a bad crossover can also feel overly forced, as characters who dont meld well are unnaturally required to come together for an episode, special, TV movie, or non-canonical scene.
The best TV crossovers usually contain an element of surprise as they showcase whats unique and enjoyable about a particular show while seamlessly blending it with another one. In other instances, crossovers have been less overt, and clever ways have been found to include characters or styles from one show and put them into the other...

Part Full House, part The Flintstones, part All in the Family, part well, nothing we'd seen before on TV, Dinosaurs roared onto ABC in April 1991, a brontosaurus-sized hit from the start. One of Jim Henson's last projects before his death, the premise of the series, borne out of The Simpsons and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (we'll explain shortly), is pretty straightforward: "a sitcom, but about a family of dinosaurs." If you haven't seen it, you really should. And if you have, rediscover one of television's unique, nightmarish, yet heartwarming series.

Animated sitcoms have carved out their own niche within the landscape of television, and the genre has evolved a lot over the years. Starting with shows like The Flintstones and The Jetsons in the 1960s, animated sitcoms presented a novel variation on a tired format. Animation allowed these shows to tell stories and jokes that would be impossible in traditional live-action sitcoms. After shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park became popular in the 1990s, animated sitcoms took another big leap forward, with shows focused solely on adults.
Nowadays, animated sitcoms are more common than ever before, since advances in technology have made them quicker and easier to make. The genre has opened up to allow for original and creative concepts, many of which do things which live-action isn't built to do. Modern classics like Rick and Morty and BoJack Horseman showcase all the fast-paced fun of animation,...

Classic '80s film "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" had a talented cast, including Rick Moranis, who still occasionally acts. The movie's enjoyable tone and memorable actors, like Marcia Strassman, helped make it a hit despite its special effects. Where are the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids cast members now? Some continue acting, while others moved on to different careers.
The Honey, I Shrunk the Kids cast features an impressive group of veterans and newcomers. Produced by Walt Disney, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids follows inventor Wayne Szalinski (Rick Moranis), who accidentally miniaturizes his own kids and those of his next-door neighbors after inventing a shrinking ray. Using lavish set pieces and state-of-the-art technology, the movie brought the audience along for a big-scale, micro-level adventure unlike anything they had seen before. The movie was an immediate hit and spawned a handful of sequels and even several theme park attractions at Walt Disney World.

McCall’s legacy is perhaps most enduringly marked by her work with her husband, actor and comedian Charlie Brill, as part of the comedy duo “McCall and Brill.” The pair became television staples, gracing numerous variety shows, including a memorable appearance on “The Ed Sullivan Show” during The Beatles’ American debut in 1964 — a moment that has since become television history.

Cartoon Network is offline. Warner Bros. Discovery has apparently pulled the plug on the official website for Cartoon Network shortly after squashing the cartoon-centric streaming service Boomerang.
Per THR, the network's official website (CartoonNetwork.com) now redirects visitors directly to the sign-up page for the streaming service Max, which hosts Cartoon Network content for paid subscribers. The Jetsons theme song unexpectedly hit the Billboard charts in 1986 thanks to a resurgence of interest in the 1980s. Composer Hoyt Curtin's catchy tunes for The Jetsons and other Hanna-Barbera shows remain iconic in popular culture. Despite only running for three seasons, The Jetsons' optimistic take on the future has had a lasting impact and influence.
The Jetsons theme song was a catchy earworm of an intro, and it even managed to top the Billboard charts. George, Jane, Elroy, and Judy Jetson are as synonymous with science fiction as Luke Skywalker thanks to their Hanna-Barbera cartoon TV show that premiered in 1962. A Space Age answer to The Flintstones, the original run of The Jetsons only lasted for a year before it was canceled. It was then rebooted from 1985-1987, and as recently as 2017, there were rumors of a live-action The Jetsons, though not much more has been said since the announcement.

Warner Bros. Discovery is shuttering its Boomerang streaming service. The Boomerang cable channel will live on.
Boomerang operations will cease on September 30; some of its programming will be integrated into Max, Wbd’s core streaming service. (There is already a decent amount of crossover to begin with.) And that’s exactly where Warner Bros. Discovery will send those Boomerang subscribers. Boomerang members will see their subscription automatically moved to Max’s ad-free tier with no change to their monthly price for a minimum of six months, a person with knowledge of the situation told IndieWire.
Until then, it’s a sweet deal: Boomerang cost $5.99 per month, Max’s ad-free plan is $16.99. Since everything (and we do mean everything) at Wbd is a financial decision, you better believe that $11/month won’t be left on the table for any longer than it feels it has to.
